Supplementary Examination system was being re-adopted around July

2011. Below are the details regarding supp exam, after discussed with

students and management.

Supplementary Exam Policy

1. Students have to pay RM50.00 per subject as Supp exam admin fee.

Arguments from Students Justification from Management

- Previously no payment was

needed when supp exam was

carried out

- Venue, invigilators, exam papers

and etc do not cost much

- It is unfair for genuine MC case

- MMU intend to earn money via

this method

- Supp exam was being abused last

time, especially fake MC case.

- It is a nominal/administrative fee,

instead of cost.

- Students who qualified for

financial assistance may refer to

YUM.

- If MMU want to earn money,requirement will not be set so that

everyone can go for supp exam

2. Requirements to be eligible to take supp exam.

- Min 50% coursework marks

- Min 40% total exam score (final+CW)


- Allowing the students to take

supp exam doesn’t mean that

he/she will definitely pass the

paper. Hence the quality of the

university is still maintained

- It is not the right of students.

Chance was given in final exam.

Therefore in order to be eligible to

go for supp exam, certain

requirement must be reached.



- Failing the paper and not eligible

to go to supp might lead to

students extending, since not all

the subjects are being offered

every trimester

- The requirements are too high.

Students are able to pass supp

exam with lower 50% cw.- Back-to-back paper during final

exam that lead to low mark

(compressed timetable)

- Students can appeal for subjects

to be offered.

- Re-sit and special paper are being

abolished; hence the exam time

slot will be loosened.

- Management would like to

change the culture and mindset of

students. Students should be moreserious on their final exam paper.

- Discretion of lecturer

Arguments from Students Justification from Management- No clear cut criterion for lecturer

to evaluate students.

- Such discretion will make the

above 2 criteria meaningless since

students might be barred even

he/she meet above 2 requirements

- May involve too wide and

arbitrary personal opinion of

lecturers

- The lecturer knows his or her

students’ ability to pass or fail the

paper.

- Fulfilling the above 2

requirements only indicate that

he/she is eligible to be evaluated

by lecturer, not directly eligible to

go for supp exam.

- Management agreed toreconsider this requirement and

will be discussed on next Senate

meeting

3. RM 100.00 for remarking paper




- There is no reason to increase

the fee, as the process is still

same as previous system

- This will stop students from

appealing for remarking the

paper, which suppose to bestudents’ right.

- This will give the impression

that MMU wants to earn money

- To stop students from abusing

the remarking paper system.

Students should only submit for

remark when he/she feels

something is wrong and after

consulting the lecturer.- If there are any changes

(increase in grade), RM 100 will

be refunded.

- Management does not want

students simply go for remark

and waste the RM 50.00.

Students should only proceed

with genuine case

Finance Policies

1) Students must settle their overdue amount before they are eligible

to pay and sit for their supplementary paper


-No previous announcement was

made

-Unable to find huge amount of money within days

-The announcement that students

should pay full amount for every

trimester was made.-Students were given the time

since week 1 until final results

were released to prepare money to

pay fees.

-Students should try to apply loan /

scholarship or discuss with CMU if



they are having financial problems.

Implementation

1. With ‘Pass’ status but have supp paper/ Having ‘Pass’ in the status

but when grade released grade there was C-.

This is because ERU was adopting the old system whereby C- wasconsidered pass. ERU took down the pass and fail right after realizing

the problem. ERU most probably will directly release the result next

time.

2. The quality of server delays the whole procedures.

SRC are working up with ITSD to improve the server.

ITSD promised the service will be smoothed on Jan.

3. Exam slip was not completed on Wednesday/

Students have to take exam on Monday

There is a clinic in Melaka named Medicare Clinic, which was panel

clinic but became non-panel last sem. However a lot of students still

didn’t realize about this and hence their MC being rejected by

Senate. ERU realized this issue on Wed and after discussed with

President, Senate agrees to approve the MC from Medicare Clinic

and hence those subjects with students who obtained MC fromMedicare Clinic have to be taken out and place on Monday.

It is suggested to publish the list of panel clinic to avoid similar issue

happened again.
