Pilot - definition

• A pilot plant is a small industrial system which is operated to generate information about the behavior of the system for use in design of larger facilities. Pilot plant is a relative term in the sense that plants are typically smaller than full-scale production plants, but are built in a range of sizes

• An experimental industrial plant in which processes or techniques planned for use in full-scale operation are tested in advance.

• Industrial research …. may include the construction of prototypes in a laboratory …..as well as of pilot lines, when necessary for the industrial research and notably for generic technology validation;

FIBIC - Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation with focus on Bioeconomy

• A private-public partnership platform to bring together innovative companies and research community

• Intensive and long-term commitment to achieve shared goals.

• Research programmes, based on an joint strategy, form the core of activities

• Expected results:

• Breakthrough innovations of global importance.

• Renewal of the industries

• The roots of the FIBIC competence are in the forest industry but wider range of biomass, applications and competences are targeted.

Our task

Europe’s ability to produce & commercialise high value products lies in its ability

to reach demonstration scale of advanced biorefineries to mature technologies

Different types of projects

The SIRA (Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda) includes a balanced

combination of projects:

• R&D PROJECTS

• Technological innovation gaps

Development of specific technologies and concepts needed to realise the value

chains, and proving the principles in pilot installations

• DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS

• FLAGSHIP PROJECTS

• SUPPORTING PROJECTS
