Analysis of shots chosen

•For the confrontation scene we want to create a real impression of rivalry between the two characters, while at the same time emphasizing the contrast in their status. In this way the shots we have chosen to use here create a dramatic and effective demonstration of the relationship between the two, while the high and low angles represent each man’s class and status. However, because of, primarily, the actor’s expressions and body language (which will both be proud, fierce and dramatic), and secondly because of the dramatic shots themselves which emphasize both character’s power, there is no evidence of a power imbalance.

•We felt that the makeup scene was important as an indication of the woman’s class and glamour; her appearance will be very much that of an upper-class Victorian woman. Furthermore, it acts as a preface to the next few scenes, establishing that she is getting ready for a party/dance.

• The party scene is filmed as a long-shot in order to establish setting, so as not to confuse the audience, and also as a suggestion of the kind of life the woman has (dances, parties etc.)

• We felt that it was very important to use close-ups for the flirting and eye-contact between the woman and the rich, and latterly the poor man, so as to indicate that there will be some kind of relationship between the three in the film.

•The dancing scene may prove difficult, but we feel it would be extremely effective if done correctly, and takes inspiration from other teaser trailers for existing period dramas (Need to research a few to use as examples). The fact that the woman ends up dancing with the poor man, and literally “falls into his arms”, gives the scene a very traditional romantic air, as well as suggesting a romantic relationship between the two.
