The recently enacted Ethics Reform Law applies to all public employees in Massachusetts and seeks to "prevent conflicts between private interests and public duties" by informing and training public employees about the content of the law.

You received a copy of the Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law in the fall. The next requirement is to complete the Ethic Commission Online Training at http://db.state.ma.us/ethics/quiz_MEthics/index.asp and submit a printed confirmation you have completed the training to your school or department office by Monday, March 22, 2010.

The Enduring Legacy of Ancient China Dates: June 16 – August 172 graduate credits ($200)The remarkable richness and endurance of Chinese civilization will be the central focus for this online course, which will explore the long period from the emergence of China's earliest civilizations to the end of the dynastic phase in 1911. The course will mirror the thematic approach taken by Primary Source's own sourcebook, The Enduring Legacy of Ancient China. Topics will include geography, belief systems, the arts, and China's relationship with the world. The online course will feature supplemental readings, scholar podcasts, and web-based activities to engage teachers in some of the most current scholarship, while exploring student-friendly tools and resources. This course will be offered completely online and will require a basic comfort level and interest in the use of computer technology as a medium for learning.Open to all K-12 educators

Democratic Vistas: Civic Life, History, and American ArtNational Endowment for the Humanities Summer Course (pending funding)Institute Dates: August 12 & 13, 2010Location: Emerson College, Museum of Fine Arts, other Boston locationsPDPs/Credits: 13 PDPsOpen to New England educators from schools that have received the Picturing America art portfolio. This two-day conference, offered in conjunction with the NEH “Picturing America” program, will show you new ways to incorporate important works of visual art in the core humanities curriculum. The conference explores democratic values and aesthetics as a theme in American art and highlights the “art of the people”—folk and traditional art--as an expression of American creativity. Lectures and workshops by leading scholars and classroom practitioners will examine Picturing America selections spanning three centuries. Using a finger, you can control computer applications, write notes, search the Internet, and annotate and save your work. Scheduler for Powerschool at Wellesley Middle School. Beginning April 1st and continuing until scheduling is complete. Responsibilities include data entry and hand scheduling using the PowerScheduler in PowerSchool. Meeti with Department Heads, Guidance Counselors and Principal as necessary to ensure timely and accurate data entry and hand scheduling. WINGS'10 Academic and Enrichment Summer Program Positions:

Regular Education Teaching Assistants -- 4 Weeks 7/6/10-7/30/10 AM Academic Courses Teaching Assistants for the academic classes ($18/hr or current rate) to teach in the AM (8:30-11:30) session. Candidates must be experienced teaching either math or literacy. Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with WPS grade level learning goals and who have experience working with students with special needs.

Student Assistants -- 4 Weeks 7/6/10-7/30/10A limited number of Student Assistants ($10/hr ) to work in enrichment classes in the AM (8:30-11:30) and/or the PM (12:00-3:00) sessions. Preference will be given to high school and college students who have worked in WINGS in the past or who are children of Wellesley staff. Read the description of the courses at www.wellesley.k12.ma.us (click on programs) and indicate in your letter of application which courses you think your skills/talents/experience match.

Nursing coverage for all summer programs 7/1/10-8/6/10Registered nurse(s) ($39.49/hr.) Preference will be given to current WPS nurses and others who have worked in WINGS in the past.

Secretary -- 7/6/10-7/30/10Responsibilities will include tracking and recording student attendance for each of the four time periods a day, managing all incoming phone calls, helping to maintain attendance and weekly time sheets, helping to support the needs of up to 70 adults.

Preschool Special Education Positions 7/1/10-8/6/10

Lead Preschool Teachers for P.A.W.S. Summer '10Lead teachers for both the four and six week programs. Master's degree and DESE licenses in both early childhood education and special education required, expertise in using Applied Behavior Analysis as a teaching methodology is required for the six week long program. Preference will be given to current WPS employees.

Preschool Teaching Assistants and ParaprofessionalsTeaching assistants ($18/hr or current rate) must have experience in working with preschool aged children with special needs. Paraprofessionals ($25/hr or current rate) must have expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis. Current WPS employees should state their current rate of pay in their letter of application.

Therapists for WINGS'10 and P.A.W.S. (Preschool at Wellesley Schools) 7/1/10-8/6/10Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapists ($45/hr). Certification and experience required. Preference will be given to current and former WPS employees.

Elementary Special Education Positions Special Education Teacher Positions 7/1/10-8/6/10Special Education Teachers ($39.49/hr) to teach students with language-based learning disabilities in grades 2-5. The position is part-time (8:30-11:30) each morning for six weeks. Teaching Assistants for Four and Six Week ProgramsTeaching assistants ($18 an hour or current rate of pay) to support students with disabilities in special education classes and in some academic, enrichment, and recreational activities for both the AM (8:30-11:30) and the PM (12:00-3:00) sessions. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently working in WPS, with training in elementary education, special education, or related field and/or experience with students with disabilities.

The Wellesley Middle School would like to hire a speech and language pathologist for its summer school. The speech and language pathologist would work with individuals and groups of middle school students on their language and social skill development. The summer school runs from July 1 to August 6. This is a 20 hour a week position. The rate for this position is $45/hr.
