Haleakala Sunrise - During the sunrise, guests will see a spectacular display of colors as the sun rises from

beneath the cloud layer. Many guests will drive to the summit to see the sunrise and we do recommend arriving

45 minutes before the sunrise time to ensure you can locate parking and find a nice place to observe the sunrise.

As beautiful as this is, temperatures can be around freezing point with gusty winds. We like to recommend to

have a jacket and dress in warm clothes for this trip. It does take about 1 hour and 45 minutes to travel from

Kahului to the top of the Haleakala pending on conditions. Please drive carefully! Tours are also available.

Haleakala Sunset - Guests will be able to enjoy a beautiful sunset from the summit when conditions are

clear. It is quite common for there to be cloud build as the day goes along and at times seeing the sunset from

the summit can be hit or miss for this reason. Conditions during the evening are similar to sunrise and you

should always anticipate cold temperatures and gusty winds. Sunset tours are available for those interested.

Haleakala Daytime - Guests can expect less wind and warmer temperatures (50-70 degrees) along with

spectacular views into the crater during the daytime and it is common that you can see the clouds rolling into the

crater. Additionally to the spectacular colors of the earth, guests have the opportunity to see the entire island of

Maui along with neighboring islands including the Big Island of Hawai’i!

Hiking at Haleakala - For those guests looking to go hiking, there are many great places to check out re-

gardless if you are an avid hiker or not. Most of trails found at Haleakala are rather lengthy (several miles each

leg), though guests will often hike partially down in to the crater and return. It is about 4 miles from the Summit

down to the Haleakala Crater floor. For those guests looking for a shorter hike, one of the best views is on the

1/4 mile long trail at the Leleiwi Overlook. Don’t miss out on our Hiking Guide to Maui.

Tips When Visiting Haleakala - It is easy to see why so many people are fascinated by Haleakala. With

soaring summits, scenic overlooks, and spectacular colors, it is a very special place. Here are some tips to take to

help you enjoy the most of the Haleakala National Park:

Drive slowly through the National Park. In addition to tight turns, there is endangered wildlife found here.

Take your time when walking around. The air is very thin at 10,000ft elevation!

Bring a camera to capture this incredible Maui attraction

Use the address 30,000 Haleakala Highway, Kula HI 96790 on your GPS (add 30 minutes to reach summit)

There is a $15 entrance fee to access the National Park (subject to change).

Always bring warm layers of clothes as temperature change quickly here!
