Pre-installation Task Adding ALIAS and SITE of Enterprise Vault Server in DNS Creating an Administrator Account and adding it to Administrators Group in Active Directory
Login to the Enterprise Vault Server with account and add this account to Local Administrators Group

Purpose This document is to guide the Pre-installation, Installation and Configuration of Symantec Enterprise Vault 2007 for archiving Mailboxes of Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server/ Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server with the Best Practices followed.

Adding ALIAS & SITE
Add ALIAS CNAME in the DNS Management Console Alias CNAME
Add Site Name () in DNS Management Console Site Name

Ping result to verify the DNS entries that should be replicated in Network

o Adding Account in Local Admin group Local Admin Rights for Service Account on INP1EV01

Adding account in SQL
SQL configuration
New Login for dbcreator ()

Right Click the User () and set Login Name for Windows Authentication in General tab.
In Server Roles check mark on the dbcreator and Click OK.

Installing Deployment Scanner Double click on setup: DeploymentScanner-en-msi Click Next to continue
Accept the agreement, click Next to continue

Click Install to continue
Click on Launch Deployment Scanner and Click Finish

Welcome Window of Deployment Scanner, Click Next
Add SQL Server Name in Microsoft SQL Server tab and Click Next

Click Next to continue
Check the Warning and Errors and Click Finish

Customizing Registry Edit Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa Create a Dword DisableLoopbackCheck and Set Value data 1.

Adding Windows Components
Go to Start – Settings – Control Panel – Add Remove Programs - Add Remove Windows Components In Windows Components highlight the row for (but do not check) Application Server, and Click Details In Application Server click the checkbox to select ASP.NET. Select Internet Information Services (IIS), and click Details.... In Internet Information Services (IIS), scroll down to the bottom and select World Wide Web Service and click Details.... In World Wide Web Service, click the checkbox to select Active Server Pages, click OK. In Internet Information Services (IIS), click OK.

In Application Server, highlight the row for (do not check) Message Queuing, click Details.... In Message Queuing, check the box for Common.

If the Active Directory Integration option has been checked, uncheck it. Active Directory Integration needs to always be removed, even when installing on a Domain Controller. The only option needed is Common. Click OK. In Application Server, click OK. In Windows Components, click Next. The new Windows components will begin to install. When it finishes, click Finish

Installation of Enterprise Vault 2007 Double Click on the setup.exe to install Enterprise Vault 2007 Server, Click Next.
Click Yes to accept the Software License Agreement

Give the path of the Destination Folder where Enterprise Vault should be install. Click Next to install Enterprise Vault
Select the features to be installed, Click Next

Browse to insert Enterprise Vault License
Click Next

Select the Program Folder, Click Next
The following Services will be Stopped and Start, Click Next to continue

Installation Complete, Click Finish

Configuration of Enterprise Vault 2007 Server Click Start – Programs – Enterprise Vault – Enterprise Vault Configuration
Click Next to Create a New Vault Directory

Select Language Click Next
Browse for the Account to be used for Services, Enter and confirm Password Click Next

Click OK as account has following rights
Enter the SQL Server Name, Click Next

Select the Destination to Store the Vault Directory Database and Transaction log Click Next
Enter the SQL Server Name to be use for Operations Manager Monitoring Database, Click Next

Select the Destination for Vault Monitoring Database location and Transaction log, Click Next
Enter the Name and Description and Vault Site Alias given in DNS Management Console

Click Next to update the Vault Directory information
Services will be Added to this Computer, Click Next

Click on Properties of Enterprise Vault Indexing Service
Add the Folders done for the Indexes and verify Status is Open

Verify the Storage Location of Indexes and Click Next
Click Next for Continuing the Configuration

Services will be Started, Click Next
Services Started Successfully, Click Finish

Adding Vault Store Right Click on Vault Stores, Click New Vault Store
Click Next

Select the Storage Service to be used
Enter the Vault Store Name and Description of Vault Store

Enter the SQL server location, Click Next
Enter the Destination for the Database and Transaction logs to be stored, Click Next

Remove Safety Copies as required; here it is Immediately after archive Click Next
Verify the Configuration and Click Next

Database Created Successfully, Click Next
Click Next to create Vault Store Partition

