Suppliers of Reusable Checkout Bags – Ordinance effective October 1 st , 2012. Suppliers on this list carry reusable checkout bags that the SF Department of the Environment has determined meet the requirements of San Francisco’s Checkout Bag Ordinance (33.12). These suppliers have provided adequate documentation of tests conducted by independent laboratories that demonstrate that the specific bag types listed below meet the following Ordinance requirements for a Reusable Checkout bag: (l) Has a minimum lifetime capability of 125 or more uses carrying 22 or more pounds over a distance of at least 175 feet; (2) Is capable of being washed so as to be cleaned and disinfected at least 100 times; (3) If made of plastic, is at least 2.25 millimeters thick; (4) Meets the standards of the California Toxics in Packaging Prevention Act (Cal. Health & Safety Code §§ 25214.11-25214.26), as amended, or any successor legislation. This list of “Suppliers of Reusable Checkout Bags” does not imply that the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Environment endorses these suppliers, nor the quality or compliance of their products under the San Francisco’s Bag Reduction Ordinance. This list is provided as a courtesy, for informational purposes only, and may not be a complete list of suppliers. It is the responsibility of stores subject to the Ordinance to verify the qualifications and compliance of each type of checkout bag prior to purchase from the supplier. The City and County of San Francisco is not responsible for any and all expenses that may be associated with using the list of “Suppliers of Reusable Checkout Bags”.
