ST. MARY’S BOOK OF LIFE Beginning Nov. 1, All Saints Day, and continuing throughout the month of November, The Book of Life will be placed in the sanctuary. A candle, representing the new and eternal life we have in Christ, will burn beside it. Parishioners are invited to write the names of deceased family and friends in our Book of Life so that they may be remembered, as a group, at each Mass offered in our parish and in the daily Rosary prayer throughout the month of November.

--------------------

May they rest in Peace! We profess every Sunday our faith in the Church as the Communion of the Saints. We understand that the Communion of the Saints is the union of the members who have passed on and had been admitted to heaven (Church Triumphant), those who passed on and must expiate for their sins in purgatory (Church Suffering), and those who are still living in this world (Church Militant). There is a strong bond between all the members of the Church who support each other. This is why the Church always had special respect for departed brothers and sisters. We pray for them animated by our faith in the resurrection promised us by our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the fundamental element of our faith. We believe: “Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.” Sometimes the death is unexpected and sudden but very often we can predict its arrival. If you would like the priest to come and console you with the prayer please makes sure to contact the office in advance. Pastors have many various responsibilities and may not be able to answer to a short notice call. If your loved one is in the Brantford General Hospital you need to invite a priest giving him a detailed information about the patient, their name and the ward and room number. Religious ministers may not be allowed to obtain this kind of information from the BGH staff. There is always a priest on-call that the staff can invite when your pastor is not available. The Sacrament of the Sick is designed to console and give peace to those who suffer. It is not called anymore the “last rites”. It is not the anointing we receive before we die that decides where we will go after death but the actions of our life and our faith. There are many prayers that priest can offer when faced with the family that encountered death. As the Parish Community, we constantly remember our deceased parishioners and benefactors - - There are Mass intention offered for deceased, you can contact the office to book one, - Once a week the pastor offers special Mass for the living and the dead parishioners - Once a month at the Holy Hour on Friday we pray for deceased - There is a “Book of the Living” displayed in November, anyone can add the names - During November at all Masses, we remember all our departed - Below the statue of St. Joseph in the sanctuary there is a board with names of recently deceased “See you in Heaven” - We invite mourning families to the Bereavement Mass and fellowship in December The Mass intentions for the deceased are listed in our weekly bulletin. Please check current bulletins that is also available from our website. The daily mass schedule can be modified sometimes so please check the schedule before heading to church. The Mass is said for the intention weather the priest announced it or not. We apologize for misspelling of names which sometimes happens in case of some foreign names. In case of any errors on our side

please contact the office and we will be happy to work this out with you. You can also remember your loved ones by making a donation “In Memoriam”. You are welcome to support some of the church needs, purchase an item, donate flowers etc. We can help you to find the best way to express your feelings. Please consulate your wish with the office before making the contribution. We will make sure that the name of your loved one will be displayed at the certain place in the church or published or in our bulletin. There is a general rule in our Diocese regarding eulogies endorsement for the dead. They are allowed in the funeral home, at the interment or at the reception afterwards. Whatever thoughts about your loved one you have you can pass them to the pastor who will be guiding you through the preparation for the church liturgy. We don’t make funeral announcements at Sunday masses or other masses. Some remarks may happen occasionally when there is a request from a family or in case of a sudden death of a current parishioner, who was involved in the community life. It is at the discretion of the pastor to decide on this. There are many parishioners and even founders of our church who moved out and became members of other parishes and we are usually not informed of their passing. We welcome all information so that we can include their name into our prayers. In respect to funeral arrangements we rely on the professional assistance of a funereal home who also provides public announcements according to a family wish in local mass media.
