Upendra Bhatt, Managing Director, India

• Upendra Bhatt (usually called UB) is a ‘Go-to-market’ and techno-commercial specialist with expertise in technology evaluation & linkages. He has been closely associated with the conventional and renewable energy generation and infrastructure domain in South Asia and has worked on shaping innovative market based models for mainstreaming of technology and service interventions in the developing markets.

• He has been involved in building and scaling early-stage ventures – Intellecap and Xius. In the early years of his career, UB held a multitude of roles at Fortune 500 companies, Itochu Corporation and Skanska AB, where he was particularly successful in establishing their South Asian Energy Portfolio.

Pawan Mehra, Managing Director, USA

• Pawan Mehra has been involved in building and scaling several ventures. He is a leader who leverages innovation to create capital efficiency. He has been a venture capital investor in his early career and since then has been engaged in creating mission-driven businesses.

• He has been involved in building and scaling early-stage ventures: first as a venture capital investor in his early career with GVFL and McKenna Capital and, since then, as an entrepreneur with Parsec Interact and Intellecap. He serves on the advisory boards of several ventures across US and India. 1. What does the recruitment process entail?

– A typical recruitment process goes through multiple rounds

1. Screening based on cover letter and resume (since we receive hundreds of resumes a day, we only respond to shortlisted candidates)

2. Email / phone interaction to establish a fit

3. In-person meeting which typically entails a case study review

In many cases we have multiple in-person meetings so that you meet with different team members. This also gives you an opportunity to ensure this is what you want to do.

2. Why is the recruitment process so elaborate?

– We take hiring extremely seriously and are very selective. It is critical for you to know what you are getting into; as also for us to ascertain how you can add value in the organization.

3. Do I need to have prior exposure to Sustainability?

– Yes. To be a sailor on a ship, you need to know to swim; to become an actor you need to show a flair for acting; to join cKinetics, you need to know and understand Sustainability issues.

4. I am really interested in being part of cKinetics. But I have limited experience in the Sustainability sectors (Sustainable Products, Resource Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Cleantechand Sustainability Policy). Can I apply?

– Yes. But you have to have done something to demonstrate that you are interested in one or more of the sectors above; or passionate about the work cKinetics does.
