Andhra Pradesh is the citadel of chilli cultivation in India and to be more explicit, the world's largest chilli producing tract. The chilli market ofGuntur is the world's largest single agriculture commodity market. As a major crop, India produces over 13 lakhs tonnes of chillies from over eight lakh hectares and exports less than three lakh tonnes to different world markets. Alongside the principal tract ofAndhra Pradesh, there are other regions in Kamataka, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh which are also contributing substantially to the production of chillies quantitatively and qualitatively. Casual approaches in production, processing and exports cannot sustain the crop and business any more. This has necessitated conscious interventions in the growing areas and that too by exporting companies who wanted to source the right type of chillies at the right time at the right quality 4 May 2014 '------- specifications.The issues relating to Aflatoxin and other Mycotoxins, illegal dyes, pesticide residues and hygiene are compelling compulsory factors to tighten the supply chain for a fool proof mechanism in sourcing and ensuring traceability. The States of Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on account of its vast areas has been the focal point for backward linkages of farms. Almost all the leading spicesprocessing and exporting houses have their established networks in the growing tracts. When the planned and systematic approaches by exporting companies for sourcing quality chillies happen in the prominent chilli growing states ofAndhraPradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the State ofTamil Nadu was left out in the ambit.
