Super Sky’s structural systems utilize tubular or
I-beam aluminum extrusions. Framing is available
in a variety of standard or custom shapes and
sizes, in aluminum alloys to meet your project
aesthetic and structural requirements. Super Sky’s
standard glazing system consists of retainers and
snap-on caps, securing the glass to the sloping
rafters. A high performance silicone wet seal is
then applied. Horizontal joints are flush glazed,
ensuring water tightness.
Total flush glazing is Super Sky’s proprietary
4-sided silicone system, with concealed mechanical
fasteners, resulting in no exposed caps.
Super Sky’s advanced CAD/CAM system saves
customers time and money. Direct connection
to our CNC machining center enables program-
mers to cut and prepare skylight components
to precise dimensions, while digitally storing the
information.

Several innovations were required on thisunique project to fit fifty vaulted strip sky-lights on this special curved roof design. The most interesting innovation centeredaround the need for a connection systemwith adjustment to fit 1,000 unique anchorconditions. The wooden roof structure is a combination of curved and twisted glue-lam arches, steel tees, and cables thatform the compound curve shape.
The unique characteristics of this system allowed Super Sky to deliver frames andglass 100% pre-fabricated. The adjustablesupports allowed the skylight frames to proceed as planned with no reworked components required to suit the as built dimensions of the complex roof.

Super Sky currently holds four Miami-Dade CountyNOA’s (Notice of Acceptance) for impact rated sky-light systems. These products are required not only inMiami-Dade County, Florida, but in most of Florida, and virtually every coastal area from Texas to Maine, when a skylight is part of the building envelope.
Impact rated products are required in states governedby the IBC, when a project is within one mile of thecoast and the design wind speed is 110 mph or higher.

Hurricane/Impact Hurricane/Impact & Blast Systems& Blast Systems
Hurricane/Impact & Blast Systems
They are also required in any area where the wind speedis 120 mph or higher, even if the job is not within onemile of the coast.
A skylight located higher than 30 feet above gradewould require a small missile impact rated system. If theskylight is located 30 feet or below in elevation, thenlarge missile impact requirements would apply.
Current NOA numbers can be found at our website: www.supersky.com
U.S. COURTHOUSE Architect: GSAJackson, Mississippi Blast Resistant
Blast Resistant SystemsBlast resistant design requirements have become more prevalent in the constructionindustry. Although primarily specified forgovernment and defense sectors, the need forblast resistant systems extends to public gath-ering places. Super Sky takes pride in reachingthese challenges by engineering sysems tomeet the various threat level requirements.
Construction of blast compliant systems consists of highly complex framing and connections back to the support structure.Glass thickness is confirmed with level ofthreat and is fully capped with secondarystructural sealants.
Super Sky has worked on projects with a minial threat level to designs requiring full dynamic glass and frame analysis. Our engineers utilize current GSA controlled soft-ware to work closely with our design team to accommodate all scenarios.

Repair Make necessary repairs to existing skylights and eliminate leaks.
Refurbish Cut out and replace all existing sealant and recaulk the system. New caps and pressure bars with gaskets can be provided, for a “like new”skylight.
Reglaze Replace the glass in existing skylights due to seal failure or upgrade to high performance andlaminated safety glazing.
Replace If the system is old and unsafe, we can offer efficient solutions to replace the skylight and possibly value engineer the system design.
In addition to manufacturing the highest quality custom skylights and sloped glazing systems, Super Sky also specializes in renovation and repair of existing skylights.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress HotelOrlando, Florida
The skylight sits above the main atrium and had significantleaking problems for many years. The skylight consistedof acrylic bubbles on a gutter system which was supportedby a steel space frame. In heavy wind storms, some of theacrylic bubbles had even blown off the building.
The owner wanted to replace the system with a hurricanecompliant, energy efficient skylight that would not leak. Super Sky provided a custom glass skylight solution that solved all of the existing problems. This skylight removal and replacement was able to be accomplishedwith minimal disruption of the daily operation of theatrium space.

Quaker Bridge MallLawrenceville, New Jersey
Like many large shopping malls in the country built in the 1970’s & 1980’s, the roof of the Quaker Bridge Mall had several original skylights that were originally built using clusters of acrylic barrel vaults separated by stainless steel gutters. These acrylicbarrel vaults were past their serviceable life and in serious need of replacement.
Super Sky was contracted to replace the existingacrylic vaults with new flat multi-wall polycar-bonate sheets, utilizing the existing frames andgutters. However, upon our initial inspection, itwas clear that this would only solve a portion of their problems. The stainless steel gutters thatseparated the acrylic vaults were obviously contributing to the water infiltration, evidencedby the many layers of sealant that had been applied over the years.
Instead of a simple re-glaze, Super Sky quicklydeveloped a plan to completely remove the existing frames and build entirely new skylights(frames and all) over each cluster, eliminatingthe need for the existing gutters altogether. Thisplan was executed entirely at night as not to impact the Mall’s holiday-season operations, and without any disturbance to the interior finish work. Most importantly, the expandedscope was executed with no additional cost tothe owner.

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) generate powerfrom solar collection surfaces that create savings in electricitycosts, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and emission of ozonedepleting gases. BIPV skylights allow solar power to producesome of the electricity used in your building, while adding anarchitectural interest that tells the world you are committed torenewable energy and green building.
Super Sky has constructed hundreds of projects incorporatingour high standards of skylight design, construction andweather proofing, as well as photovoltaic power generation. Because of this experience, we can offer a turn-key approachto your BIPV project.
Due to our years of experience in BIPV, Super Sky worked with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to help develop their new cat-egory “Building-Integrated Photovoltaic Mounting Systems”(QHZQ). We are also the first company to have an approved UL Classified BIPV mounting system. Our UL Classification filenumber is E247515.

Super Sky’s Polycarbonate Systems consists of THE EDGE®, and
Standing Seam (shown on pages 34-35). These systems can be
utilized for both sloped (minimum 2:12) and vertical applications.
THE EDGE® is a single layer skin system that can mount directly
on steel supporting structures or can be glazed to our standard
aluminum extrusions to accommodate larger spanning systems.
