The Focus of OB/GYNs

• The primary focus of OB/GYNs is obstetrics: the care of women during pregnancy, and not surgery. As a general practitioner defers to other specialists for specific injuries and disease, OB/GYNs should refer patients in need of surgical treatment to GYN surgical specialists so they can get the best possible care.

• Fertility patients with fibroids may require a myomectomy to improve their chances to conceive and carry a child to term. As most OB/GYNs are not trained in advanced minimally invasive techniques, they often perform open surgery or with the aid of a robot for laparoscopic procedures. Neither of these procedures are better for patient outcomes. They are generally more painful and take longer to recover from.

The Benefits of LAAM

• The surgical specialists of The Center for Innovative GYN Care developed a groundbreaking surgical procedure called LAAM (Laparoscopic Assisted Abdominal Myomectomy) to achieve the best possible patient outcome. LAAM provides less pain and faster recovery, all in an outpatient setting.
