MASS INTENTIONS What is a covenant? An agreement, to put it simply. God said, “I agree to be your God and you agree to be my people.” But now Jesus had become this covenant. He was the most profound agreement of God and humanity possible. He was both halves of the covenant, God’s and humans’. Jesus, who is the covenant, will invite people down from trees where they scram-bled to see him. He will say “of course I do” in answer to “Lord if you want to you can cure me.” He will pity the soldiers ordered to kill him.

Maintenance Fund Envelope Now that our 5 Year Capital Campaign has come to an end, the offertory envelopes no

longer have one dedicated to that purpose. Instead, we have

one that will be known as the “Maintenance Fund” or “Blue envelope” to continue with our responsibility of taking care of the regular maintenance of a building like ours. Our reg-ular collection barely takes care of the expens-es of the running of our parish and we should really think about how maintenance, when neglected, can get us into more expensive consequences. The maintenance of our Church building it is not the responsibility of the Archdiocese and/or the Vatican we are the ones using the building for worship, we need staff to care for parish needs and priests to care for the pastoral needs of our community, so we must continue to take care of our com-munal responsibilities.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2015 January 18-25

Ecumenical Prayer Service on January 25, at 4 p.m. York minster Park Baptist Church 1585 Yonge Street. Come and join us in an ecumeni-cal prayer service with His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Anglican Archbishop Colin Johnson, Evangelical Lutheran Bishop Michael Pryse, Slovak Catholic Bishop John Pazak, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church Rev. Dr. Harris Athanasiadis and other city-wide reli-gious leaders. Homilist: The Rev. Dr. Paul Scott Wilson (Professor of Homiletics, Emmanuel College and ordained Minister of the United Church of Canada). Parking is available. Re-freshments to follow in the church hall. For fur-ther information, please contact the Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Affairs at 416-934-3400, ext. 344 or ext. 527 or email [email protected].

Existing Extraordinary Ministers of Communion Meeting For the English Masses only

(not Italian, not Spanish) All Extraordinary Ministers of Communion

are required to attend a meeting on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 7:00pm in the Holy Family Room to discuss the screening pro-cess as it relates to description of duties and other concerns raised by individuals in order to better serve our Community. All existing ministers are expected to attend this meet-ing. Please call if you are not able to attend.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees

“Church without frontiers, Mother to all” is the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the 101st World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Janu-ary 18, 2015. Dear migrants and refugees! You have a special place in the heart of the Church, and you help her to enlarge her heart and to manifest her motherhood towards the entire human family. Do not lose your faith and hope! Let us think of the Holy Family during the flight in Egypt: Just as the maternal heart of the Blessed Virgin and the kind heart of Saint Jo-seph kept alive the confidence that God would never abandon them, so in you may the same hope in the Lord never be wanting. Everyone is welcome to the Archdiocese of Toronto's cele-bration on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in To-ronto.

Healing Mass This coming Friday, January 16, at 7:00pm we are, once again, having our Healing mass in which we administer the Sacrament of the Sick. This is a good opportunity to bring the elderly and the sick to receive this important Sacrament of Healing. Following the mass we have the devotions to St. Expedito, patron saint of the Urgent cases. Everyone is wel-come. Confessions will be heard at 6:30pm.

Questions for Reflection:

“For my thoughts are not your thought, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.” What should do to align our ways to God’s ways?

What is the one thing you must do to attend the sumptuous banquet provided by the Fa-ther?

January 11, 2015

World Day of Prayer for Con-secrated Life Celebration

On Monday, February 2, 2015, the Church celebrates the World Day of Prayer for Con-secrated Life. In the Archdiocese of Toronto we are blessed to have living and serving among us more than 1,000 religious men and women of over 100 different religious con-gregations. This World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life is a wonderful opportunity for us to thank God for the gifts of these reli-gious sisters, brothers and priests and to pray for God’s blessing upon them in their efforts to faithfully live the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. On Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Basilica, located at 83 Power Street, Toronto. There will be a special Mass presided by His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins, in celebration of the vocation and witness of these special men and women religious who are such an important part of the life and ministry of the Church in our archdiocese. All are welcome to attend.

Pray for Vocations

Jesus’ identity is revealed as “The Son of God” through His baptism in the Jordan. Our identity as “children of God” is re-

vealed through our baptism. Our lives then, must constant-ly witness Jesus as Lord. If you think that God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Chris Lemieux, Vo-

cation Director, Archdiocese of Toron-to 416-968-0997 or e-mail. [email protected]

Altar Servers At St. Jude’s Children who have made their first communion are welcome to join the Al-tar Servers ministry. All you need to do is sign up in the office and begin to serve right away. Altar servers are trained as they serve. We ask that your child arrives 20 minutes before the mass he or she wishes to serve. The first few masses they only observe and gradually they are trained by other experienced Altar Servers.

2015 Offertory Envelopes

My Offering, Sacrifice & Support We thank everyone for taking the time to pick up your envelopes. Note that you can still pick them up at the office during office hours. Please be patient if you do so before or after weekend masses. We will make the envelopes available for the next few week-ends.

Upcoming Work at St Jude’s We have a number of projects up-coming that we need assistance with – either by the donation of time, materials or both. Have a look at the list below and let the office know how you can help – we can’t

do it without YOU!

Refinishing the floors of the church: Removal and re-install of pews; Removal of carpet and vinyl tile; Grinding of floor Sealing floor with epoxy.

Painting: We have many areas of the build-ing - inside and out - that are in need of painting. In some cases the walls are going

to need to be washed or treated first due to past water issues. -we need donations of paint and cleaning materials such as the TSP cleaner, drop sheets and plastic for covering items, paint-er’s tape, rolls, brushes, and paint trays

Constructing – Carpentry and Drywall: We have some projects involving putting up metal studs, drywall, tape, mud and sanding.

Caulking work: Many of our windows and door frames need the caulking replaced.

Pipe Wrap: We have heating and water pipes that still need to be insulated.

Tile work: We have areas where both vinyl and ceramic tile needs to be repaired or re-

placed.

Masonry: Some of our brickwork need tuck pointing, some exterior walls need attention. We’ll need bricks, mortar and someone who is a brick layer for this work

Electrical: *We have lights to put in, others to move around, and wiring needing to be done for various projects.

Security & Life Safety: As you’ve seen from the signs on the doors, we’ve had to imple-ment some controls around our accessibility. It has always been in the plans to improve our security. We’re also going to be replac-ing our fire alarm system.
