The cou-rage to embark on innovative journeys, with determination and a maniacal attention to quality: these are the main characteristics of a young, vital company, called OMNIA.Further demonstrations of the success of

MATERIALS

Microfibre – SMS

Water-repellent material with a honeycomb fibre structure that constitutes a to-

tal barrier for liquids and bacteria.

Thanks to its specific structure, this fabric is highly resistant, without compro-

mising its excellent drapability and extremely low specific weight. With these

characteristics, microfibre SMS is used for the production of high quality surgi-

cal gowns.

Bilaminated NWF

Double-layered material with an absorbent part combined with a polyethylene

film. The two layers are joined by a melting process covering the whole surface.

The NWF layer guarantees high absorbency, while the film creates a total barrier

against liquids and bacteria.

This type of material is used to cover surfaces and patient drapes for small-scale

implant surgery.

Water-repellent NWF

Water-repellent material of an appropriate fibre grammage to assure real pro-

tection for both operator and patient.

The fabric is soft and very lightweight, and is therefore highly suited for the

production of visitor and patient gowns.

Areated NWF

Soft material with honeycomb fibre structure to guarantee a high level of

aeration. These characteristics make it particularly suited for the production

of caps for use in the operating theatre or long periods of use.

SONTARA® SOFTESSE™

Water-repellent material that guarantees a total barrier against organic liquids,

for total blockage from bacteria and contaminating materials of all kinds. Thanks

to its specific processing, this material is very soft, offering great drapability. The

irregular fibre structure assures high breathability, making it stand out from the

other NWF fabrics available.

These characteristics make the material particularly suited for the production of

operator gowns and patient drapes, combining comfort with protection.

Demands:

In the modern surgical environment, ergonomic operating theatre

preparations and later tidying of the used materials is becoming a

more and more pressing demand.

The natural evolution of cotton materials pre-assembled for use in

the sterilisation room leads us more and more frequently to the use

of products that do not imply expensive regeneration operations,

which could also compromise operator safety; thus the demand for

modern Procedure Sets in NWF.

If we also consider the wide variety of disposable sterile products,

as well as the variety of needs of each Surgical Team, it is easy to

imagine how much time and energy is used, often pointlessly, in this

activity. Furthermore, preparations done using loose materials are

more difficult to control in terms of management costs.

The solution:

Using specific procedure sets and using procedures that standardi-

se the preparation of the sterile environments, it is possible to reap large benefits, saving both time and money. At this

point, a valid control tool is also available to assess the cost of each individual surgical operation.

How to compile a customised surgical set:

To compile a customised surgical set, we must first of all establish

the space involved, then, according to the relative surface areas,

we must decide what needs to be isolated in a sterile manner;

Then we need to establish how many operators are involved in the

surgery, and how many of these must be “sterile”;

Then we must decide how to use the drapes and other barrier sy-

stems on the patient (e.g. drapes with U-shaped splits or circular

holes, absorbent-waterproof or breathable drapes for longer operations).

Finally, there is a wide range of sterile accessories that can be included in the customised sets, including: Omnisleeve

sheaths with inserter, transparent PVC drapes, bags for contaminated waste or cotton or NWF gauzes and pads. Of

course the quantity and size of the products must be selected according to the actual demands of the Surgical Team.

Each product in the customised procedure sets is also supplied bearing the name of the Surgical Team.

OMNIA has an adhesive sticker indicating the product

code, expiry date, production batch and method of ste-

rilisation.

STERILE GOWNS

Sterile disposable gowns are an important step forward for Surgical Team protection; in NWF, with specific grammage and materials depending on use, they fully satisfy all sterility and protection demands.Available singly, they dispense with the need for expensive, time-consuming reconditioning proceduresinvolved in the use of traditional materials such as cotton.

Furthermore, the special sterilisation process using ethylene oxide gas (ETO), guarantees sterility for a period of 5 years, compared to the period of just a few weeks for normal surgical sterilisation in the autoclave.

And in addition to this, given the wide range of modern materials used to produce the most advanced NWF, it is possible to produce gowns with specific characteristics, including high water-repellence combined with excellent breathability. Furthermore, the special pattern used to produce NWF constitutes an effective barrier against contaminating agents, which is difficult to achieve with traditional fabrics.

Disposable bone filters, a safe and practical system.

