Lockheed Martin Receives Contract Extension to Support Human Spaceflight Missions

August 5, 2014 ROCKVILLE, MD– Lockheed Martin will provide facilities development and operations support of human spaceflight missions at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston through at least September 30, 2016, under a contract extension. The approximately $340 million three-year extension includes a two-year base period with a one-year option. The contract value now exceeds $1 billion.

Under the Facilities Development and Operations Contract (FDOC), Lockheed Martin provides engineering and operations assistance for the hardware, software, data and display systems used to train for and execute all human spaceflight missions supported by the Mission Operations Directorate at JSC. The contract also provides systems services support within the Christopher C. Kraft Jr. Mission Control Center and the Jake Garn Mission Simulator and Training Facility, as well as backup control centers. “At the heart of what makes Lockheed Martin unique is the commitment to taking on the hardest challenges and finding ways to solve them, and our longstanding support of NASA’s human spaceflight missions demonstrates that commitment,” said Rick Hieb, vice president of Exploration & Mission Support at Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business. “Our dedicated team looks forward to continued support of NASA's mission to pioneer the future of space exploration." Lockheed Martin is also working with NASA to modernize the mission control center, training facilities and software applications for the next generation of human spaceflight. This includes commercial space services and future exploration programs, which will reduce the operational and maintenance costs. Completion is expected by the end of 2014.

Siemens plans to sell its business for hospital information systems for US $1.3 Billion to Cerner

Corp.

August 5, 2014 MUNICH—Siemens Healthcare plans to divest its hospital information system business (HS) for US$ 1.3 billion (around €963 million) in cash to the US-based company Cerner Corp. The HS business is focused on administrative hospital IT and electronic patient records, thus different from information technology that enhances the capabilities of imaging modalities and laboratory equipment. It is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania, United States and employs some 6,000 employees worldwide with operations in the US, in Europe (particularly Germany), and in Asia. The transaction is subject to applicable regulatory approvals and planned to close during the first quarter of calendar year 2015. The transaction is fully aligned with the overall strategy of Siemens – Vision 2020. "In the recent years, we have continuously invested in our HS-portfolio and achieved significant progress on the technology side. At the same time, we realized that business success of our hospital information systems could not always keep pace with our competition", says Hermann Requardt, CEO Siemens Healthcare. "Additionally an increasing number of country-specific requirements, such as resulting from US healthcare reform, make it increasingly challenging to achieve sufficient scale effects. Going forward we will focus on the development of information systems that support our businesses in laboratory diagnostics as well as imaging and therapy." The takeover of the business by Cerner provides a positive perspective for customers and employees, as Cerner has a proven expertise and is one of the leading players in the market. Boeing Awarded $250 Million Contract to Modernize NATO AWACS Fleet

August 6, 2014

Move from analog to digital flight deck and avionics technology boosts mission efficiency by increasing access to worldwide airspace. SEATTLE, WA — Boeing [NYSE: BA] has received a contract from NATO worth approximately $250 million to install digital flight decks and avionics on 13 of the alliance’s Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, which are based on the Boeing 707 commercial airplane. The new technology ensures compliance with current and future air traffic control and navigation requirements, giving the aircraft broader access to airspace around the world. “Increasing airspace access means greater mission efficiency by saving time and fuel during operations,” said Jon Hunsberger, Boeing AWACS program manager. “The improvements also provide the pilot and co-pilot user-friendly and customizable engine, navigation and radar data.” Additionally, the upgrade will result in a cost savings in personnel because the flight deck crew will be reduced from four to three. It also solves the challenge of finding out-of-production avionics for the AWACS fleet by utilizing readily available commercial-off-the-shelf digital avionics. The modifications begin in 2016 and will be completed by 2018. Under an earlier Engineering Manufacturing and Development (EMD) contract, Boeing installed a new digital flight deck and avionics on one NATO AWACS. Flight testing begins in the fourth quarter of this year with delivery scheduled for December 2015. As part of the EMD contract, Boeing also will upgrade the flight deck and avionics of a U.S. AWACS aircraft beginning this November.

Lockheed Martin to Deliver Flight Route Development Technology to Bahrain Airport

August 6, 2014 KARLSRUHE, Germany– Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has SECURED a deal with Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) for the implementation of its route analysis tool at Bahrain International Airport. The technology, BEONTRA B Route Development, will allow BAC to calculate, analyse and present high-quality route cases to airlines, while being able to re-calculate and amend on-demand. The project is the first in the Middle East for the BEONTRA B Route Development product and follows Lockheed Martin’s acquisition of BEONTRA in March this year. The technology is just one component of Lockheed Martin’s comprehensive suite of aviation technology solutions, which includes products for air traffic management (such as SkyLine) and tools for airport operations management (such as the Chroma Airport Suite). “It is a special honour for Lockheed Martin to welcome Bahrain International Airport as the first airport in the Middle East using B Route Development,” said Christian Roth, CEO of BEONTRA, a Lockheed Martin Company. “We are excited to support BAC in further developing Bahrain’s route network and assisting them in the transformation of their passenger experience” B Route Development allows airports to develop and build route cases using data from Sabre MIDT, OAG schedule data as well as airport survey and statistical information. Through an intuitive, step-driven process, route cases are delivered in an interactive, graphical format that can be used for improved analysis and collaboration. Lockheed Martin, NASA, and U.S. Navy Test Orion Spacecraft Ocean Recovery

August 6, 2014 LOS ANGELES, CA – In a simulated ocean recovery of an Orion spacecraft test article, Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], NASA and the U.S. Navy practiced recovery techniques for retrieving the crew module after it splashes down at sea following its first test flight later this year. This test allowed the team to evaluate procedures, hardware and personnel responsible for the recovery.

