ACROCYANOSIS

Bluish tinge to the extremities due to inadequate peripheral circulation

Etym. Gr. acro- = extremity, end part cyan- = blue

ANEURYSMA

Widening of the arteries cused by the weakness of the walls of the vessel

Etym. Gr. eurys=broad, wide

ANGIOGRAPHIA

X-ray of a blood vessel with an injection of radipaque substance to the vessel

Etym. Gr. angio= vessel graphia= image making

VARIXVARICOSE VEIN

Dilated and twisted veins

ANGINA PECTORIS

Strangling pain

in the chest area

Etym. Lat. angere = to squeeze

HAEMANGIOMA

A tumour consisting of blood vessels

Etym. Gr. Haem- = bloodangi- = vessel-oma = tumour

HAEMATOMA

Accumulation of blood within the tissues

Etym. Gr. Haemat- = blood-oma = tumour

ATHEROSCLEROSISARTERIOSCLEROSIS

Fatty substance deposit in and between the layers of lining of the arteries

Hardening of the wall of the arteries

Etym. Gr. athera = porridge sclerosis = hardening

ECCHYMOSIS

Outpouring of blood under the skin

Etym. Gr. ekkheein- = to pour out

OEDEMA

Swelling because of accumulation of the fluid between the tissues

Etym. Gr. oideein = to swell

ISCHAEMIA

Decrease in the blood supply of a part or organ

Etym. Gr. iskhein = to restrainaemia- = condition of blood

CLAUDICATION

Lamenes or limpimng due to decrease in the blood supply to the legs

Etym. Lat. claudus = lame

REGURGITATIO

Backflow of blood at the valves

Etym. Lat. gurges = whirlpool

COR PULMONALE

Heart disease caused by disorder of pulmonary circulation

CARDIOMEGALIACOR BOVINUM

Enlargement of heart
