PET OF THE WEEKHey there, my name is Cadet and I am a "first-rate puppy". I came toWCHS with my siblings from an over-crowded shelter in Mississippi. Iwould be good with dogs in my new home because I stay calm, soft andwaggy and I love to play. I am respectful of a cat's correction so we should get along justfine. I would be great with children of all ages as long as they are respectful of mebecause I am just a little guy; only about 19 pounds right now. I am excellent with all typesof handling - I think it is a great way to spend time together. I have phenomenal mannerswith my food bowl and other valuable resources. I take treats gently and would love toshow you that as you teach me all sorts of new cues. As with any youngster I need topractice house-training so a regular potty schedule will be important. Give me lots ofphysical and mental exercise every day and I promise to make you proud. Raising a puppyinto a confident and well-mannered dog is a lot of work and takes a big-timecommitment. But the reward will be magnificent as you watch me blossom and becomea great member of the community. I would love to take obedience classes, maybe getinvolved in canine sports and find lots of ways to work my mind and body. Stop by tomeet me in person and I know without a doubt you will absolutely fall in love with me.

Tip of the Week: Say No to Easter Grass. Easter grass can make a basket really pretty but it’s irresistible fordogs and cats. They love to chew on it and if ingested it can be dangerous. Use tissue paper instead or if you douse Easter grass, keep those baskets out of reach of your pets.. License Number #266935-DS

The Sussex Hamilton boys basketballteam rallied from a second-half deficitagainst Kettle Moraine and then shutdown the Lasers offense in the closingminutes of the March 10 sectional final inOconomowoc, winning 63-46 to send theChargers to the state tournament for thefirst time in 31 years.

Sussex Hamilton will play OshkoshNorth in a Division 1 state semifinal atthe UW-Madison Kohl Center March 10,with the game starting at 6:35 p.m.

"It’s exciting and I’m kind of speech-less right now," Lucas Finessy said rightafter the game. "It’s exciting."

In the sectional final, Kettle Morainetook the early lead but Hamilton stayedclose throughout the first half. The

Lasers entered halftime with a 28-24lead.

The Lasers opened the second halfwith an 8-4 run to take a 36-28 lead fol-lowing a basket by Michael Payant with14:25 remaining. Afterward, HamiltonCoach Andy Cerroni praised KettleMoraine and Coach Brad Bestor for theirshowing.

"Those kids love him and they play sohard for him. He’s done an incredible jobover the years and I have so much respectfor him and his program," Cerroni said."My heart breaks for him and his kidsbecause you get to this point — he’sgoing to get there. He’s a lot youngerthan I am, he’s got a lot more years in itthan I do, but I’ll tell you, he’s got a lotmore years to go, but I’ve got to tell youhow much respect I have for him."

Cerroni said his teamresponded to the early deficit inthe first half but then the Lasersgot a second half lead.

"Our kids really weathered itand we got a good combo inthere. I thought defensively weturned it up a bit," Cerroni said.

Hamilton then rallied late inthe game, going on a 15-2 run.The Chargers took a 43-41 leadwith 5:54 remaining whenFinnessy converted two freethrows. Tanner Resch then con-verted two three-point basketswhile Finnessy converted a layupto give Hamilton a 51-43 leadwith 3:01 remaining.

"Our kids stepped up for thebig moment and they did a goodjob," Cerroni said.

Hamilton then held KettleMoraine to three points the restof the way to seal the victory.Resch led Hamilton with 18points while FInnessy added 17points.

"That’s where it gets done, onthe defensive end," Cerroni said, noting changes were made onhow the ball screen was defendedwhile the team did a better job ofprotecting the basket. He addedthat the team was able to defendwithout fouling, as the Chargerskept Kettle Moraine out of thebonus.

The win was the reversalof a 59-42 loss to the Lasersat a tournament in Middletonin December and continued aturnaround from a mid-sea-son slump when the team lostsix of seven games. Cerroninoted his team includes sev-eral freshman and sopho-mores in the starting lineupor contributing off the bench.

"That’s how much we’vegrown up," Cerroni said. Headded that the players haveplayed a lot of basketball and"they weren’t afraid of themoment."

Finessy said there "just aspark, during the season wewon a game and it kept onrolling from there."

Cerroni added that beforethe game, he told the team he"couldn’t be prouder of themfor what they’ve done in thepast month. How they cametogether as a team. How theybrought our school together and howthey brought our community together."

While Cerroni previously coachedArrowhead to a state tournament appear-ance in 1992, Assistant Coach DanHeckman was a member of the 1987Hamilton team that went to state.

"His team was the last team that wentto state (for Hamilton). You talk about

bridging that gap," Cerroni said. Headded that "to go back with a coachingstaff I love so dearly and a team that isunbelievable and a community that isunbelievable, I couldn’t be happier."

"Isn’t that just like Coach Cerroni totalk about somebody else rather thanwhat he has done," Heckman said. "He’salways passed the credit to someone else— he deserves it."

It seems the more our politicianstalk about tax simplification, the morecomplex tax filing becomes. While youmay be able to wade through a simplereturn on your own, you most likelywill need the assistance of a tax expertat some point in your life. Changes infamily, inheritance, investment returns, and retirement are examples of situa-tions that may cause you to seek theassistance of a professional. Building arelationship with a tax partner nowprovides you with peace of mind, know-ing you already have a professional youcan rely on and trust.