The advances in surgical techniques and the introduction of new materials and technologies in the implant field has led to the development of successful implant prosthesis solutions even under critical conditions.This has led the field of dentistry to handle clinical cases in which it is rarely possible to avoid regenerative surgical techniques, needed to create the optimum conditions for implant stabi-lity that offers reasonable biological and mechanical plausibility for the implant.The field of tissue regeneration is certainly very interesting, and the large amount of research taking place has concentrated on trying to find and develop materials and techniques that can help the reintegration of lost tissue.Today, no biomaterial can seriously compete with autologous bone tissue, due to the intrinsic osteo-inducive capacities of bone itself: the mineral component of the grafted material is in fact the same as the tissue to be regenerated, the reabsorbability is complete, the mecha-nical properties assure autonomous space maintaining and compared with hydroxyapatite based bioceramic materials, the BMP content assures osteogenic induction, with the conse-quent reduction in healing times, in a framework of total safety and anallergenicity.

For outpatient oral surgery, with no problems linked to the availability of bone tissue to be grafted in absolute terms, the creation of a second surgical site for the collection of bone tissue means an increase in surgery times and discomfort for the patient, as well as additional post-operative pain. The use of a filter offers a particularly effective and rational solution for the retrieval of bone tissue, and plays a vitally important role in implant surgery.

The concept behind this is in fact very simple: the recovery of removed bone waste that is normally lost during the creation of the implant site, through a aspiration filtering system. This assures the recovery of a quantity of tissue equal to the equivalent volume of the implant. Contrary to other filtering systems, the use of a disposable filter is a forced choice today, considering the type of instrument, which has a structure that does not offer safe cleaning and sterilisation; in fact the sterility of disposable filters is guaranteed by a validated and quality-controlled procedure based on the use of ethylene oxide.

The important characteristic of this disposable filter is that it is easy for the operator to position on the aspiration terminal, with a short but wide thread which is quickly screwed into position.

This instrument is designed for selective use only during certain parts of the operation, and can then be quickly removed either to use its contents or whenever the contents are not suitable for use or could be contaminated.It can therefore be stated that the use of the filter assures a reduction in operating times thanks to the elimination of surgical time dedicated to the recovery of autologous bone, or rather, due to the fact that this is done at the same time as the preparation of the implant site, without the removal of any more tissue than that which necessarily had to be removed.To conclude, the use of disposable filters is a rational and extremely efficient solution in dealing with tissue regeneration requirements in implant surgery, it is an easy-to-use device that assures the avoidance of dangerous compromises and the need for unforeseen deviations from the planned surgical intervention.It is indeed a worthwhile and useful habit.

HRT diamond tip sectionThe HRT needle has a four-sided pyramid shaped tip and an oval body. Its particular shape allows for good penetration in soft tissue with no lacerations, and without the needle turning in the needle holder. Needle highly appreciated in and suited to oral surgery.

HR round tip sectionThe HR needle is used mainly for delicate tissue and offers good penetration in the tissue with no lacerations or tissue damage.

HS sharp tip sectionThe HS needle is also called “triangular” or “reverse cutting” due to the sharp edges on the sides and lower part.This characteristic makes it the most suitable needle for suture covering tissues of different consistencies.It offers great penetration and strength, indicated for sutures involving periosteal incisions and in the presence of consistent mucous membranes.

OMNIA SILK SUTURE

The OMNISILK surgical suture is a non-reabsorbable polyfilament in natural protein

fibre created by weaving an appropriate number of silk fibres from the cocoons of

the silk worm Bombyx mori L.

The fibres are dyed black using Haematoxylon extract, and decorated and purified

to make them reliable in terms of biocompatibility and non-capillarity. They are

then coated in silicone and paraffin to make the surface smooth and uniform, and

increasing the slidability.

They are woven using a special process to make the surface compact, flexible, soft

and easy to knot, guaranteeing a sure knot hold. This silk filament is particularly

suited for use in damp environments or those with high resident bacterial load,

such as the oral cavity.

OMNIA POLYESTER SUTURE

The POLYOMNI surgical suture is a non-reabsorbable sterile polyfilament suture

made from biologically inert (terephthalic) polyester material with minimal tissue

reaction.

The fibres are dyed green using D&C Green No 6 dye.

The dye used complies with all the FDA directives. The suture is silicone-coated to

make the surface smoother and more uniform. Compared to silk, this has double the

tensile strength, lower tissue reaction, improved slidability and stops the accumula-

tion of plaque.

It is used in oral surgery and in particular in periodontal surgery, implant dentistry and

microsurgery.

OMNIA PGA SUTURE

PGA surgical suture is a reabsorbable synthetic surgical suture made by weaving an

appropriate number of plaited poly-glycolic acid fibres.

The PGA suture has a layer of polycaprolactone copolymer.

The suture has 50% of its initial tensile strength 14 days after surgery, guaranteeing

correct tissue scarring. The knot is reabsorbed in 25-28 days.

It can be used in all cases where it is not necessary to take out the stitches, and in

particularly delicate tissues, in combination with the reabsorbable membranes,

periodontal surgery, bone grafts, microsurgery and maxillofacial surgery.
