Monday29 farm tour 29Jones Farm owners Chris & Carolyn Jones have a long history of farming. In the late 1970’s, they were the largest minority feeder-pig operators in northeast Mississippi. Their farming enterprise has evolved from

feeder-pigs (and row crop production of soybeans and corn), to their current cow-calf and vegetable production operation. They currently operate on approximately 200 acres of pasture-land in two counties in northeast Mississippi. They have worked with the Mississippi Minority Farmers Alliance, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and other agencies to establish a demonstration farm in Monroe County Mississippi. The Jones’ work highlights their commitment to conservation. In their efforts to be good stewards of the land, they have worked with NRCS to install several conservation initiatives on their farm, some of which include: cross-fencing; rotational grazing systems; a stream-bank crossing; a watering facility; high tunnel initiatives, and ponds.
