Product Description The Snap Shot Adapter makes it possible to take photos using a pocket digital camera with extendable lens/optical zoom and a pair of binoculars from the EL or SLC range. To do this, the adapter is used to centre the camera lens in relation to the binoculars. The result is beautifully sharp digital photos.

Operation

As a first step it is advisable to attach the Snap Shot Adapter to the carrying strap of the binoculars using the safety strap supplied. To attach the strap, thread one end of the strap through an eyelet on the adapter and pull the other end through the loop. Place the loop around the carrying strap and pull through the end with the adapter. This makes it possible to switch easily

between observation and photo shooting positions without losing the adapter.

Twist out one of the twist-in eyecups and attach the adapter to it. Twist the clip of the Snap Shot Adapter to attach the eyecup firmly.

Switch on the digital compact camera. The objective lens extends and is then held up to the adapter. Adjust the Snap Shot Adapter to the diameter of the camera’s objective lens by turning the control disk.

When all steps for setting up have been completed, hold the camera to the adapter and start shooting. ATTENTION: Always loop the camera’s carrying strap around your wrist as the Snap Shot Adapter is purely a centring aid and will not hold the camera on its own!

There are basically 3 versions of the Snap Shot Adapter which differ very slightly from each other because they have to match the different eyecup diameters of the EL 32 models.

The difference is identifiable by the figures stamped on the underside of the Snap Shot Adapter.

The 5 Most Important Questions and Answers 1.) Which cameras are best suited for use with the Snap Shot Adapter?

It is advisable to use a digital compact camera with 3x to 4x zoom. This corresponds approximately to a miniature camera focal length of approx. 35 – 140 mm. An optical zoom/extendable objective lens is, however, essential since this is the only way in which the camera can be centred using the Snap Shot Adapter. The adapter spans objective lens diameters from 23 mm to maximum 35 mm.

2.) How do I avoid the dark shadowing at the edge of the photo? Using Swarovski Optik binoculars with 10x magnification it is mostly possible to take photographs in wide-angle mode as no shadowing (vignetting) arises due to the wide-angle lens on the binoculars. When using a lower magnification it is always necessary to zoom a little in order to obtain a full format image. For this reason it would be advisable to zoom from the camera’s wide-angle format into the medium range before using the Snap Shot Adapter. The distance of the camera’s objective lens from the entrance lens of the binoculars may additionally be varied by way of the twist-in eyecup. At any rate, ensure that the camera is held centrally onto the adapter so that you avoid additional shadowing at the edge of the image.

3.) Which camera mode will give me the best results?

The camera’s focus should be set to infinity as using autofocus mode can lead to problems when focusing. It is also possible to take photographs using “Landscape Mode” if it is not possible to set the camera to infinity manually. Good results can also be achieved using “Program Mode”. Do not forget to de-activate the flash so that you do not get any false lighting effects. Consult the operating instructions of your digital camera for information about how to make these adjustments to the settings.

4.) How do I best hold the binoculars, Snap Shot Adapter and digital camera? Experiment a little with handling the products. It is very easy to switch quickly from portrait to landscape format. Holding the camera with the EL binoculars is especially easy as the wrap-around grip allows for more varied manipulation. Always make absolutely sure, however, that the camera strap is securely around your wrist. The Snap Shot Adapter is intended purely as an alignment aid and will not hold the weight of your camera. Always hold the camera with your hand when taking photographs. The benefit of the Snap Shot Adapter is that the camera is centred accurately behind the eyepiece. Anyone who has ever tried to hold binoculars in one hand and a camera in the other and tried at the same time to get sharp photos will really be able to appreciate the assistance provided by the Snap Shot Adapter.

5.) How do I achieve shake-free photos? In addition to the tips and tricks already mentioned, it can be very helpful if you take several shots of the same subject one after another and select the best and sharpest images on your PC. Using digital compact cameras with a built-in mechanical image stabiliser will dramatically improve the quality of your photos.
