and amid cries of pain and suffering, you weep with us,gathering us as one, into communion with each other.

Quake our hearts so we may be bearers of mercy and hope in Latiboliere.

We pray especially for our sister church to remain strong in the face of so much devastation.

In thousands of ways each day, you remind us of your presence -in the joy of helping, in mutual prayers, in the constancy of faith among the suffering,

in the ways people who have less than little, share with each other.

And our hearts joy at the goodness to be found even in places of decay and desolation. In our prayers and in our own efforts to help our sisters and brothers,

may we find the hope you have for us,to live as people who give,

to live as people who proclaim the reality of the redeeming love of Jesus Christ.

Assist St Mary Catholic Faith Community in our work to bring about this love.May your Holy Spirit renew in us a zeal for bringing about peace and justice,

and for being people of hope and service.

Our Mother of Perpetual Help, patroness of Haiti, pray for us!

September 26, 2021 • Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

During the month of October, we will pray the Rosary during Eucharistic Adoration on Mondays at 6:30 pm,in addition to after 8:15 am Mass on Fridays.

Praised be Jesus Christ!

In mid-August a devastating earthquake struck Haiti causing massive destruction and loss of life. If the earthquake was not enough, Tropical Storm Grace also drenched them with rain and wind. St. Mary Parish has had a 20-plus-year relationship with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Latiboliere, Haiti. This relationship has provided critical resources and nourish-ment to countless people. Friendships have been formedbetween the missionaries of our parish and the good peopleof Haiti that have been a tremendous source of grace.

Sadly, so much of what was built (the clinic, parish school, community center and rectory) cannot be repaired. It is a tremendous sense of loss to see so much hard work destroyed in an instant. This is when we remember the enduring graces of relationship, and recall that the bonds that have been formed with the people can never be broken. It is those very bonds that will help the rebuilding and the sustain the people in time of need.

This weekend is our annual mission appeal. It was supposed to be the 20-year anniversary celebration, already a year late due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, those celebrations will be put on hold once again. While the appeal this year is a bit more somber, cognizant of the great need in Haiti, we still rejoice in the goodness of God and our relationship. Tremendous supporthas been given both through prayer and financial aid. To see your generosity is truly astounding and I know the people of Haiti feel very loved.

To assist in these efforts, St. Dominic Parish, where I was the Associate Pastor prior to coming here, took up a second collection at all Masses on the weekend of September 18 - 19 to raise money for our sister parish. I am so very grateful toFr. Dennis Saran, the pastor, and the entire parish community for the love they have shown to us and to the people of Haiti. Also, Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council #4648 of Brookfield is conducting a pancake breakfast this weekend to raise funds for our sister parish as well. It is always amazing the good that comes from the People of God coming together to support one another.

I write this very grateful for thegenerosity you have already shown,

and ask you to continue giving asyou are able, especially your prayer.

The need in Haiti is still great, andas a family we will continue to rise

to any occasion to support ourbrothers and sisters. We givethanks and praise to God this

weekend for the 22-year relation-ship with Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Parish in Latiboliere and pray fortheir continued recovery.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help… pray for us!

If you, or someone you know, suffers with chronic illness, a mental health issue, or if you are anticipating surgery, please come and experience the healing touch of God in your life.

Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbytersof the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil

in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will savethe sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. (James 5:14-15)

E!FtitGH$Io9 78JYES Indulge me. ! Pam Lownik | Mission Appeal Weekend is a time to remember

and celebrate the roots of our Haiti sister parish relationship. In 1999 Beth Lownik, a St. Mary 8th-grade student, learned about the plight of Haitian people from her grandparents on an Easter break vacation. So moved from the stories they shared, she came home with a fire to tell their story. A very influentialteacher at our parish, Mrs. Kosmider, said YES to her request to change the topic of her final project (the famous 8th-grade speech). So, a heartfelt speech was given, after which a wonderful teacher suggestedthat Beth DO something with her passion. So, this 8th Grader asked St. Mary Catholic Faith Community to consider “twinning” with a sister parish in Haiti. We said YES!

Fast forward to Mission Appeal Weekend 2021 here at St. Mary and there are hundreds of stories to share, thousands of prayers offered, hundreds of visits to Haiti, a river of tears shed, faith strengthened, and God’s love present.

This story of hope begins with a parish that said YES to a young person with a dream. Beth went on to spend three years in Latiboliere, learned to speak the language, found her passion for helping people, which led her to become a doctor. I went on to see the world wider, had a transformative encounter with God on the roof of a beautiful rectory in Latiboliere, and discovered a call to ministry here at St Mary. Our parish saying YESchanged my life and the lives of many, both here and in Haiti. I love the people of St. Mary and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Latiboliere. Your YES to this almost 22-year relationship gave me everything. Mission Appeal Weekend is all about gratitude. I add a very deep personal thank you for your YES to be a part of our Haiti mission. May this faith community always say YES to the dreams God instills in us. Following the passion God puts in our hearts makes us strong and changes lives. God bless you.

A Note from the D.A.S.…After a successful Parish Picnic and the start of School, August 2021 shows our fiscal year (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022)is off to a good start. We may revisit the topic of a Parish Festival replacement fundraiser in Spring, as the Haiti effortand Royal Run in September, the Circle of Love in October, and the St. Vincent de Paul envelope in November will carry us through the Christmas season with little room for an additional fundraiser in the last quarter of the 2021 calendar year.

*Please note: As people return to Mass on Saturdays and Sundays, our Offertory is starting to recover!

 Dear Friends

Lately, a number of our parishioners have received fraudulent “Spoof” emails that were designed to look like they came from me. Unfortunately, anyone with access to the internet can create an email address and put my name on it so it looks like it’s coming from me. Many of these fake emails speak about how I need people’s urgent help, how I can’t be reached to confirm the request, and money needs to be sent somewhere other than the Parish Office in a hurry.

I will NEVER make an individual email solicitation looking to raise money in a hurry or asking for your banking information. Any efforts to seek your support will be done respectfully, openly, and communicated publicly through the bulletin, the monthly letter, and the website, etc. Any funds you send to the Parish should always go through the ordinary offertory via the Parish Office and never urgently wire-transferred to a third party.

Sometimes these emails appear very “official”, but there are some things you can look for to determine if they are real or not. If you receive something that looks like it’s from me, check the email address it is coming from. If the address ends in anything other than “@stmaryhc.org”, then the email is a scam. Also, often, spelling and grammatical errors are contained in the subject line and/or in the body of the email. Finally, never open any links in such emails.

I appreciate your vigilance and your patience. Let us also pray for the conversion of those who perpetrate these scams and prey on the vulnerable. Holy Mary, Mother of God… pray for us!

- Sincerely yours in Christ -
