The Lord is risen! As Christ's disciples, we are called to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection.

Our parish's many ministries are examples of how many of you answer that call. Our ministries require not only gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help. Dear Friends,May the Lord give you peace!

(Continued in next column)

NEW RCIA INQUIRY SESSION

We are beginning a new Inquiry Period of RCIA here at St. Mary’s. This is the usual starting point

for adults thinking about entering the Catholic Church [those who were never baptized or for those Catholics who were never Confirmed or received First Eucharist. This inquiry period provides a forum to ask some fundamental questions about faith and life: Who is God? What am I? What is life about? Other questions that are “just curious” questions you’ve always wanted to ask.

This inquiry period is being opened to all Catholics who would like to know more about their faith [probably many who regularly come to church].

Our schedule will be very simple: a monthly meeting on Saturday after the 5:00 PM mass [we will gather 5 times - May 3, June 7, July 12, August 2 and September 6]. in the Prayer Room from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Meetings will be led by Fr. Richard Husted, OFM, Heather Till and Keith Orotosky.

We welcome you to explore your faith and grow in your faith and commitment to Christ. Our goal is to allow each person to journey at their own pace; additional readings and other resource material will be available but not required.

If you are interested, please call the Parish Office [973.835.0374] and leave your name and number. We hope to hear from you.

Fr. Frank can be reached at [email protected]

The Easter Season continues, so Happy Easter! It was so good to see so many of you at all our Triduum celebrations and Easter Sunday celebrations! Once again, I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the celebrations so beautiful. I’m grateful to our music ministry under the direction of Craig and Dorothy Limey, all the lectors, the ushers and all the Eucharistic Ministers. Thanks so much to the women of Women’s Cornerstone for the very prayerful Women of Jerusalem reflection on Good Friday afternoon and to the Youth Ministry for their prayerful rendition of the Stations of the Cross. I’m also grateful to all those who decorated the church for Easter. Thanks to our decorating team of Gerri Ralph and all the volunteers. Thanks, too, to the friars Richard, Larry and Gonzalo for all their hard work and dedication.

In a special way I’d like to thank Steve and Bev Kass who worked so well with our candidates in the RCIA program. I’m also grateful to Milagros Anto who worked with our Latino RCIA. They both worked with a wonderful team preparing our candidates for full incorporation into the Catholic Church and for our candidates who received Confirmation. Thank you for your work and ministry!Thursday, May 1, is National Day of Prayer. On that day Americans are asked to participate in Meet at City Hall. Please invite your friends and your family to join others in meeting at the Municipal Building, 25 Lenox Ave., Pompton Lakes from 12:20 to 12:40 PM to spend 20 minutes in prayer for our country. The theme for this year, the 63rd Annual Observance, is “One Voice United in Prayer.”

This weekend begins our First Communion celebrations! Congratulations to everyone who will be receiving First Communion and many thanks to Alma Banta and everyone who prepares our children for this beautiful sacrament. It is also the start of Confirmation season. Our first confirmation will be Friday, May 2. We will welcome Bishop da Cunha from the Archdiocese of Newark. The second confirmation, also with Bishop da Cunha, is Friday, May 16. Many thanks to Pat Newton and everyone who works in our Confirmation program all year long!

Today our gospel story is the famous story of Doubting Thomas. I think poor Thomas gets a raw deal. I don’t blame him for doubting. It had to be hard for him to come into the room and hear his friends tell this incredible story, given all that they had recently been through. He needed to have some proof. Well, I think we are all a bit like Thomas—maybe more than we would like to admit. We’d all like to have some proof of the resurrection. I think it’s safe to say we won’t get the opportunity to put our fingers in the wounds of Jesus, but we do have the opportunity to see and touch the wounds of the world. When you and I see and touch the wounds of the world and do all we can to heal them with love and reconciliation, with justice and peace, then we will see all the proof we need of the resurrection. When we tend to the wounds of the world, we are

world and make the resurrection real in our lives and the lives of those around us, then sisters and brothers, we have all the proof we need!

As we continue the great celebration of Easter for the next seven weeks all of you will be in our prayers! Thanks for a great week!

Forms are available at the Parish Office if you wish to do-nate a paver stone in memory of a loved one or in honor of a

special occasion. All orders must be received by Thursday, May 15.

A recent survey showed that more that 50% of Christians in the USA and Europe, usually have ham on Easter. The families who come to us are pretty similar; and with generous donations from the Pompton Lakes Rotary and St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus we were able to buy enough hams at ShopRite in Oakland for all who wanted them.
