Vice-Chancellor’s Introduction
Making the right choice of university is very important for your future. Sunway University is an academically “excellent” institution as judged by the national SETARA quality assessment carried out by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. Moreover, we work in partnership with distinguished institutions around the world. For example, many of our degrees are validated by Lancaster University, UK, which is a top ten UK institution. This means students on such programmes can get dual awards with certificates awarded by both Sunway and Lancaster. In the hospitality field, we partner with the renowned Paris-based institution Le Cordon Bleu, which upholds the highest global standards in hospitality and culinary training. Other qualifications carry accreditation from the major professional bodies in their fields. All of this says one thing: whatever the field of study, Sunway University distinguishes itself by quality. This is exactly what you would expect from a University that is supported by the not-for-profit Jeffrey Cheah Foundation and which is part of the highly successful Sunway Group of companies.
Our graduates are increasingly sought-after by top organisations both in Malaysia and internationally. All of our academic programmes are designed to give the highest quality of education but focused on particular job requirements. They also provide our high calibre graduates with the necessary generic professional skills to enable them to succeed in the highly competitive employment market.
Professor Graeme Wilkinson, DPhil (Oxford), FBCS, FRSA Vice-Chancellor

Jeffrey Cheah FoundationA Timeless Commitment to Giving
18 March 2010 marked a significant milestone in Sunway’s legacy of giving. The Sunway Education Trust Fund that was set up in 1997 officially became the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, and in doing so crystallised Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah’s vision and aspirations into a timeless commitment to benefit future generations to come.
Jeffrey Cheah FoundationA Timeless Commitment to Giving
The formation of the not-for-profit Jeffrey Cheah Foundation meant that the ownership and equity rights of the Sunway Education Group’s twelve learning institutions, valued at more than RM 720 million, were officially transferred to the Foundation whose fundamental philosophy is giving back to society through education. To date, the Sunway Education Trust Fund and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation have disbursed in excess of RM132 million in scholarships. Through the Trust Fund or the Foundation, operating surpluses are ploughed back into the institutions or disbursed as scholarships and research grants, ensuring that sustainable, quality education is a priority. Governed by a distinguished Board of Trustees, the Foundation aims to safeguard the institutions in perpetuity by ensuring that the assets and operating surpluses are used to continue the cause of providing and sustaining quality education for present and future generations of students. The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation was officially launched on 18 March 2010 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, in the presence of its Royal Patron, H.R.H. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, The Sultan of Selangor.

Lancaster @ Sunway
An Educational Partnership for World-Class DegreesSunway University has a very strong strategic partnership with Lancaster University in the UK, which means that many of our degree programmes lead to dual awards with certificates awarded by both universities. Lancaster University was established in the UK by Royal Charter in 1964, and enjoys a world-class reputation for its excellence in teaching, scholarship and research. Lancaster is ranked consistently among the highest quality institutions in the UK featuring in the top 12 in all of the major UK league tables . It is also ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide. It is a member of the prestigious N8 Group, which consists of the eight most research-intensive universities in northern England. Collaboration with an international partner of this prestige is a very special feature of Sunway. For graduates to obtain both a Sunway certificate and a certificate from a top quality British institution is a very special advantage of studying at Sunway University.
Lancaster @ Sunway Le Cordon Bleu @ Sunway
Lancaster Validation – How It WorksUnder the strategic partnership between the two universities, Lancaster validates most of Sunway’s degrees. This means that Lancaster regards such degrees offered at Sunway as equivalent to its own and issues its own degrees as well to successful graduates. Having successfully completed a dual award programme at Sunway and met the agreed criteria, graduates will therefore receive:
• A certificate from Sunway University and a certificate from Lancaster University – each institution will issue its own degree certificate
• A joint transcript with marks from Sunway University and Lancaster University
Le Cordon Bleu @ Sunway
International Excellence in Hospitality EducationLe Cordon Bleu is one of the most highly respected organisations in the world devoted to the culinary arts and hospitality. Founded in Paris, it has a prestigious history and is renowned as arguably the most distinguished culinary arts school in the world. It is an organisation which stands for expertise, innovation, tradition and refinement in the culinary arts and for world-class excellence in hospitality education.
Certification by Le Cordon BleuSunway’s partnership with Le Cordon Bleu means that programmes in the fields of culinary arts and hospitality management are certified as meeting the very highest industry standards, as laid down by the Le Cordon Bleu. In practice this means that graduates from certified programmes receive two certificates: a degree or diploma from Sunway University together with a parchment from Le Cordon Bleu confirming that the graduate has completed a programme certified by Le Cordon Bleu as meeting its industry standards. Graduates therefore receive both academic recognition and industry recognition in the certificates that they receive. This very special arrangement gives Sunway graduates the edge in the highly competitive international hospitality industry. This is another example of Sunway’s excellence.

American Degree Transfer Programme
Centre for American Education
“ An American degree is recognised throughout the world as a mark of quality and is a passport to today’s global jobs market. An American degree usually takes about four years to complete and, because of the high cost of education in the USA, can be very expensive. The American Degree Transfer Programme (ADTP)enables you to begin your degree at Sunway University before transferring to a university of your choice in America to complete your studies. The ADTP covers up to 2 years of equivalent study before you transfer, allowing you to complete your American degree at nearly half of the cost. ”
Studying abroad gives you a real competitive edge when it comes to getting a job, helping you to truly stand out from the crowd. But it is much more than just an educational experience; the time you spend in America could well be the time of your life, as you will get to meet new people, immerse yourself in a different culture and visit places you have only before dreamed of.
The American education system provides a unique blend of rigorous academic study within a broad-based curriculum, designed to develop each student’s talents to the fullest. Many of our faculty have worked or studied in America, so they know just what it takes and can help and support you all the way. The ADTP at Sunway University has been helping students realise their dreams for over 25 years; during that time our graduates have gone on to some of the top-ranked universities, including Cornell University; Johns Hopkins University; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and New York University.
The ADTP strives to bring out the best in every student, through education of the highest level of excellence. We pride ourselves on student-centred learning, recognising that each student is an individual with an individual learning style. The latest technologies are harnessed throughout, to create the best possible environment for learning.
Although specifically designed to enable students to transfer to universities in America, some of our students decide they wish to complete their studies elsewhere. If you decide to go elsewhere, you will find that the ADTP is accepted throughout the world, including Canada, Europe and the UK, New Zealand and Australia.
