Marbury v. Madison

• Established Judicial review – Supreme Court can review all laws made by Congress

Dred Scott v. Sandford

• Ruled that African Americans were not citizens (they were property).

Plessy v. Ferguson

• Established the principle of “separate but equal.” It approved of separate facilities for blacks and whites.

Brown v. Board of Education

• Ruled that segregated schools are unequal, no more segregation in public schools.

Roe v. Wade

• Gave women the right to seek abortion in the first three months of pregnancy.

Miranda v. Arizona

• Police are required to inform all criminal suspects of their constitutional rights.
