Statutorypackingprovisionsthatarevalidinthecount-riessupplyingandreceivingthegoodsmustbetakenintoaccountwhenselectingpackingmethods,systemsandmaterials.

1.2 Scope

ThepackagingandlabellingrequirementsareapplicabletoallsuppliersorpartnerswhosupplyproductsrelatedtoVaillantGroupcontracts/purchaseordersunlessotherwi-sespecifiedintheproductdefinitionorcontract/purcha-seorder.Thepartnersshallimposetheobligationsofthissupplierlogisticshandbookonitssubcontractors(ifapplicable).

1.3 Contact person at Vaillant Group

ThelocalmanageroftheIndustrialEngineering(IE)isthecontactpersonattheplant.

Thecontactpersonforthesupplieristheresponsibleproject buyer.

1.1 Purpose

Thepurposeofthesupplierlogisticshandbookistoformal-ly communicate Vaillant Group requirements and expecta-tionstothe(global)supplychainrelatedtothepackagingandlabellingofproductbeingshippedtoVaillantGroup.

Theinstructionsdescribedbelowaretheminimumrequire-mentsandproductspecificrequirementscouldbeaddedinagreementwithVaillantGroup.ThisinstructionisthebasisfortheacceptanceofthepackingbyVaillantGrouporitsrepresentative.Followingtheinstructionsdoesnotdischar-gethecontractorfromliabilityfordamagesincurredasaresultofpoorpacking.Inthecaseofadamageincurredduetopackingdefects,thisdocumentwillbeconsideredstateoftheartindisputes.

Thecontractorshouldcontinuouslyimprovetheirpackingmethods,comparewithothercustomersofthecontractorandfindbestpracticeregardingpackingmethodsintermsofquality,cost,consolidation,environmentandhandling.Otherpackingmethodsmaybeusediftheyareequivalentormorestringent then themethodsdescribedhereandapproved by Vaillant Group.

Thesupplierisresponsibletopackagetheirproductinsuchamannerthatwhenitisreceivedatit’sfinaldestination,eitherafacilityorcustomersite,itisfreefromdamageandmeetsfit,formandfunctionrequirementswithouttheneedforrepairorrework.Thisisexpectedregardslessofwhoistheresponsiblepartyforfreightortransportation.

• Movementmustbepossiblewithfork-lifttrucks,sobottomclearancemustbeatleast100mmforenter-ingthearmsofaforklift.Ensure,thatpalletscanbeenteredfromall4sideswithaforkliftandatleast1sidewithapalletjack.

• Existingreturnablepackagingwithstandardsizeshavetobeused.

• Aneconomicefficiencycalculation/comparisonofalternatives must be done in advance. In exceptional cases,thesupplierandtheVaillantcontactpersonhavetoapprove,whichkindofpackagingisallowedfortherespectiveplant.

• Apackagingdatasheetismandatoryforeachpart,includingapicturefromthewholepackaging.

• Dimensionofwarehouseineveryplant,regardingmax.dimensionsandweight,mustbeclarifiedbythelocalVG-Responsibleoftheplant.Seealsolistinchapter3.6.

• Toavoidinjuries,metalcrampsarenotallowedatcardboardboxes.Theusageofanappropriateadhesi-ve tape is required.

• Thelayersoftheunitsonpalletmustcompletelybefilledout.

• Onlyonetypeofpackagingmustbeusedperpallet.• Styrofoampelletsorchipsarenotallowedasfill

material.• EachboxmustbemarkedwithaVDA-Label.• Foronearticlenumberthesamepackagingisrequired.

2.3 Dimensions

• Ensurethatstandardpalletsizese.g.800*1200or1000*1200areused.Beams(longside)shouldbethe1200 side.

• Dimensions:incaseofstandardpalletisnotpossible,ensurethatone(beam)dimensionofthepalletfoot-print is 1200.

• Safestacking:minimumbottombeamwidthofpalletsmust be 75 mm.

• Ensure solid pallet quality allowing at least 12 to 15 handlingsteps.

• OverhangofthepackagesoverthepalletisNOTaccepted.

• Theweightofsmallboxesmaynotexceedamaxi-mumweightfrom12 Kg for handling.DeviationfromthisruleisonlyallowedafterapprovalofVaillantHealth&Safety-Responsibleviayourlocalcontactperson.

• Usableforautomaticpallettisingsystems.• Allclearlydefinedinthepackagingdatasheet.

