SESSION OBJECTIVES
• Create a project start-page using Livebinders, Bag the Web, Netvibes or Pinterest
• Think about the usability, functionality and share-ability of
![Page 3: Supporting curriculum using online project pages](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022070518/58e94c351a28ab262c8b54a1/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
HOW DO WE SUPPORT CURRICULUM? • Understanding of the task and the teacher’s expectation of use of research within it.• Library as gateway
– Access to specially-selected resources• Librarian as expert
– Knowledge and understanding of sources of information• Appropriate• Reliable• Accessible
– How to use information in an academic context• Quoting, paraphrasing and referencing• Bibliographies

USING YOUR VLE
• If your VLE is embedded within your school then this can be the best method of pushing out your resources to your staff and pupils.

VLE – BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKSDO YOUR SCHOOLS HAVE A GOOD VLE?
Pros ConsEveryone in the school has access. Interfaces for creating content can be
clunky and not very intuitive.
It’s password/protected and secure – can use it for direct access links to subscribed-to resources.
Time-consuming. Can be click-heavy to implement, design and use/navigate.
It can/should embedded in the culture of the school – students and staff use it regularly.
There will be pockets of teachers and pupils who will not use it.
Generally static, well-tested and reliable. Old-style VLEs seem to be on their way out in in the UK education world.

TASK• Get into groups of up to four people.• Each group chooses/is given one of the web-tools. • Work individually or in pairs, depending on your confidence to create a
project start-page for the research topic: Human Rights• Consider including the following:
– Websites/webpages– A video (YouTube, TedEd etc)– An RSS/news feed– A Twitter account– Can you include documents/files?

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA• Usability
– How easy is the website to navigate and use?– Is the interface intuitive?– How quickly can you put together the start-page?
• Functionality– What can you add to the start-pages you are creating? – Is there a range of media (links, videos, text, files) you can add?– How personalised can you make it in terms of layout and text?
• Share-ability– Are there limitations on how many start-pages you can create?– Is there the option to create shared, password-protected pages?– Can you share your start-pages easily? Via different methods?
