Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

Introduction Peter’s Autograph: Who was Peter?

Brother Andrew led him to Jesus Fisherman with James and John the sons of Zebedee During time of Jesus ministry lived in Capernaum with his wife and

mother in law. Leader of the Apostles and confessed boldly that Jesus was the Christ,

the Son of the living God Witnessed, raising of Jairus’s daughter, the transfiguration and saw

Mosses and Elijah, saw part of the Lords agony. Denied Jesus after proudly saying he would never even if others did,

was restored by Jesus after resurrection. Boldly preached Christ crucified and raised, healed the lame, raised

the dead. Was released from prison by an Angel. First to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles. Condemned to death on a cross like his teacher and savior.

earthly ministry. Part of Jesus inner circle and named first in lists of the 12 Apostles.

Empowered to perform miracles during the early church.

Audience: … exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and

Bithynia. Both Jewish and Gentile followers of Jesus. Dispersion (Dispora: Assyrian and Babylonian captivities ), Sojourners,

Strangers; Spiritual Aliens To those who are elect: Chosen (John 13: 18; Luke 10: 20; Matt 24:

22; John 6: 37-45) Foreknowledge (Prognosis) refers to Gods eternal, predetermined, loving and

saving intention. (Acts 2: 23) Sanctification of the Spirit: from start to finish the Holy Spirit

patiently brings us along the way until we enter heaven. …obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood…

Assurance of our salvation and entered into a covenant of obedience.

significant persecution was looming on the horizon.

5. Where is our security rooted in our salvation?

7. What is the result of our salvation?

The Question of Salvation

Romans 8: 14-15: For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
