SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD INITIATIVE SLI ‘s Women Health care program has started gaining momentum from many locations. Started with initial 3 camps, the number has reached to 14 in the month of Jul’14. This initiative under SLI is receiving overwhelming responses not only from the SLI clients but also from the people of the villages and their family members. Women are oriented on basic health & hygiene factors and are made me to undergo basic check ups like diabetes, BP, haemoglobin level etc. This initiative is helping the bank to create a feeling of belonging in the hearts and minds of the clients which would help in future retention. By extending this initiative to the non-clients, it would help the bank in new business acquisition. CB Program facilitating in new client acquisition

Capacity Building Program intervention is not only helping the SLI clients to acquire new skill and enhance their existing skills but is also helping the business to acquire new clients. In Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, 5 new groups comprising 3 SHGs and 2 JLGs have been formed post the members undergoing CB Program. Training on artificial jewellery making, commercial food production and health camp was organized in which many non client had participated. Being satisfied with the services pro-vided by the bank, non clients had shown interest in availing credit support from the bank. Credit amounting to over 11 lakhs had been disbursed to these newly formed 5 groups.

Empowering women through Capacity Building Program

ShrI Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat papad, popularly known as

Lijjat is a cooperative brand run by women involved in

manufacturing of various fast moving consumer product

and one such being papad. HDFC Bank’s SLI has been

providing training to its clients in papad making and facili-

tating linkage to this brand would result in creating a good

job opportunity for the clients. In this endeavour, 15 clients

from Muzarfarpur branch in Bihar who had undergone

papad making training and skilled enough to be enrolled

were identified. After rounds of discussion with the head in

-charge of Muzafarpur factory of Lijjat, the clients were

enrolled for rolling papad within the terms and conditions

stipulated by the company. Each client is expected to

undergo 15 days of on-job training to meet the specifica-

tions of the products manufactured by the company. With

this linkage, SLI has not only created a good job

opportunity for the clients but is also helping them in so-

cial as well as economic empowerment.

Training Name: Health Camp

State: Assam

Location: North Lakhimpur

More than 143 women from North Lakhimpur branch in Assam participated in health camp. The camp was focused on orienting the wom-en on importance of basic healthcare and en-suring a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Basic checkups like BP, Haemoglobin etc. was also done and they were counselled on primary health care

Training Name: Decorative Item Making

State: Gujarat

Location: Dehgam

Training on making decorative item was con-ducted in which around 18 clients had partici-pated, of which 7 were non-clients. From this, 4 non-clients came forward and expressed interest in availing credit facility from the bank and formed JLG. This training received good response from the clients and they expressed satisfaction over services provided by the bank.

Training Name: Tailoring Training

State: Rajasthan

Location: Chomu

23 clients underwent training on tailoring of which 6 were non-clients. Post conduction of the training, the 6 non clients have been in-ducted to form a new SHG. All the clients who underwent the training expressed happiness over enhancing their skill set.

Training Name: Snacks Item Making

State: Odisha

Location: Baripada

Around 28 clients from Baripada underwent training on making snacks item. Post comple-tion of the training, one client named Sandhya Rani Das have taken up the activity and start-ed production of snacks items from her home. She is supplying the products to nearby shops in the villages and earning good month-ly income.

Training Name: Rakhi Making

State: Haryana

Location: Bhiwani

20 clients from Bhiwani, Haryana underwent training on making rakhi. Post completion of the training, 3 clients have taken up the activi-ty and are currently engaged in production. During the recent rakhi festival, the 3 clients had put up stall in the branch premise and earned good profit from the sale.

Training Name: Folder File Making

State: Karnataka

Location: Gulabarga

Around 25 clients underwent training on mak-ing cloth folder file. The products are in huge demand and would help the clients in earning good income. Anusuaya, one of the clients has now taken up the activity. She is receiving regular work order from the trainer and earn-ing good income.

Training Name: Cloth Bag Making

State: Madhya Pradesh

Location: Seoni

Around 17 clients from Seoni underwent train-ing on making cloth bag. This product is in good demand and would help to fetch good income for the clients. Post completion of the training, 5 clients have shown interest in taking up the activity in order to earn additional income and support the family expenses.

Sustainable Livelihood through CB Program

Training on stitching football was given to SLI clients in Jalandhar , Punjab. As Punjab is the leading producer of many sports equipment, training clients on making them would help in creating a livelihood opportunity. More than 10 clients had undergone training on stitching football. Post their training, they have also guided around 15 clients in this activity. Bank has also facilitated in linking the clients to a local sports enterprise for purchasing the finished products thereby creating a permanent source of in-come for them. Now this activity is helping the client to earn additional and regular income every month.

Training Name: Soft Toys Making

State: Maharashtra

Location: Yavatmal

Around 67 clients attended training on making soft toys. During the training, clients were taught to make different varieties of toys. After the completion of the training, 20 clients have started this activity and are currently engaged in production of soft toys which is helping them to earn additional income.

Training Name: Agarbathi Making

State: Uttar Pradesh

Location: Sultanpur

Around 20 clients underwent training on mak-ing agarbathi of which 9 clients were eligible for second cycle of loan. However the clients were not interested for further loan. Due to the timely conduction of the training program, the clients have found new source of livelihood and all the 9 clients have now moved to second cycle of loan.

Training Name: Embroidery Training

State: Bihar

Location: Patliputra

Mina Singh, one of our SLI clients from Patli-putra underwent training on making embroi-dery. After completion of the training, she had started doing the activity from home in which other women from the village also helps her. Taking her entrepreneurial skill a step further, she participated in a week long handicraft fair and displayed her products through which she had earned good income.

Training Name: Artificial Jewellery Making

State: West Bengal

Location: Chinsurah

20 clients attended training on making artifi-cial jewellery. During the training, clients were taught to make new jewellery designs which are more in demand. Clients were very happy over acquisition of new skill which will help them to earn additional income. Market facilitation efforts are also being made for the clients.

Training & marketing support to SLI clients on Rakhi festival

Training on making Rakhi was organized for over 30 SLI clients in Jalandhar, Punjab & Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh. A rakhi sale mela was organized which provided a platform to the clients to sell the rakhi produced by them and start a new source of livelihood and additional income generating activity. Clients were very happy with the support extended by the bank towards their welfare and holistic development

Four capacity building program name-ly Garment printing, umbrella making, artificial jewellery making & candle making were imparted to over 80 cli-ents in Thodupuzha location in Kera-la. Post conduction of the training, there was good response from other SHG members in the village who had shown interest in joining the bank and availing credit support. Due to the timely intervention, 5 new Self Help Groups were sourced and credit sup-port of around Rs.10 lakhs have been provided to the groups.

The newly acquired clients are very happy that the bank is providing them with many financial and non-financial services such as the capacity building support which will not only help them to learn new skills but also open up new avenues of income generation.
