When Neil Armstrong saw the Earth from the Moon, it appeared blue! This is because water covers more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface. But fresh water represents less than 0.5% of the total water on Earth. Seas and oceans account for 97% of all water on Earth; but their waters contain dissolved salts and are therefore unfit to drink. The remaining 2.5% is locked up in icecaps or the soil, which is why one often hears of water scarcity in many areas.

• 37.7 million People –over 75% of whom are children are afflicted by waterborne diseases every year.

• Get your taps repaired.• Don't use the toilet as an ashtray or

wastebasket.• Replacing an 18 liter per flush toilet with

an ultra-low volume (ULV) 6 litre flush model represents a 70% savings in water flushed.

• Take shorter showers.• Use your dishwasher and clothes washer

for only full loads.

• Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants.

• Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants.

• Water your lawn only when it needs it, i.e., Don’t water it too frequently.• Water during the early or late parts of the

car.
