“African immersion begins the moment your plane touches down. Smells, sights

and sounds will flood your senses and forever remain- this is Africa”.

Tanzania is often thought of as the quintessential safari destination and rightly so- with World

Heritage Sites including the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Mt

Kilimanjaro National Park and Stonetown- Zanzibar; Tanzania is one of the best travel

destinations for an extraordinary mix of wildlife, culture and relaxation.

Highlights

The School of St Jude: Founded by Australian humanitarian, Gemma Sisia, St Jude’s offers free high-quality education to children living in abject poverty. With 3 campuses and over 1,800 students both primary and secondary, St Jude’s continues to achieve amongst the highest results in Tanzania, empowering Tanzanian youth to transform their community, challenge the status quo and find solutions for the 12 million Tanzanians living in poverty. Usa River is a small village almost equidistant between Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha Town. The village itself is a typical Tanzanian one - lots of activity, market stalls, little dukas (shops) and a bus stop. From Usa, it's often possible to glimpse beautiful views of both Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro, and for those that prefer to avoid towns, it has an air of the countryside about it which you don't always find closer to Arusha town itself. The St Jude’s campus where you will stay is located here. Tarangire National Park: Named after the river that crosses through it, it is known for having the greatest concentration of wildlife outside of the Serengeti eco-system. The landscape is diverse, with a mix of unique habitats dotted with vast numbers of baobab trees, dense bush and high grasses. During the dry season, the river and the swamps are the only sources of water for thousands of animals Herds of up to 300 elephants congregate, whilst migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala and eland can also be seen, along with the accompanying predators following behind. A birders dream with over 550 bird species recorded including the most breeding species to be found in one habitat anywhere in the world. The Ngorongoro Conservation Authority: The Ngorongoro Conservation Authority area is part of the larger Serengeti ecosystem. It is most famous for the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best well-known wildlife areas in the world. A geological phenomenon, the world's largest inactive and intact volcanic caldera is packed with wildlife including the endangered Black rhino. The floor of the Crater covers 260 km2 (100 sq mi) and is mostly covered by grasslands with two small wooded areas and a seasonal salt lake. The lake is known by two names, Lake Magadi or Lake Makat. The Serengeti National Park: One of the world’s most famous wildlife areas covering 14,750 km2 of grassland plains, open savannah, riverine forests and woodlands. The “endless plains” of Africa is home to the world’s greatest animal migration where 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra follow seasonal rains. Opportunities to see predators like lion, cheetah and leopard are plentiful. Zanzibar: An island famous for its spice plantations, exotic beach escapes and historical Stone Town. For many centuries intense seaborne trading activities in spices, ivory and slaves occurred between Asia and Africa. The trading brought architectural influences to Stone Town, narrow winding streets, houses with airy enclosed spaces and beautiful, heavily carved wooden doors. Zanzibar is also home to the endangered Red Colobus monkey-

good opportunity for lion and leopard sightings. As well as supporting one of the highest population densities of elephants in Africa, Tarangire is also renowned for its spectacular diversity of birds. Game drive along the famous Tarangire River and the rugged baobab studded terrain before arriving at Tarangire Safari Lodge. The lodge is a very comfortable semi-permanent tented camp, located in one of the best spots in Tanzania over-looking magnificent views of the Tarangire River and the game below. Enjoy the splendour and action from the pool or from the spa (while having a massage). Overnight Tarangire Safari Lodge (BLD, private vehicle)

Day 4- 24th Feb It is worth rising for an early morning game drive. The elusive leopard is easier to spot,

wind your way up the Great Rift Valley wall, traversing 2000m through some of Tanzania’s richest farming country, you encounter dramatic views across the soda lake of Manyara. En-route pass through the town of Mtu wa mbu (river of mosquitoes), a busy little trading town selling souvenirs and sweet red bananas. This evening you will overnight at Entamanu. Entamanu (meaning ‘circle' in Maa-language of the Maasai) is the only place in the world where you can enjoy views into both the Crater and the Serengeti. This camp is uniquely off the beaten track on the iconic Ngorongoro Crater rim, it offers an unspoilt, unparalleled Crater wildlife experience, as well as giving an authentic insight into the land and culture that surrounds it. The camp has seven en-suite rooms, with indoor heating, hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Overnight Entamanu Ngorongoro (BLD, house drinks and laundry).
