“Midway Christian Day” at Cane Ridge Shrine
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Midway Christian Church will visit Cane Ridge
Meeting House, as part of our 175th Anniversary Celebration, on Saturday,
September 28th.
The Cane Ridge Meeting House, built in 1791 in
what is now Bourbon County, Kentucky, was the
home of the Great Revival of 1801 where as many
as 25,000 people attended. Shortly thereafter, in
1804, a document was penned—”The Last Will and
Testament of the Springfield Presbytery”—which
was the beginning of the Disciples of Christ.
In 1957, a golden limestone structure was built around
the original log meeting house, in order to protect and
preserve the historic log building which is made primarily
of blue ash, oak and chestnut.
The grounds also include a museum full of artifacts related to the birth and
growth of Cane Ridge, and a graveyard with historic significance.

Food for the Soul (“Dinner Church,” includes a light supper & a simple communion)
Sunday, May 5th, 6:30 p.m. We will have dinner, watch a
Topic: KY Refugee Ministries film, and have Q & A.
Sunday, May 19th, 6:30 p.m.
Topic: “What is Pantsuit Politics?”
“When Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers started a political podcast in November 2015, they planned to discuss specific policies from their opposing perspectives, providing the nuanced conver-
sations they didn’t hear anywhere else. Instead, Pantsuit Politics, hosted by ‘Sarah from the Left’ and
‘Beth from the Right,’ is more often a discussion of deeper values than of specific policy positions. This project has grown since its inception, now with over three million downloads, and inspiring a second
podcast, ‘The Nuanced Life,’ which tackles other topics like families, careers, and relationships.”

Holy Humor Sunday—May 5th
History of Holy Humor Sunday: For centuries, the week following Easter Sunday was observed
by the faithful with days of joy and laughter, parties and picnics, practical jokes, singing, and
dancing to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. The Sunday following Easter was known as “Bright
Sunday,” “Laughter Sunday,” or “Holy Humor Sunday.” Early church theologians mused that
God played a practical joke on Death by raising Jesus from the grave.
You are invited to Holy Humor Sunday, May 5th, at 10:55 a.m. Come to sing, laugh, and share
testimonies of the resurrection experiences in your life. Spring forth from the cocoon and spread
your colorful wings in a relaxed, fun service of worship.
Preparing for Holy Humor Sunday:
We will have an upside-down worship service this day, beginning with the Postlude and Benediction and then
proceeding in order to end with Call to Worship and Prelude. We are doing this to remind ourselves that the
Empty Tomb turned our world upside-down in a good way. We are inviting everyone to come dressed in
colorful clothes reflecting the colors of a butterfly – a symbol of the resurrection. Bring personal stories/
testimonies to share how the resurrection has made a difference in your life; how you have come out of your
cocoon and emerged as a beautiful butterfly!
Stewardship Sunday - May 19th
Together, we give to financially support the ministries and programs that help
build up the Kingdom of God in our community and in our world. How much
money is spent? How is it spent?
The narrative of who we are as a church unfolds in Scripture, in the life of Jesus, and in the world. We live out
this story in many ways, including through the seven Christian Practices of: Worship, Education, Love, Commu-
nity, Open Table, Mission, and Evangelism.
These practices give us sacred containers within which we can place our financial resources so that this congre-
gation will be able to offer ministry and programming as we continue to live out God’s transforming love in so
many faith-filled ways.
The Admin Team is asking everyone to prayerfully consider how we will respond with our pledge cards to our
mission and story of WELCOME on Stewardship Sunday, May 19, 2019, as we estimate our giving for 2018-19.

From Room in the Inn Woodford County
“Our thanks to you and the Midway Ministerial Associa-
tion for the generous check we received! It had a huge
impact on paying soaring utility costs incurred by 99-for-1 Church,
as they offered not only warmth on cold nights when guests stayed,
but showers and laundry facilities as well. It allowed us to be open
additional nights that would not have otherwise been possible. We
are truly grateful for the help extended to us… We especially valued
our personal connection with you, Pastor Heather, and your heart-
felt sympathy for this work.”
From Christian Care Communities
“On behalf of the Board, staff, and residents of Christian
Care Communities, I would like to thank you for your gift of
$200.00 received on April 3, 2019. Your gift is critical in supporting
our ministry of caring for over 5,000 Older Adults in need…
Together, we can continue to build a legacy of caring for our
seniors—a community they can truly call home.”
From Global Ministries (to Disciples Women)
“Global Ministries thanks you for your gift in the amount
of $200. Generous gifts such as yours make a difference
in the vital work of Global Ministries and international partners.
From CCinKY for Camp Wakon’Da-Ho
“Please express our thanks to the members at Midway
Christian Church for the gift of $100 to the Christian Church (DoC)
in KY for Camp Wakon’Da-Ho. This over and above outreach gift
will help strengthen and expand our service to children, youth, and
adults. We appreciate the many ways that the church is involved in
witness and serves through the Christian Church in KY.”
