matters. Most studies are based on video series,
which lead to very good class discussions.

Joymakers (All ages)
Meets: Classroom 1&2
East Wing basement
Contact: Mel Chastain
Joymakers is a group of 12 to 20 singles and couples,
aged 40’s to 70’s. Many of us are “empty nesters”,
with children who have grown up and left home to
start their own careers and families. Sessions begin
with fellowship and sharing of joys & concerns, then
our weekly study centers around viewing one of many
excellent video lessons, followed by discussion. Series
we have enjoyed include the NOOMA videos by Rob
Bell, a comparison of world religions by Adam
Hamilton, and numerous others. Discussions explore
ways in which the video topics apply to a variety of
our daily activities, or their impact on current events
in the news. Many in our group travel for business or
pleasure, and we find that basing our studies each
week on individual video presentations enable
individual class members to “come and go” from
week to week, without feeling at a disadvantage
because they may have “missed the last lesson”. All
are welcome to join us in Classrooms 1 & 2 in the
East Wing. We begin just after Fellowship time, about
10:05

Pathfinders (mid 20′s- 40+)
Meets: Alan Lee Center
Main Room
Contact: Jana and David Fallin
(776-5282)
Pathfinders seek God’s will for their lives through a
variety of studies. These include verse-by-verse
studies of a Biblical book, topical studies, Christian
books and video series. We have studied books
including To Kill a Mockingbird and Same Kind of
Different as Me, with teacher-designed lessons to
illustrate Christian principles and teachings taken
from the readings. Pathfinders Sunday School
classes use diverse learning opportunities including
TV shows, such as the Charlie Brown Christmas
Special and a National Geographic special on
Angola Prison in Louisiana to learn about
Christians who are influencing our world with the
message of Christ. Our DVD studies include ones
by Ray Vander Laan, Louis Giglio, and Francis
Chan. During our lessons we include small group
discussions, question-driven class discussion and
guest speakers.

Pathfinders (cont’d)
We have an active prayer ministry for our class and
for prayer requests that come to our attention. We
have witnessed many miracles during our 14 years
as a Sunday school. We have some beloved class
traditions, including a pancake breakfast before
Christmas where we watch the only Christmas show
filmed as part of the Andy Griffith TV series. As a
class we adopt a family every Christmas, providing
gifts for the children. We support our mission in
Anapra, Mexico, with people serving on the mission
teams, with financial support and by providing
supplies for the children in the school.
We are a class made up of many individuals with
many differing opinions, and we often agree to
disagree. The overarching theme of the class is: we
love Jesus because He first loved us, and we love
each other. Please join us any time.

Saints and Sinners (all ages)
Meets: Alan Lee Center
Classroom
Contact: Sue Rice
Saints and Sinners is an adult class of people who
enjoy learning about a variety of aspects of our
faith. We have visited the Holy Land through
videos and Bible studies with Ray Vander Laan,
considered various social issues with the help of
books and videos by Adam Hamilton, and learned
more about Easter and the week before Christmas
by reading books from Marcus Borg and John
Dominic Crossan.
We value our class discussions and learning from
each other. Fun get-togethers are also important to
this class! We gladly welcome anyone who would
wish to come on in!

Young Adult Class
Not Currently Meeting
Meets: HAC Auditorium
Contact: Pastor Patrick
We are looking for a leader who will guide and
sustain a class/classes for young adults. Special
focus could be put on college students, young
singles/married couples, or young parents.
A class for young adults looking to Connect to
Christ, Grow in Community, and Serve the World.
When you visit you will find great diversity: singles
and couples, those with kids and those without,
college students, grads, and those who decided
college wasn’t their thing. What you will find in
common are people who want to be part of the
future of the church and recognize their diversity as
a piece of the kingdom of God.

Study and Work group
This is a combined work and study group that meets
every Tuesday at 7pm in the Connecting Link to
have either a Bible study or a work project.
Projects have ranged from picking up trash at
Pillsbury Crossing to painting house trim for
someone who needed help. Studies have examined
important people in the Bible and what about their
story makes them important for our faith today. It is
a come and go kind of group where you can join
any week you have free.

Geezers
The Geezers meet on Tuesday mornings for coffee
and donuts around 8:30. Once everything pertinent
and insightful has been thoroughly discussed, Herb
lays out the mornings projects around the church.
On any given Tuesday morning you might help with
light bulbs, painting, landscaping, recycling, or any
number of things that go on behind the scenes of the
church to make the church run smoothly. The name
says it all but guests and geezers in training are
always welcome...maybe you will have just the gift
they’ve been looking for to do that one task that just
doesn’t seem to ever get done.

Gardening The church produces fresh organic vegetables to be
served at our weekly meal ministry. The garden is
embedded within the Manhattan Community
Gardens at Riley Lane. Many opportunities are
available throughout the year to build community
among new and experienced gardeners while
helping feed and teach people so they are less food
insecure.

Micah Society This group meets monthly on the fourth Monday at
6pm to fulfill all three areas of the FUMC mission
statement by discussing new and persistent justice
issues like: Poverty, Environmental Issues, Peace in
Israel/Palestine, Hunger, Health Care, Race, and
Immigration. Regardless of your political or
theological persuasion, we invite your voice to the
table to discuss our Christian response to resolving
these and many other justice issues. We
occasionally hold community forums activate the
community on a particular issue or to make known
throughout Manhattan issues that either don't get
talked about or get talked about despite being not
well informed. We need your voice to be as
informed as possible. So, if you are tired of just
fishing for others and want to teach people how to
fish, this may be a ministry for you!