During the test, which took place off the coast of San Clemente Island, U.S. Navy dive teams retrieved and positioned the Orion test article on the USS Anchorage using a Lockheed Martin built recovery cradle, recovery winch, and sea anchor. The information gathered during this phase of testing will help ensure a safe and efficient recovery of the crew module and collection of flight test data after splashdown. “Completing recovery simulations in a real, ocean environment before EFT-1 is incredibly helpful,” said Larry Price, Lockheed Martin Deputy Program Manager for the Orion program. “This test allows us to improve the procedures for handling the crew module and determine if the recovery equipment designs are precise, safe and efficient.” Orion will complete its first test flight, Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1), on December 4, 2014. During EFT-1, the uncrewed spacecraft will launch on a Delta IV Heavy rocket and will travel 3,600 miles beyond low Earth orbit—15 times further than the International Space Station. That same day, Orion will return to Earth at a speed of approximately 20,000 mph for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The flight will provide engineers with data about systems critical to crew safety such as heat shield performance, separation events, avionics and software performance, attitude control and guidance, parachute deployment, and recovery operations to validate designs of the spacecraft before it begins carrying humans to new destinations in deep space.

FM Systems’ Remote Control Relays for Any IP Video System

FM Systems, Inc. announces the new IP4x4 remote control system that puts two way contact relay controls onto any IP video cable without affecting the IP video. Use this to install an access control system or an emergency button out at the camera when the cost of running additional wires is prohibitive. If you have to dig a trench, break holes in walls or tear up concrete this unit can get you the remote control you need without the heavy

labor and expense. Then send and receive relay control signals both ways over the same network cable used for the IP Video. The IP4x4 can be use any twisted pair wire and does not require an IP signal to work. Say you want to have a push button at a gate to announce someone at the gate. Then you want to open the gate with a switch in the opposite direction, you can do this with as many as 4 different controls in both directions. That is a total of 8 controls on the same network cable that brings you the IP video signal. The units have LED indicators for both the input switch signals and the relay output signals to monitor the status of all incoming and outgoing signals. The relay outputs can be set for normally open or normally closed contacts to work with any external equipment requirements. It is powered by 24 Volts AC or DC and can use the same power supply as the camera. This unit is also available in a 12 VDC version at no additional cost, use part number IP4x4-12 at time of order. For added security the system has a two way “system alarm” relay and LED to indicate loss of communication between the two units caused by a signal disconnect or a cable failure. You get both transceivers with power supplies all included when you order the IP4x4, and you can order this unit with supervised alarm contacts for even more security at no additional cost. When ordering a supervised system, specify the loop resistance and order part number IP4x4S. The IP4x4 will pass “P.O.E. on data”, when the P.O.E. is used on the Video lines 1, 2 3, 6. Getting to Vegas: Many Las Vegas hotels are so close that delegates can walk to many destinations.

When transportation is required, however, Las Vegas offers myriad options including bus, taxi, shuttles and monorail.

Arriving at the Airport: The easiest route into Las Vegas is via air.

Commercial and charter airlines arrive at McCarran International Airport, centrally located on the west side of town. The McCarran

Executive Terminal and Henderson Executive Airport, a few minutes south in Henderson, serve corporate jet traffic.

Ground transportation from the airport and around town consists of airport-based rental car agencies, hotel

limousines, shuttles, taxis and the Las Vegas Monorail, which services McCarran. Visitors arriving by car travel

Interstate 15 from California and Utah or Route 93 from Arizona.

Rental Cars: Most of what happens in Las Vegas happens on the Strip or Downtown, and almost everything is a short cab, limo, tram or monorail-ride away. For business in neighboring areas, we recommend a rental car. Most national car rental chains such as Avis, Budget and Hertz can be found at the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. Some have several locations at most of the major resorts on the Strip, such as Avis at Aria,Bellagio, The Palazzo and The Venetian, and several have lots on Fremont Street. Taxis and Shuttles: Taxis are metered and most will accept credit card payments. A ride from the airport to the top of the Strip will run you about $17, but expect to pay approximately $25 for a trip Downtown. For those willing to share an airport shuttle with up to 20 passengers, a ride to a destination on the Strip can cost less than $10. On a side note, when leaving the airport by taxi or shuttle, please insist that your driver avoid taking the 215 airport tunnel to get to the Strip (this longer route can add $10 to $15 to your fare). Monorail: – The Las Vegas Monorail stops at the Las Vegas Convention Center and travels the entire length of the east side of the Strip from the Sahara Station (at Paradise Rd. and Sahara Ave., the site of the now-closed Sahara Hotel) to the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. It runs between 7 a.m. and 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday through Sunday. A single ride costs $5, an all day pass costs $12 and passes for three days are available for $28. Be prepared to do some walking though, as all of the stations (save for one) are located a bit of a distance from most major resorts and hotels. Trams: Three free trams are located on the west side of the Strip, on the opposite side of the monorail's route. Trams connect Treasure Island to the Mirage Hotel, the Monte Carlo to the Las Vegas CityCenter and theBellagio, and the Excalibur to the Luxor and the Mandalay Bay.
