Convocation of the University was held on February 18, 2012 in a graceful manner. Barrister Syed Masood Kausar, Governor/ Chancellor, of the University was the Chief Guest.

Medals and degrees were awarded to about 1000 students of various disciplines including Agriculture, Biotech. & Genetic Engg; DVM, Management, Business Administ., CS, IT at Bachelor, Master, M. Phil and Ph. D level. The University has so far produced 8255 BS, 6165 MS and 108 Ph. D graduates since 1981.

The Honorable Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amir Haider Khan Hoti inaugurated AU - AMK Campus at Mardan on March 03, 2012. He announced Rs.50 million Grant-in-Aid, Rs.45.70 million as Consultancy cost and Reflection of scheme for Rs.100 million for permanent establishment of AMKCM in up-coming ADP.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Asstt. Professor in Agric. Chemistry won a research grant worth Rs.7.5 million for his project titled "Exploring new bioactive natural products from the fungal sources of Pakistan“ from HEC.

As member of the Himalayan Universities Consortium, the Vice Chancellor AUP, Prof. Dr. Khan Bahadar Marwat alongwith Prof. Dr. Farhatullah participated in regional workshop on “Strengthening research capacity of the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) Universities and Research Institutions for Promoting Inclusive and Innovative Development in the HKH Region” organized by ICIMOD at Kathmandu, Nepal during January 23-24, 2012.

The Department of Agronomy, AUP and Pakistan Society of Agronomy organized a one day Seminar on “Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants adopted for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” on February 06, 2012 at the University. Faculty, graduates and progressive farmers attended the seminar.

Dr. Shazma Anwar, Lecturer, Department of Agronomy, AUP being the first lady in the history of the Province who successfully completed her Ph.D degree in Agronomy. Her thesis was evaluated by Prof. Dr. Caroline Bowsher, University of Manchester, UK and Prof. Dr. Giorgio Binelli, University of Insubria, Italy.

The Department of Poultry Science, AUP in collaboration with SRSP arranged three days trainings on “Backyard Chicken Production” in Districts Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera for relevant females during March 07-15, 2012. 75 participants attended the training.

Soil Science Society of Pakistan organized 14th Soil Science Congress during March 12-14, 2012 at Lahore under the theme “Soil Science: Service to Mankind and Environment”. Scientists from various national and international organizations participated. VC AUP Prof. Dr. Khan Bahadar Marwat was the chief guest.

The third one-day workshop on “Young Researchers Skill Development” sponsored by Pakistan Science Foundation was organized at AUP. Prof. Dr. M. Subhan Qureshi, Dean, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences was the chief guest.

A delegation of students from AUP led by Prof. Dr. Subhan Qureshi, Dean, AHVS participated in the Pakistan-Australia Students Forum at the University of Vet. & Animal Sciences, Lahore. The delegation met Prof. Peter Wynn of Charles Sturt University, Australia and discussed various issues of bilateral interest.

AUP and Relief International, Pakistan signed MoU for working on measuring themorbidity, mortality and economic burden of Zoonotic diseases in humans and animals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Commissioner Mardan alongwith Senator, Azam Khan Hoti and relevant heads of concerned departments visited AU-AMK Campus, Mardan on February 07, 2012. Dr. Dawood Jan, PD briefed about the progress of the Campus.

o Two days online training on “Mastering Data Analysis Tools and Techniques using SPSS and AMOS” was arranged by the Deptt. of Agric. Economics, AUP during February 24-25, 2012. About 40 faculty and students attended the training.

o Dr. Zahir Shah, Lecturer of Surgery in Animal Health, AUP successfully performed a complicated Femur Fracture Surgery of a dog at Veterinary Teaching Hospital using intramedullary pinning in two hours. Prognosis was excellent and the dog was able to walk after 10 days.

Dr. Ihsan Mabood Qazi, Assistant Professor in Food Science & Technology successfully completed his Ph.D from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. His research title was “Modification of Rice noodle texture using blends of starches and hydrocolloids”.

Dr. Ikramullah Khan, Asstt. Prof. in Weed Science successfully completed his Ph. D from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Mr. Bilal, Asstt. Director QEC attended workshop on “Building Quality in Higher Education” during March 28-29, 2012 at Lahore.

Dr. Inayatullah Jan, Assistant Professor, Institute of Development Studies, AUP won a project titled “Barriers to adopting improved cooking technology in rural Northwest Pakistan”. The project will be funded by South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE), Nepal. The total budget of the project is 20,180 USD and commences from March 2012 for a period of two years.

A contract agreement worth Rs.45.696 million was signed between AUP and Associated Consulting Engineers (Pvt) Ltd. Lahore on March 28, 2012 for Consultancy services for establishing Permanent AU-AMK Campus at Mardan.

Dr. Zafarullah Marwat, Chairman, Deptt. of Agric. Extension Education & Communic. AUP participated in the International Conference on Agriculture held during February 13-17, 2012 in Croatia and presented paper on “Knowledge gap and training needs of Pakistan’s Agricultural Extension Agents in Agric. Biotechnology”.

Mr. Rahamdad Khan, Ph.D scholar, Deptt. of Weed Science, AUP got Graduate Student Award and travel grant from International Weed Science Society of America for attending 6th International Weed Science Congress to be held in Hangzhou, China in June 2012.

A grand book fair was organized at AUP in collaboration with Study Aid Foundation for Excellence (SAFE). About 50 stalls were decorated with variety of books, computers and related accessories on special discount rates for the students. Prof. Dr. Zahid Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Rural Social Sciences was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr. Hamayun Khan, Assistant Professor in Animal Health successfully completed his Ph.D degree from Yamaguchi University, Japan.
