Say Their Names: Victims of Seattle Police, 2010-2020At the invitation of Immaculate Conception Parish, in solidarity with Seattle’s Black community, we remember the people who have died at the hands of the Seattle Police Department over the last ten years. Each one was a son or daughter, and many were fathers and mothers. Each was a child of God, beloved by the Creator.

Use this opportunity to meditate on ways that you can contribute to a more just and peaceful society. Talk to your family about racism in America, and pray for the families of the victims. Not only must we remember them, but also realize that Seattle is no different than other American cities where Black folks, Indigenous folks, and People of Color, often unarmed, are killed by police. Say their names.

Invitation to Join in Solidarity with Victims of Police ViolenceSt. Joe’s is planning a public display of solidarity for victims of police violence. On the first weekend in Novem-ber, commemorating the Feast of All Souls, we will be placing thirty signs on the northeast lawn, each containing the name of a person killed by the Seattle Police Department.

Before the installation, we invite families to take a sign home with them and decorate the border of the signs with tasteful art and phrases of hope, healing, and solidarity. You can pick up the signs in the Vestibule during the times listed below, and drop them off in the Hospitality Room any time the church is open before Oct 26th. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. Young Adult Community Listening SessionYou’re invited to a Young Adult listening session, on Zoom, on October 21 from 7:30-8pm.

This might be the hardest time ever to get connected with other Young Adults as a new member of the commu-nity. We’d like to change that. The goal of this session is simple - we want to find out what’s working at St. Joe’s, what’s not, and how we can help.

We want to help you stay connected as we grow in our faith together and do our part to stop the spread of CO-VID. For example, we are looking into how we can safely and responsibly gather in small groups at the church.

We know many of you spend endless hours in front of a screen because of your work. But this Zoom call will have a direct, immediate impact on St. Joe’s plans for the Young Adult group. We really hope you will join us for this.

Children’s Faith Formation Sacramental Preparation for Older Children -- Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, Adapted for Children

For youth who are between 4th grade and high school, RCIA/C (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, Adapted for Children!) is the process "catching up" on missed Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist). Starting in January, St. Joseph will hold sessions once a week. This process may take place either in person or on Zoom, depending on the health guidance at the time. Youth will receive their sacraments during the Easter Season. To enroll your child in this program, please contact Claire Hansen at claireh@stjosephparish.org

First Communion Preparation (1st and 2nd grade Sacramental Preparation)

Preparation for First Communion is a 2-year process, beginning in 1st grade. For this fall's classes, the church classes will be offered every other week via Zoom and a parent or older sibling will be asked to attend. Our first class will be Oct. 18th on Zoom. Children’s Liturgy of the Word – worship.pastoral.center

This is an independent online service created with Catholic families in mind. It’s a bit more interactive than watching a Mass. There’s an opening and closing song with motions that the kids can sing/dance along to, the gospel reading (a kids version or the NAB translation,) a brief cartoon or video about the gospel aimed for young kids, reflection questions for the family to discuss together, and a time for intercessions, etc. Families that use it can follow all the elements, or pick and choose those parts that work best for their family and the ages of their kids. The services are offered for free and are posted a few days before each Sunday.

Con Corazón Virtual Concert from Arcatao, El Salvador

Con Corazón is hosting a free virtual concert with Tomas Enrique (a local celebrity in Arcatao) on October 24th! To register for this concert, visit: https://concorazon.org/en/events/

Con Corazón is a charitable project, begun by mem-bers of the Sister Parish Committee, (though not formally connected to the parish) to support locally-led efforts in Arcatao and Nueva Trinidad, El Salvador.

Safe Environment Training October 26th

Safe Environment training is being offered October 26th, 6:30pm-9pm, via zoom. This is a required train-ing for those working with the youth at the school and parish. This training includes instructions on how to report abuse, and also how to help prevent abuse of minors. To register, create an account at virtusonline.org. Financial UpdateMonthly Budget: As you can see, beginning in September, we are starting to track under budget for ordinary in-come. Some of the offering usually collected at Mass is being made up by higher monthly online donations, but we are still short for each week. If you have not yet signed to up give monthly, please consider doing so. We will keep coming up with creative ways to reach out, as we continue to support each other during these challenging times.

ACA & Called to Serve: Thanks to all of you who donated, and thanks to the hard work of our new Assistant for Stewardship, Mary Wiseman, we reached our ACA Goal.

Up next in our bumpy 2020 road is the Called to Serve as Christ campaign. Everyone should have received their packet in the mail. This is an important campaign and we will be able to see some capital improvements on campus as part of our 15% parish kickback. In order to complete the campaign, we need 30% participation. We are asking that even if you are unable to give at this time, please mark your card with a prayer and send it in.