Click Next to create New Vault Store Partition
Enter the Storage Type, here it is NTFS volume Click Next

Enter the path where Vault Store Partition is to be Created Click Next
Check the box for Share Archived Items for Single Instance and Security Click Next

Select None for file collection software to use Click Next
Verify the Configuration Click Finish

Adding Microsoft Exchange Server Adding Microsoft Exchange Server in Enterprise Vault Server 2007
Right Click on Exchange Click New Domain

Enter the Domain Name Click OK
Right Click on Domain Click on New Exchange Server

Click Next to continue
Check mark the Exchange Task that should be created for the Exchange Server and Select the Enterprise Vault Server Click Next

Select the Mailbox to be used for the Exchange Server Click Next
Here it is Exgadmin Click OK

Click Close

Adding Journaling Mailbox Right Click on Journal Mailbox Click New Journal Mailbox

Click Next to Continue
Select the Journal Mailbox to be Archived and select the Task to associate Click box to initially Enable archiving this Mailbox

Click the Mailbox Click OK
Click Next to Continue

Select the Policy and the Retention Category Click Next
Click the location to be used to store Journaling Mailbox

Select the Vault Partition Click Next
Verify and Click Finish

Adding Mailbox Policy
Creating Policy for the Exchange Mailbox, go to Policies – Mailbox – Right Click – Click New - Policy
Give the Policy Name and Description, click OK

Configuring Mailbox Policy Right Click on the Policy and click on Properties Change the Indexing Level to Brief, Medium, Full as required (3%, 8%, 12% usage respectively)
On the Archiving Rules, enter the values so as to archive the mail on the age base archiving, size base archiving, quota base or the message with attachments only.

Check Mark on the box to enable users for Archiving Actions, if not Overall lock to use server settings for the users forcefully.
Use Shortcut Content to display the Mail after archiving.

Use Shortcut Deletion tab by entering the age at which to delete shortcut of the mail
Policy assigned to the users listed in the tab of Targets

Use Advanced tab for General Archiving, Offline Vault, Outlook and OWA to customize parameters as per the environment

Adding Provisioning Group PROVISIONING GROUP Add Provisioning group to add Windows Group, Windows Users, Distribution List, Ldap Users, Whole Exchange Organization etc to assign a specific policy for Mailbox Policy, PST Migration Policy, Retention Category and Automatically enable mailboxes (leave this checkbox unchecked). Also to assign specific Vault Store and Storage Service for Provisioning Group. To Create Provisioning Group, Go to Targets – Exchange – Domain Name – Exchange Servers – Provisioning Group – Right Click and New – Provisioning Group

Click Next
Enter the Name of Provisioning Group Click Next Click Add to Users in the Group Click Add

Select the Type Click OK
Select Names and say OK

Check user is added Click Next
Select Mailbox Policy to be used by the Provisioning Group Click Next

Give the Retention Category Click Next
Select the Vault Store for Group Click Next

Select the Indexing Service to be used by the group Click Next
Deselect the checkbox to automatic enable Mailbox Archiving Click Next

Check the Details Click Next
Group created Successfully. Click Close

Adding Mailbox Task Click Enterprise Vault Servers – ARCIVE..IN (INP1EV01) – Right Click on Task – New- Type of Task to add
Double Click on Task

Running Mailbox Task Click the Synchronization Tab in Synchronization for All Mailboxes
In Progress Window the Synchronization is queued

Click on Selected Mailboxes if Mailbox to be synchronizes individually or on selected mailboxes
Filter Mailbox Name

Select the Name of Mailbox and Click OK
Restore 1 Mailbox has been synchronized Click OK

Enabling Users for Mailbox Archiving Before Enabling the Mailboxes for Archiving, Synchronize the Mailboxes in the Task of the respective Exchange Server For Enabling Mailbox Manually Go to Tools and Click on Enable Mailboxes
Select the Exchange Server Name on which the Mailbox is located Click Next

List all users or filter by name Click Next
Select Mailbox which are newly added to provisioning group Click Next

Check the user is correct that was selected Click Next
Billing Account is by default the account which is currently enabling for Archiving Click Next

Select Immediate Archiving
Click Next
Check the information displayed Click Finish
