Worshipping God weekly, can be a real blessing for us and others when we approach it with a view of growing in our relationship with God and others, and we are open to being blessed, encouraged, equipped and even surprised by God. However, these blessings from God can be quickly diminished when we lose sight of the purpose of worship and instead approach worship as just a routine that must conform to what we like. In todays reading from Luke 13:10-17, this is what is happening with the Pharisees. They clearly understood the commandment about the Sabbath, but they had lost an understanding of its purpose and instead had elevated it to an idol of what they liked and as a weapon to burden others. Jesus, however, dispels this by reminding them and us that the Sabbath exists so God can serve us with His life of grace. Proverbs 25:6-7, Psalm 112, Hebrews 13:1–16, Luke 14:1–14

Everyday Faith There is some significant research that shows that those who are intentional about worshipping God with others every week, not only grow deeper in their relationship with God, but they also help others to do so. In today’s reading from Luke 13:10-17, this is what is happening with the Pharisees. Pastor Richard

Mongolian Mission in Sydney and Mongolia

Currently God has placed before us an interesting and challenging opportunity to be part of His mission to Mongolian families both in Sydney and in Mongolia. Currently, we hold a monthly Mongolian language Bible study in Canterbury, which has the purpose of both outreaching and equipping the Mongolian community in Sydney. Also, following Pastor Richard’s visit to Mongolia, we have closer links with the Good News Lutheran Church in Ulaanbaatar and its five congregations throughout Mongolia. Nomin, Ouynna and Murun, members of St Paul’s, are also members of the Good News Lutheran Church. Murun’s father, Pastor Sainna, is the pastor. How you can be involved: • Pray for the Mongolian people in Sydney that more would know

Jesus; • Pray for the Good News Lutheran Church and the mission and

ministry they carry out; • Financially support the ministry in Mongolia by making a donation.

To do this place your donation in an envelope marked Mongolia; • Consider being part of a congregational visit to Mongolia in 2021

(TBC). If you would like more information about Mongolia, please speak to Pastor Richard 0418 303 406.

LLL Interest Rate Change

Our congregation has received an ‘LLL Interest Rate Change’ notice advising that effective 1 August 2019, the interest rate on at-call Savings Accounts is 1.75%.

Can you help out… A great way of helping our young people to grow in their relationship with Jesus and each other is to help out with Children’s Ministry.

Currently we are looking to support our Ministry with teachers and helpers. Thank you to Veronica, Rhonda, Amanda, Jimmy and Mercedes for taking the teaching and to Brooke for being an assistant. If you can assist as either a teacher or teaching assistant that would be greatly appreciated. See Veronica, or phone 0416 246 872, for more information about what is involved.

Sydney Churches and the Bible Society of Australia invite you to a Bible Sunday Ecumenical Service

Sunday 29 September @ 2pm, Pitt St Uniting Church.

Serving @ St Paul’s and Redeemer

The church is the living body of Christ, so relies on people serving and helping out. If you are willing and able to serve in any way (see the back of the Bulletin for some of our rostered roles), please contact Pastor Richard or our secretary Ruth. A reminder for those serving that to assist our congregation, visitors and others assisting with worship that you aim to be at church at least 15 minutes before worship begins. It is also important that those serving either on Church Council, as a Pastoral Assistant or have contact with children and youth that they have a current Working with Children’s Check and have completed Safe Place training. For more information on meeting these requirements see Veronica Schwedes 0416 246 872.

Giving In response to His love, God encourages us to give proportionally, regularly and cheerfully. Our local ministry and mission is only possible due to the generosity of people just like you who worship with us. Your financial offerings can be made by placing money on the plate each Sunday and/or through electronic giving.
