Manitex Announces PM Group Expansion


The long string of achievements by Terex apprentice Elias Sutter continued at the Europe-an WeldCup in the Brit-ish city of Cambridge: The prospective steel con-struction mechanic spe-cializing in welding land-ed an impressive second place as part of the team representing Germany at the competition, relegat-ing defending champions Austria to fifth place in the process. Elias Sut-ter had the following to say about his latest ac-complishment: Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Great Britain, and Romania all had very strong teams, which made the compe-tition really challenging. However, I came well prepared, and that, to-gether with the support I got from the company, allowed me to give it my best.

Instructor Jrgen Hoff-mann is proud of the young apprentice, who is part of a new generation

of skilled workers at Ter-ex: Elias really showed everyone what he is made of! Even though he had to go up against very tough opponents from all over Europe, he prevailed. This not only shows that hes got the necessary skills, but also proves that hes hard-working, motivated, and able to carry out ex-tremely precise work even when under enormous pressure.

In 2013, the German team got third place at the WeldCup.

Jrgen Hoffmann who once was a competi-tor at Jugend schweit himself worked hard to prepare a group of ap-prentices over several months for a number of competitions. All of them went on to do remarkably well at the state champi-onships in the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate, proving that Terex pro-vides outstanding train-ing. Elias Sutter himself landed first place at the

Saarland state champion-ship and then at the na-tionals. He then spent one week at a training camp in Kaiserslautern, where he not only practiced the art of achieving the perfect weld, but also focused on planning and welding cal-culations.

Superior Silica Sands LLC (SSS) is pleased to announce the introduction of a unique, technically ad-vanced proppant to the oil and gas industry. This new proppant, brand named SandGuard, will improve the handling, inner-basin management and job-site implementation of the hy-draulic fracturing of oil and gas wells. With a Sand-Guard treatment facility in Barron County, Wisconsin, SSS will have the ability to enhance the already strong qualities of its Northern White silica sand as a more protected proppant soon to be marketed to all major North American basins.

By incorporating Ar-rMaz SandTec coating technology into the new SandGuard product line, SSS will begin commercial sales in December 2015. The treated sand produc-tion capacity is up to 650 tons per hour of finished product. The environmen-tally-friendly SandGuard product incurs reduced

degradation compared to untreated sand, resulting in the minimization of dust to the customers, employees and contractors who man-age the sand through the supply chain and at the well site. Additionally, the Sand-Guard product improves operational efficiencies since it reduces the need to use bulky mechanical dust control systems. The Sand-Guard product has proven to significantly reduce dust generation during handling as exhibited from numer-ous full scale field trials. These trials by major ser-vice companies have seen superior handling capabili-ties and no negative impact or issues with frac fluid compatibility.

The introduction and implementation of Sand-Guard is a unique value-add addition to the already strong product line that SSS offers to the oil and gas market. We see the abil-ity to protect the integrity of the best-in-class products produced by our Wiscon-

sin operations as consistent with two of our ongoing objectives. First, this tech-nology furthers our goal of providing a safer work envi-ronment for our customers, vendors and employees who manage our production-to-market services said Rick Shearer, President and CEO of both SSS and its parent company, Emerge Energy Services LP (Emerge Ener-gy). Second, this technol-ogy brings economic value to the industry that will have long-lasting impact from the production line to the well site. ICUEE 2015, the In-ternational Construction and Utility Equipment Ex-position, has set a show record as the largest ever with more than 18,000

registered attendees, and surpassing the last show by 13 percent. ICUEE 2015 runs September 29 - October 1, at the Ken-tucky Exposition Centre

in Louisville, Kentucky.Registrants came from

all 50 states, nine of the 10 Canadian provinces and more than 60 other countries worldwide.

The 2015 show set re-cords for exhibit space and number of exhibitors. More than 950 exhibitors, includ-ing more than 250 compa-nies new to the show, took more than 1.2 million net

square feet of exhibit space to showcase their latest equipment and product in-novations, and conduct nu-merous live demonstrations and hands-on opportunities.

