Sincerely,

JOSEPH S. SALADINOTown Supervisor

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce that the Town of Oyster Bay has scheduled its Cultural Enrichment Program for the fall of 2019. This program offers varied self-development classes for adults covering a broad range of cultural interests. This season, we’re offering instruction in writing, jewelry-making, painting, drawing, meditation, psychic development and astrology. All classes will be taught by instructors who are accomplished in their fields.

The Department of Community and Youth Services, through the Cultural and Performing Arts Division, takes pride in presenting educational and informative programs; I am confident you will find a class that will pique your interest.

These fall, classes will be offered at two of our Town of Oyster Bay Community Centers - the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center in Woodbury and the North Massapequa Community Center in Massapequa.

On behalf of my colleagues on the Town Board, I encourage you to take advantage of these exciting classes organized for both your education and enjoyment.

#01 Memories Into MemoirsTOB Residents $80 Non-Residents $9510 Weekly SessionsInstructor: Dr. Laurie Rozakis

Mondays, 10: AM - 11:00 AMLocation: Syosset-Woodbury C.C. Dates: September 23 & 30; October 7, 21 & 28; November 4 & 18; December 2, 9 & 16

How many times has someone told you, “What an interesting life you’ve had! You should write your stories down.” Yes, you should write your memoir, not only to educate and entertain, but also to reflect on your experiences, relive special moments and come to terms with challenging events. “Memories Into Memoirs” will help you start this journey.

We will meet once a week and share our stories under the gentle guidance of Dr. Laurie Rozakis, published author and university professor of English. By the end of the program, each participant will have written at least eight remembrances. Like quilting blocks, these can be assembled to create a manuscript that participants may wish to publish.

Dr. Laurie Rozakis is a writer of the Complete Idiot’s books and an expert on coaching writers. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Hofstra University and her PhD from the State University of New York.

“I feel that once a person has learned a couple of skills, it gives them the ability to design and create pieces that speak to them. These skills can be simple, and they still open up great potential for creativity. My students often wear their new adornments the next day, and enjoy the compliments when their co-workers and friends admiringly say, ‘you made that?’”
