Exercise 2Nowadays, most people do their work with the help of technology, few people barely had to lift a finger to cook a meal, wash clothes, talk to friends and loved ones far away and so much more.Although technology plays role in our life, it also brings cons and pros to our life.

1. Technology has made household chores a breeze today- Example: vacuum cleaner – not to sweep floor-automatically be vacuumed- Most of women have their successful career-don’t have enough time and stamina

do household chores- with technology-their burden become lighter- Benefits : cleaner, more tidy, save time- Disadvantages : don’t have enough exercise then become obesity

2. Many of the inventions we have today destroy the environment.

- Example : Lynas- Australian rare earths mining company, using rare earth elements for manufacturing modern technology which will destroy our environment such as radiation exposure because of the radioactive waste.

- Also, the vehicle produce the gas (carbon monoxide which bring the greenhouse effects)

- Since the technology makes changes in short period, surely the people will insane the new technology or want to ‘show off’, so they’ll buy the new, and the old will be ‘abandoned’ ,and this make a huge of dump in world(land pollution).

3. Modern inventions have made human beings lazy and self-centred（以自我为中心）.- Example : (Lazy) Friend chat with friends by SMS ; do the online-shopping-didn’t

want to market or shopping centre. (Self-centred )A Korean couple crazy for playing games till neglect their baby. Because of them the baby died because of starving; An American teenagers shot the audience in cinema because he couldn’t buy the ticket.

- the obesity level in many countries increase because they less do exercise and they too depend on the advancement of modern technology. Example: The children become potato coach-didn’t eat healthy and spend a tremendous amount of time in front of the TV or playing video games or computer online games.

- Because of social networking(Facebook, MSN, Skype ), they didn’t write letter anymore. Also, some of the people too addicted to social networking rather than communicate with the outside world. This will make the people less confident in doing their job or interview. The relationship between the people will become worst and the value of toleration cannot be practiced or the people will never put her/his into other peoples’ shoes.

4. Technology makes us indulge(沉溺) in unhealthy habits.

- Unhealthy habits: Lacking Accountability, more lazy, eat not regularly, lack of exercise

- Lacking Accountability: We may meet some liars in net, if we couldn’t judge correctly, we may be cheated by the huge amount of savings.

- More lazy: too depend on technology, less thinking to solve the problem or don’t know how to do some certain work.

- Eat not regularly: addicted to Internet or online games till neglect the regular time for us enjoy the meal. This may cause somebody in illness such as gastric or stomach cancer

- Lack of exercise: too addicted to Internet till don’t have enough time for resting or sleeping. Because of that, they don’t wake up early for exercise or jogging to breathe fresh air.

5. We have a much better life than our grandparents.- In our grandparents’ life, they had to all the works by their barely hand. If they

couldn’t do the work, they thought and asked for others’ help, these practiced them to be more thinking and communicate to others. Although their life more difficult than us, their knowledge or experience will be plentiful and this becomes powerful resource in finding job.

- In the other hand, we’re having a better life than them because we have the modern technology-helps us save the natural resources, time, money, our work become more professional and easier and more safety. These make us more competitive to other people or business operation.

Exercise 31. Teenagers have become obsessed with the use of the Internet,

spending hours on the computer- Problem occur: can’t manage their time probably/too addicted to internet/can’t

control themselves from the technological advances made/parents busy for their work/too stubborn , don’t want to listen the advices

- Solution: parents teach child to manage their time/parents as a role modal/ teachers should tell students about the pros and cons when using the internet

2. Many people are leading a more sedentary(久坐) life today because of the technological advances made.- Problem occur: too addicted/less confident to communicate to the outside

world/lazy to move- Solution: parents invite children to park for exercising/school organize sport

activities during school time/teachers tell student about the benefits of exercising.

3. The use of too many electrical gadgets has led to an increase in the demand for more natural resources.- Problem occur: producer tend to make more profit in their business

operations/people too insane to the technology/greedy to have more/don’t manage well in manufacturing these electrical gadgets/people wish to less work in their life

- Solution: Association built for managing or control the amount of natural resources to be used for manufacturing more electrical gadgets/people should think twice before buying
