The Kingdom Divided
• 924 B.C. : Solomon’s death– 10 northern tribes break away

• 612 B.C. - Babylonian kingdom replaces the Assyrian kingdom

• 585 B.C. – Temple in Jerusalem destroyed• 536 B.C. – 50,000 Jews return to Israel• 515 B.C. – 2nd Temple in Jerusalem built

The Samaritans
• A mixed heritage:– Those who escaped exile and remained in
Samaria– Those who were brought into the land
