The pressurised SF6 gas inside thepole retains all its dielectric propertiesafter breaking.Electrical endurance is limited bycontact wear. This wear depends onhow the equipment is used.We would like to draw your attentionto the dangers of cleaning byhigh---pressure spraying with solvent.
The main problems related to thisprocedure are as follows: H damage due to the pressure ofthe spray and the fact that it isimpossible to re---grease theinaccessible fastening points. H risk of over ---heating due tosolvent on the contact zones. H removal of the special protectivecoatings.
CAUTION
Never use solvents.
If the insulating elements aredusty you are advised to dustthem using a dry cloth.

Fig. 1 --- Life expectancy for a setof poles (number of C---O cycles)according to the furnace’s load current I.
This depends on H the furnace load current H the configuration of the circuitwhen the equipment is beingoperated
V opening electrode} in or outV closing of the bath
H the characteristics of the furnace transformer and in particular the off--- load inrush currents H the elements inserted in the furnace supply line, inductancethat saturates, inductance that doesn’t saturate, etc.
It can be estimated from the graph in figure 1 based on thefollowing operatingassumptions: H Protection against overloadcurrents greater than 2 In is providedby the upstream circuit breaker. H The number of times the switch opens for overload currents (ofbetween In and 2 In of the furnace) isless than 2% of the total number of operations.

H 98% of tripping is done onpurpose and when the device opens, the electrodes are out of the bath. It interrupts the no---load transformer magnetising current. H The furnace transformer’s no---load making current is less than 4 In.
It is measured as follows: in order to establish the device’s electrical endurance under real operatingconditions, arcing contact wear willbe checked every 5,000 operationsfor the first device that is commissioned. The curve thus obtained experimentally willestablish the number of operationswhich a set of poles can performand will be used as a basis for preventive maintenance as long asthe operating conditions remainthe same.

nearest Schneider group service centre.
symptoms faulty elements probable causes andremedies
Impossible to charge Electrical operating mechanism: motor
Voltage is too low at the motorterminals H correct the voltage H change the motor if necessary
End---of---charging contact H H check the condition of the contact replace it if necessary
Wiring H check the auxiliary circuitconnections
Impossible to closethe ISF2. The indicator remains in the open position
Tripped by the undervoltage release The coil is not powered H power the undervoltage release ormaintain it artificially in the”closed---circuit” position (e.g. usingan elastic band)
Closing release The closing release is not correctlyconnected H check the circuit. The winding is cut H change the release
Charging mechanism The operating mechanism is notcharged H charge the operating mechanism
The ISF2 closes and opens immediately then remainsopen when the closing order ismaintained
All opening releases(direct or indirect)
There is a fault on the main MV circuit or the protection circuits are incorrectladjusted. H remove this fault H adjust the protection circuits
The ISF2 opens and closesalternately
Anti --pumping relay or directoperating releases
H H change the relaycheck the adjustment
The ISF2 does not open manuallyor remotel(circuit breaker without electricalcontrol)
Operating mechanism or circuitbreaker (incomplete closing)
The operating mechanism or circuitbreaker is sticking H finish charging the operatinmechanism using the manualcharging handle Inform the Schneider groupservice centre