2.1 Introduction

VGrequiresitssupplierstopacktheproductsproperlytowithstandhandling,transportandstorageconditions.Sup-pliermustmeettherequirementsofinternationalconventi-onsfortransportationandfollowValliant‘sinstructionswithregardtopackagingmethods,materialsandlabellingoftheproducts.

Wealsoencourageoursupplierstousetheirbesteffortstominimizetheamountofpackagingmaterialandtopromotetheuseofrecyclableandenvironmentallysoundmaterials,withoutcompromisingtheagreedstandardsofpackaging.

2.2 General Requirements

• Idealprotectionoftheproductinthewholesupplychainagainstdamage,humidity/corrosion,contamina-tion,deterioration,tamperingandotherrisks.Especiallypalletsmustnotbecontaminated(e.g.vermin,rotten-ness,etc.)

• Standardizedmeasurementsofallloadingequipment.• Approved amount per packaging unit.• Rightandcompletelabellingofeveryunit(packaging

unit/pallet unit/transport unit)• Adherenceofergonomicsguidelines• Easyandsafehandling,lifting,loading(incl.loadsecu-

ThepackagingofthepartshastobeESD-performedinaccordancewithDINEN61340-5-1.

ThepackagingmusthavealabelwiththenoteofESD-Sensitivepartsdocumentedinthepackagingdatasheet.

2.4 Ergonomic Requirements

• Locallawsaredecisivefortheergonomicguidelines.• Containersandcomponentsmustbedesignedwith

recessed grips.• Especiallyinterlayersmade,thataretakenouteasilyof

packaging unit.• Toavoidinjuries,metalcrampsarenotallowedatcard-

boardboxesSharpedgesatanycomponentarenotallowed.

• Adherenceofergonomicsguidelines

2.5 Claim

VaillantGroupisentitledtorefuseshipmentsandtochargethesupplierwithadditionalcostsincurredifdeliveriesarenotaccordingsupplierlogisticshandbookand/orsite-spe-cificrules.

VaillantGroupPurchaseconditionsarevalid.

IncaseofanissuethesupplierwillbeinformedpromptlyandaskedtoanalyzeinaccordancewithVaillantGroup‘s8D report.

3. Returnable Packaging

3.1 General

Containerandcomponentsthatshouldbeused,arespe-cifiedin5.2“StandardpackagingcomponentsatVaillantGroup”.

Requirements• AllcomponentsmusthaveaVaillantSAPnumber.New

SAPnumbercanberequestedatVG.Bookingofcom-ponents is mandatory.

• All suppliers are obliged to lead an own booking accountoftheirpackaging.

• SimilarlyVaillantGrouphasanaccounttokeep. Itisnecessarytocarryoutaninventoryregularly, min. 2 times per year.• ThesupplierandtheVaillantcontactpersondetermin

therecirculatedquantity,incooperationwithVaillant-GroupSCMand-Procurement,regardinglotsizeandquantityofdelivery.

• Incaseofusingexistingpackagingfornewcompo-nents,thelineIEasresponsible,toclarifythecosts

foradditionalpackaging.• Inlays,trays,partitionsmaynotbepermanentlyattached

tothebox,arecollectedseparatelyforthepromptlyreturntransporttothesupplier.Otherwiseaproductionstop is coming.

• Bonding or inscriptions are not allowed on returnable packaging.

• Forrepatriationofemptyboxes,thepackagingdatasheetistouse.

VaillantrequiresthattheproductsdeliveredtounitsinEuropeshallbepackedwithmaterialscomplyingwiththeessentialrequirementsofEUPackagingdirective(94.62EC),ISPM15standardandtheInternationalPlantProtec-tion Convention (IPPC) and relevant national ordinances.

6.3 Labeling according VDA

The labelling is an explicit marking of the load. It helps the consigner, the forwarder and the consignee to iden-tify the load.

The consigner is responsible for the right input accor-ding to VDA – Norm 4902:

Labelling per packaging unit, pallet unit and transport unit:

Lable formats for packaging: 210x148 mm 210x74 mm (VDA-KLT Label)

Labels must be fixed to every container and single packaging. Only one lable is allowed per container and single packaging.

All old not relevant identifications must be removed prior to delivery to Vaillant Group.

Reading of label must be easy without any extra handling.

The examples of labeling above are used in the german plants.
