    09 - Focus GroupsRoot Work Foundations focus is on the socio-economicallydisadvantaged groups ofwomen, youth and children. Keeping in view the overall socio-culturalfabric of the societyand the overall power imbalances and discriminations that exist at alllevels; the focus,amongst these groups, is again on most vulnerable and themarginalized ones. RWF alsofocuses on the inclusion of minorities and special groups such aswidows and physicallyimpaired persons and elderly people.10 - Geographical FocusThe Foundation's overall geographic focus is the province of Sindh.11 - Legal StatusRoot Work Foundation is a registered body. The Foundation isregistered under The

    Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) of Government ofPakistan. Theregistration number is 5763.

    13 - ManagementRoot Work Foundation is lead by its Executive Director who is theformal head of theorganization. The Executive Director reports to the Chairperson of theBoard of Directors

    (BoD) and is responsible for the overall management of theorganization.The Executive Director is supported by the manager programs andteam of coordinators /managers of different sections / programs of the foundation and they

    jointly form amanagement structure for the Foundation.

    14 - Partners & PartnershipsPartnerships are the heart-line of Root Work Foundation. TheFoundation refers asPARTNERS to all those individuals, communities, and organizationsand departmentswhich join hands for extending program interventions. Beneficiarycommunity, the linedepartments, national and international donors, the provincial

    governments, and other keystake holders from civil society are the best examples of Root WorkFoundations Partners.These partnerships help organization (financially and technically) toachieve its mission.Since its establishment in year 2002; Root Work Foundation hasremained privileged ingetting the opportunity to work with a number of diverse partners whonot only extendedfinancial support for various projects; but also adequately build thecapacity of

    developmental issues and challenges are concerned. Keeping thiscritical fact in mind; theorganization always tries to join all such forums and networks which

    directly link to itsmission and objectives. In this regard; the Foundation has joined thefollowing importantnetworks operating at local and international levels.

    16 - EXPERIENCE PORTFOLIOi - Experience in Education Sector...Root Work Foundation has remained engaged in education sector sinceyear 2004. TheFoundation has established a number of primary schools in differentproject areas and has

    also formed a number of parents education committees (PECs) andschool managementcommittees (SMCs).For the sustainability of the schools and its effective operations; RootWork Foundationalways uses the strategies such as the true community participation,public privatepartnerships and the formation and strengthening/capacity building ofPECs & SMCs.Root Work Foundation has established a total of about 73 primaryschools in diifferent

    districts. These schools have catered the primary education needs of2272 children inabout 73 villages. About 78 teachers are engaged in these schools tofulfill the educationalneeds of the primary students.

    ii - Experience in Gender & Women Empowerment Issues..Root Work Foundation is engaged in promoting gender equality andaddressing womenempowerment issues since its inception in year 2002. The Foundationsfirst ever project

    (year 2003) focused the issues of violence against women (VAW)particularly the issues ofhonor killing.Over the period of 8-9 years of rich experience of working on womenissues; theFoundation has well increased its conceptual understanding andknowledge of the issues ofmarginalized women and the women vulnerable to domestic violence.

    During its work on gender issues; the Foundation explored and workedwith a number ofcritical stakeholders who could be of great support as for as addressingthe issues ofgender and women empowerment particularly VAW is concerned. For

    example, theFoundation closely worked with School Teachers and MediaRepresentatives to increaseawareness and sensitize the local communities and administration foraddressing genderissues. Working with police officers was another successful approachthe Foundationsuccessfully tested.

    iii - Experience in Responding Natural Disasters..Root Work Foundation actively responds natural

    disasters and emergencies such as flood and earthquakeetc. The Foundation has been responding emergenciessince year 2004. During its engagement in variousdisaster response interventions; Root Work Foundationhas well skilled itself in designing and implementing therelief and early recovery interventions.

    Building capacity of partners and different stake holders is the crosscutting theme for allRWF core programs. Root Work Foundation has been involved incapacity building

    activities since year 2003.Root Work Foundation has conducted a large number of trainingworkshops for policeofficers, media representatives, school teachers local NGOs and CBOs,school managementcommittees, community groups, government officers, and projectteams of various projects.Over the period of 8 years; the Foundation has greatly developed itscapacity in designingand conducting different nature training and capacity building eventsfor different groups /

    stakeholders.The Foundation now itself designs and conducts training which caterthe capacity buildingneeds of its different partners and clients. Following is the details ofsome of the projects /assignments related to capacity building and institutional developmentwhich Foundationconducted during different periods for different groups.

    v - Experience in Physical Infrastructure Development...The Foundation has been intervening for the development ofcommunity physicalinfrastructure since year 2004. Root Work Foundation always tries todevelop and improve

    the local physical infrastructure which can help improve the livingconditions of the ruralcommunities.

    18 - Financial PortfolioRoot Work Foundation implements its projects with the grants / fundingfrom variousnational and international donors and government of the provincewhere it works. Thesegrants are usually time-bound and for specific project interventions.Root WorkFoundation has learnt a lot while managing grants of diverse donors

    and has welldeveloped its financial management capability. Since its establishmentin year 2002 till themid of year 2011; the organization has implemented about 29 projectsin differentgeographic areas and in different sectors amounting to over 400million rupees.19 - Approach & StrategiesThe Foundation strongly believes in the true and active participation ofall keystakeholders particularly the local communities or program

    beneficiaries.     Root Work Foundation has a core team with various professionalbackgrounds such asmanagement, finances and HR etc. In addition the RWF hires theproject staff as and whenrequired. The Foundation also engages volunteers and interns on need

    23 - Review & MonitoringMonitoring of projects in Root Work Foundation is always the importantand prioritymatter. There is always a built in mechanism of review and monitoring

    for all the projectsRWF implements. The processes of review and monitoring helpFoundation in achievingthe project objectives in smooth and timely manner. As the keymechanism of monitoring;the projects are monitored by the implementation teams; thecoordinators / managers ofthe program and the management of RWF.24 - Accounts & AuditsRoot Work Foundation maintains its all accounts on double entrysystem. Foundation has