While many CPAs do tax work, mostfocus in other areas such as businessaudits and general accounting. EAs allspecialize in taxation. To earn the EAlicense, they must pass a stringentthree-part exam administered by theIRS that covers individual taxes, busi-ness taxes and representation of clientsbefore the IRS, or have relevant experi-ence as a former IRS employee. EAs,CPAs and tax attorneys all have unlim-ited rights of representation in IRSaudits, collections, and appeals, butonly EAs obtain their licenses from thefederal government. They are "America’s

Tax Experts."In order to keep up with the con-

stantly changing tax code, EAs arerequired to complete 72 hours of con-tinuing professional education in eachthree year "enrollment cycle." Membersof the National Association of EnrolledAgents (NAEA) must go beyond the IRSrequirement and complete 90 hours inthe same time period.

You will find one of America’s TaxExperts at Gross Tax Service, LLC inGermantown. Michelle Gross EA is themanaging member of the firm, whichwas founded in Germantown in 2004.Michelle is a member of NAEA, current-ly serves as Vice-President of theWisconsin Society of Enrolled Agents, and is a member of the NationalAssociation of Tax Professionals.

The Kettle Moraine Lutheran (KML)boys basketball team rallied from a 16-point first half deficit to defeat Waupun53-48 in a Division 3 sectional finalplayed at Whitefish Bay High SchoolMarch 10.

With the win, the Chargers qualifiedfor their first trip to the state tourna-ment. KML will play Valders at 1:35p.m. March 15 at the UW-Madison KohlCenter.

"They have kept at it and keptgoing. There is nothing they can’t do,they’re incredible young men," KMLCoach Todd Jahns said of his team

Waupun sprinted out to the lead atthe start of the game, at the Warriorsconverted seven three point baskets. Athree-point basket by Jak Lenz gaveWaupun a 29-13 lead with 6:06 leftbefore halftime. Waupun entered half-time with a 34-21 lead.

Jahns said he didn’t make any sig-nificant changes at halftime, otherthan to talk about the team and "get-ting back to doing what we do, which isplaying defense, defending and gettingstops and being better with the ball.We felt they shot incredibly well andthat wasn’t going to continue. We feltthat we could score and get ourselves

back in it."KML opened the second half with a

18-4 run and took a 39-38 lead afterJacob Stoltz converted two free throwswith 7:46 remaining. Waupun the wentinto a zone offense which curbed KML’sscoring run and the Warriors tied thescore at 39-39 when Trevor VandeZandeconverted a free throw with 5:56remaining. Zachary Zuleger answeredfor KML with 5:54 remaining. Waupuntook a 43-41 lead with 4:46 remainingwhen Marcus Domask converted a jumpshot. This was the third time the EastCentral Conference foes faced eachother, with the teams splitting the pre-vious two matches.

"You knew coming in it was going tobe, who could score and find a way toscore, because it’s going to be tough toscore," Jahns said. "They did it in thefirst half, we did it in the second halfand we just had a little bit more, sowe’re thankful for that.”

Dear Dr. Winter, I can’t seem to have a partial denturemade that feels comfortable and fits. If I come to you howdo I know I will be happy?

Dear Kathy, first of all, anything that has to take theplace of the teeth you were born with are not ideal. Youhave a prosthesis that must be put into and taken out ofyour mouth every night. There are forces in your mouthsuch as your tongue, cheeks, lips, etc. that all move andcan cause pressure on your partial. There is continuedbone loss over time when you lose your teeth that makeseach partial you have made less stable because there is lessbone to stabilize it.

Now the pressure on your teeth is uncomfortable andsome partials engage the teeth with flexible clasps like aValplast or Flexite partials and others have metal basedclasps that are more rigid. The flexible partials don’t sit onyour teeth they sit on your gums, which leads toaccelerated bone loss from rubbing. The more rigidmetal based partial will sit on your teeth and preservemore bone but they put more force on your teeth. Eachchewing cycle will push the metal into your teeth causingmicro-flexion which can lead to tooth loosening, orfracture.

So neither partial is ideal! How about an implantsupported partial where you don’t need to clasp yourteeth at all and can rely on implants to take the stresses ofchewing?

Was this treatment ever discussed with you? The sooneryou have implants, the faster you stop bone loss!! Let merepeat that: THE SOONER YOU GET IMPLANTS,THE FASTER YOU STOP BONE LOSS! So youshould always look to replace what was lost as opposed toputting a bandaid on the situation which is what a partialis.

You may then say, "Dr. Winter implants are tooexpensive!" Well, considering the cost of bone loss, theadded surgeries of trying to regain bone to place implants, they are really reasonable when you think about it.Implants can be done one or two per year if that is allyour budget allows and that way over time you mayhave enough implants to throw away your partialaltogether and get permanent teeth!

So to answer your question, we make fantastic partials. We are not done until you are comfortable. That is how we

work with dentures, partials, and bridges, we are notdone until you are happy. That being said, partialdentures are temporary prostheses that need to be remadeand or relined every 3–5 years! Beyond that the teeth willwear, the acrylic will chip, the bone will resorb, so theyneed to be kept in a pristine condition so that they do notcause harm to your remaining teeth and bone. Partialdentures are a compromise and need to be discussed withour patients that way. They are never an ideal solution tomissing teeth.

Please see our articles atwww.hamptondentalassociates.com for examples ofimplant based dentures, partials and bridges and readabout the techniques we use to create great smiles andhealthy chewing. Please watch our video on UpgradeableDentistry and call 414-464-9021 today to schedule yourvisit.

Lastly, we are blessed to have again been selectedfor M Magazine’s TOP DENTISTS AWARDS. BothDr. Bruce and Dr. Richard are humbled by thisaward as we continue to provide dentistry toMilwaukee, continuing a tradition of excellencestarted by our Grandfather and Father 94 years ago!
