As you requested on behalf of the Cayucos Elementary School District Board of Trustees, I ampieased to provide you with the attached proposal for the San Luis Obispo County Office ofEducation to conduct a search for a Superintendent for the district. If the proposal is acceptable,I suggest a meeting with the Board as soon as possible to get direction from the Board regardingcommunity participation, initial thoughts regarding compensation and qualifications, and a
tentative timeline for the search. These decisions are important in order to advertise the position
in a timely manner.

TO CONDUCT THESUPERINTENDENT SEARCH FOR THE
CAYUCOS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT
December 10.2010
The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education will perform the following items in assistingthe Cayucos Elementary School District Board of Trustees in selecting a Superintendent.
1. Meet with the current Board of Trustees and other groups (i.e., management staff,certificated staff, classified staff and parents) approved by the Board of Trustees. Thepupose of these meetings is to bring forward thoughts about the needs of the Diskict inselecting the best candidate for the Cayrcos Elementary School District Superintendent.
_,/ 2. Compile the information gathered from the meetings into a report to be presented to theBoard of Trustees.
3. Conduct research regarding current salary/contract information for Superintendents indistricts that are similar to the Calucos Elementary School District. Include thisinformation in the report to the Board of Trustees.
4. Obtain from the Board of Trustees the desired qualifications, traits, salary r&nge,selection process and other items to be used as parameters in conducting the search. Thiswill be done at an open meeting of the Board.
5. Produce a brochwe describing the District and the qualifications for the position.
6. Advertise the position in all appropriate publications, as well as on the various web sitesused to recruit Superintendents for public education. The publications will includeAssociation of California School Adminiskators (ACSA), Califomia Association ofSchool Business Officials (CASBO), EDJOIN, and any publications directly gearedtou'ards small school di.stricts.
7. Receive all appiications and respond to inquiries on behalf of the district.

8. Facilitate and manage the paper screening process, which wili be conducted by localSuperintendents and Persormel Directors. Three to five applications wili be presented tothe Board of Trustees for consideration to be interviewed;however, the Board will haveaccess to all of the candidates' files for review.
g. Facilirate and manage the interview process.
10. Schedule and accompany the Board of Trustees for a site visit to the final candidate'scurrent school district. The Board of Trustees may include other individuals toaccompany them on the site visit.
1 l. Assist the Board of Trustees in contract negotiations.
The fee to conduct the search is $4,500 * any candidate travel expenses and Board of Trusteestravel expenses. The fee includes all costs related to advertising and printed material.
