As I write this, it is the middle of May and the weather is just starting to warm up.Hopefully by the time we all read this, temperatures will be above freezing at night, tomatoes will be growing, and gardening will be in full swing!

Thats what I love about June: warmer weather, thunderstorms, patient excitement

about gardens, apple blossoms gone and apples forming on the limb. June showsforth increased hope in new life.

Just today, as Dick Maxson was cleaning the community garden at church, he cameto report something that I needed to see. When I got to the place he had men-tioned, he bent over and lifted up grass and tufts of fine, white rabbit fur. Three baby rabbits, about the size of a sausage link nuzzled around. I heard one squeal as we tried to get a closer look.

Three little rabbits barely had enough fur on them to cover their pink bodies, but their long earsunmistakably gave them away! While mother, no doubt ate and nourished herself, the three littleones gathered closely together for warmth. (See picture on page 6)

Have you ever found an animal nest in the wild? What does it do for you when you find such atreasure? Does it give you pause to stay more attentive?

I know I was overwhelmed at the beauty of the clutch of bunniesso small and so vulnerable. What if Dick had not discovered them? Would another animal have come along and tried to devourthem?

Such sacred moments remind me of the importance of life itself. How vulnerable each one of us isin this world! Each of us enters with barely enough intelligence to cuddle, to search for a safe spot.We learn by steps how to find our way around a wonderful, awe-inspiring world. Learning can alsohurt as we reach too far from time to time; by Gods grace we learn quickly where to find what we

    need in order to grow.

In our congregation, many of us now have passed the time of rearing young ones. We have passedon the job to our children. Many of us revel in a second chance to be a child! With grandchildren

and great-grandchildren, we learn again about the vagaries of life, the vulnerability, and its sacred-ness.

As Dick covered up those rabbits, I couldnt help thinking, I hope they are safe. I know wheretheir hiding place is; you can imagine that I will check on them from time to time for their safety. Imay even get the odd chance to see them hopping off to make their own nests one day!

Cherish those sacred moments when God gives you life. Enjoy what nature is birthing around us!Enjoy what God has given with grace for us to look after!

    Peace,

    Pr. Tim