This is our most com-prehensive ICUEE ever, and there has been tre-mendous enthusiasm and interaction among attendees and exhibitors from Day One, when the official Kentucky Derby bugler opened the show, said Show Director Sara Truesdale Mooney.

Pacific Coast Terminals is in the midst of $200 million expansion the biggest industrial develop-ment project in Port Moody since the original construc-tion of PCT in 1960.

The Terminals have for decades been shipping sul-phur, a by-product of sour natural gas, and ethylene glycol, which is used in the

manufacture of everyday items such as fleece jackets and beverage bottles.

But thanks to Cargill Ltd. Canadas new $500 million canola crushing plant in Camrose, Alberta, and K+S Potash Canadas massive $4.1 billion Legacy potash mine development in Saskatchewan, PCT is expanding its facilities to

help those businesses get their products to interna-tional markets.

Benefits to the local community are huge 300 fulltime jobs at peak construction and at least 60 well-paying, long-term operations jobs at PCT. In addition, PCTs annual property tax payments to the city of Port Moody will

jump to $2.5 million per year from $1 million at present. For Port Moody, which has almost no in-dustrial tax base, the extra funds are a huge boost to the civic economy explains Diana Dilworth, Adminis-tration and Community Re-lations Coordinator at PCT.

The citys two refiner-ies, Imperial and Petro Canada have been decom-missioned, operations at BC Hydros Burrard Ther-mal Plant are nominal, and a local sawmill has down-sized.

We are the only port-

regulated industry in Port Moody. We have our own tax class. Everybody else is in industry-major, and were in industry-major ports, explained Dilworth, who is also a long-serving council member in the sea-side city of 30,000.

Local government isnt the only beneficiary of PCTs activity noted Wade Leslie, PCT Vice-President and General Manager, dur-ing a recent tour of the Ter-minals. In addition to 60 new direct jobs serving the canola and potash opera-tions, PCT is hiring office staff and Leslie expects the projects will sustain at least as many external jobs as it creates on-site.

You have longshore employees, the supervi-sors, the tugboats and the agents and that doesnt take into consideration the extra jobs created in the community to support PCT. We really try to buy local.

That includes land-scapers PCT is Green Marine certified and has won numerous awards for environmental initiatives and contractors such as electricians and caterers as well as workers at local companies that provide commodities such as office supplies to the Terminal.

I dont know if we re-ally highlight this as much as we should, Leslie said. I think weve probably pumped $100,000 into the local economy just for ca-tering associated with this

project, and weve got 30-40 people a day just going out and eating lunch.

Construction for ship-ping canola is complete and the Camrose plant expects to ratchet up to 700,000 or 800,000 tonnes a year. The potash project has been under way since April and PCT is pushing hard to get the plant com-missioned by fourth quar-ter 2016. In Saskatchewan as many as 1,800 construc-tion workers are involved in the Legacy mine which will provide about 300 full time jobs when its fully commissioned.

Unlike sulphur, which sits unmistakably in huge yellow piles in a few loca-tions around the Port Met-ro Vancouver waterfront, potash has to be shielded from the weather before its moved by conveyor belt onto ships. Already, the concrete floor for the 10-storey, 160,000-tonne capacity potash warehouse has been set down along the waterfront in the Port Moody Arm of Burrard In-let supported by 500 pil-ings and reinforced with a million tonnes of rebar.

When complete, the PCT facility will include the warehouse, a rail car unloading station, under-ground conveyors and a dust control system. Cana-dian Pacific Railways west coast mainline runs right past PCT, and when Lega-cy mine is in full operation, the pink-coloured fertil-

Leslie notes that its challenging to retrofit two additional commodity handling facilities onto an operating commodity ter-minal.

A brownfield site pres-ents a lot of intricate chal-lenges that you wouldnt face if you were just green-fielding this project, Les-lie said. Its posing a lot of good challenges for the engineering staff which they like. Theyre essen-tially overlaying an entire potash terminal over the sulphur terminal and trying to have minimal impact. Were not shutting down operations while this going on.

One of the reasons the project is good news for PCT is that the volume of sulphur shipments has

been dropping, due to a decline in the amount of sour or sulphur-laden nat-ural gas thats being pro-cessed in Alberta despite on-going global demand.
