O holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, intercede with the merciful God, to grant our souls forgiveness

of sins.

The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Colossians. (4:5-11, 14-18)

Brethren, conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech

always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.

Tychicus will tell you all about my affairs; he is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow

servant in the Lord. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and

that he may encourage your hearts, and with him Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who is

one of you. They will tell you of everything that has taken place. Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets

you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions—if he comes

to you, receive him), and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only men of the circumcision among

my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. Luke the beloved

physician and Demas greet you. Give my greetings to the brethren at Laodicea, and to Nympha and

the church in her house. And when this letter has been read among you, have it read also in the church

of the Laodiceans; and see that you read also the letter from Laodicea. And say to Archippus, “See

that you fulfill the ministry which you have received in the Lord.” I, Paul, write this greeting with my

21) -. (10:16The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

The Lord said, “He who hears you hears Me, and he who rejects you rejects Me, and

he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.” The Seventy returned with joy, saying,

“Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Thy Name!” And Jesus said to them, “I

saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to

tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing

shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject

to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” In that same hour Jesus

rejoiced in the spirit and said, “I thank Thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,

that Thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to

babes; yea, Father, for such was Thy gracious will.”

التواضع تشبه حار بالمسيح. يقول الرب يسوع "تعلموا مني أنا الوديع والمتواضع القلب تجدوا راحة

الحقيقي حكمة وشجاعة، كما أن الصدق هو شجاعة يحصن الإنسان المسيحي نفسه بالتواضع. التواضع

وربح في النهاية. فضيلة بدون تواضع ليست بفضيلة حقيقية. محبة، مثلا، غير متواضعة ليست بمحبة

حقيقية. القديس دوروثاوس أسقف غزة، في كتابه الشهير "التعاليم الروحية"، يشبه التواضع بسور

ضع الحقيقي يمتحن بالتعييرات، بالافتراءات وبالظلم. "طوبى لكم إذا عيروكم وطردوكم وقالوا التوا

St. Luke the Apostle: This Apostle was an Antiochean, a physician by trade, and a

disciple and companion of Paul. He wrote his Gospel in Greek after Matthew and Mark, after which he wrote the Acts of the Apostles, and dedicated both works to Theophilus, who, according to some, was Governor of Achaia. He lived some eighty-six years and died in Achaia, perhaps in Patras, the capital of this district. His emblem is the calf, the third symbolical beast mentioned by Ezekiel (1:10), which is a symbol of Christ's sacrificial and priestly office, as Saint Irenaeus says.

St. Paisios of Mt. Athos: People want to feel joy, but one has to sacrifice in order for joy to come.

Joy is born of sacrifice. True joy arises from philotimo (good deeds, ambition to do good). If one

cultivates philotimo, his life becomes a constant feast-day! Man is tortured by egotism and self-love.

These are what causes man to trip and fall.” “Most people today have not tasted the joy of sacrifice

nor come to love hard work. Gone are philotimo and self-sacrifice. In their stead have come laziness,

easy solutions and much leisure.

Stewardship: Stewardship is the offering of one’s self as He (Christ) Himself was offered

to us. Stewardship is the caring for the needs of one another. Stewardship is being

devoted and totally committed to serve God and His church morally, spiritually,

physically, and financially as an individual and collectively as a family unit. To ask,

‘How much should I give to the Church so that Her essential mission may continue?’ is

perhaps not the correct question to ask at the beginning. Rather, the essential question

must be: ‘How much have I been given?’ What has Jesus Christ accomplished for me?

How much does the work of Christ and His Church mean to me? Honor the Lord with

your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled

with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine (Proverbs 3:9-10).

“Do not lay up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where

thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither

moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your

treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19-21). (Taken from the

people at the door, and help with chanting.

Food for The Hungry: We will be starting our Canned and non-perishable Food Drive. The drive will

continue until the end of the year. The non-perishable food will be distributed to local homeless

shelters. Father is looking for someone to be in charge of the Food Drive.

Sunday School News:

October 31st All Saints Party: We will have our first All Saints Party at the church on

October 31st from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Children will dress up as saints and join in a parade. No

demonic customs of devils, Satan etc. More details to come.

December 20th Christmas Play: at the Greek Church. More details to follow.

Teen Activities: October 18th Bowling after Liturgy.

St. Thekla Women’s Organization News: 2015-2016 Women Project: Help

Feed Hungry Children.

October 18th Monthly meeting after Liturgy. All ladies 18 years and older are expected to

attend so we can plan our upcoming events and fundraisers.

October 25th Monthly Lunch after Liturgy. The ladies are preparing a delicious thank giving

lunch. Please, support them.

Immigration Assistance: Please don’t call Antoinette from Catholic Immigration. Fr. George with

the help of Ghassan Singer (403)804-2750, and Hanan Saman (587)700-1194, will prepare a list of

names to be presented to Antoinette. Only immediate relatives like brothers, sisters and parents will

be presented. If you are a member of our community, you may speak to one of the following above

people. Father George will approve with his signature the final list to be presented. Thank you

Fasting: Orthodox people fast every Wednesday and Friday. Also, we fast before Holy Communion

starting at midnight unless you are taking medication or pregnant. See Father.
