Usher Schedule / December 2013

Here is the ushering schedule for December 2013. Please mark your calendars. Ushers

should be there 15 minutes prior to the start of the service to assist with bulletins, etc.

KFC News

We completed our rotation “Moses and the Ten Commandments” and now we are

gearing up for the Christmas Program. Practice dates and times have been posted in the

bulletins and are also in this newsletter. This year our program is titled “Christmas in

Black & White”. It is very important the children show up for as many practices as

possible. Also if you are interested in helping with the program please contact Vicky or

myself.

Throughout the month of December the KFC will continue with the Ten

Commandments and learning their meanings along with learning the songs for the

Christmas program.

We also have decided to do something fun for the four Sundays prior to Christmas which is also our

Advent season. On Sunday December 1st was Elf Sunday, children will wear something to do with an elf.

Sunday, December 8th, is Packer Sunday, we will be wearing our favorite Packer Shirt. Sunday, December

15th, is; wear your ugly Christmas sweater, and Sunday 22nd, wear Christmas colors, (red and green) or your

favorite Christmas outfit. Pastor has agreed to have children’s sermon based on these themes. We also thought

it would be fun for the congregation to participate with these dress up themes. Hope you will join the fun.

There will be no Sunday School Sunday, December 29th and Sunday, January 5th, due to the Christmas

and New Year Holidays. KFC will resume Sunday, January 12, 2014 with the parable “The Prodigal Son.”

As always I am looking for workshop leaders and if you are interested please contact me in church or

call 608-415-3910.

Wishing you a Safe and Merry Christmas to all and will see everyone in the New Year.

A note from Mike…

Call Update: The council has picked a few names for the call committee and will be

asking them if they would interested in these positions. We have 3 viable candidates for the

interim pastor.

Farewell Party: Pastor’s last Sunday will be December 29, 2013. We are planning a

potluck dinner party after the church service.

Christmas is one of the most exciting times for children and it should be for all of us as

well. This is when God showed how much he loved us all by sending his Son to us. Luke 2:

10-11, But the angel said to them. Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that

will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is

Christ the Lord.

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and has a blessed Christmas.

Your Friend in Christ

Pastor’s (last) Page ~ December 2013

As my last “last whatevers” approach, it is hard to NOT indicate as such…Examples: my last Pastor’s Page, last Sermon, last Cat Class, last Christmas, last Saturday service, last picking hymns weekend …etc. It further impacts on me – as this may be my last whatever EVER …because I am retiring, not just moving to a different parish setting with similar duties & expectations. Running for Assembly – with the possibility of being elected and having several years consumed by different responsibilities – gives a further sense of “finality” in my heart & on my mind as I prepare to do any…last…task. It is also an opportunity to share things I may have held onto for a “last occasion”. Case in point =

Did you hear the one about…the young pastor had announced to his congregation that he would be LEAVING the church to accept a new call to a different church? After worship he greeted people at the door. One elderly, sainted female member approached the pastor with tears in her eyes. She sobbed: “Oh Pastor, I’m sorry you’ve decided to leave. Things will never be the same again.” The young pastor was flattered of course, but he rose to the occasion. He took her hand tenderly in both his hands and in his most benevolent and pastoral voice said: “Bless you, dear, but I am sure God will send you a new pastor even better than I.” She choked back tears…as she began to walk away…she was heard to say… “That’s what they always say, but they keep getting worse.”

Just enjoy that – I won’t try to ease my way into my next topic through it. That new “topic” is about funerals we have shared here over the last 9½ years. Among members, it has been about 45 total. Some were infants, some teenagers, some parents or grandparents, some spouses & others sibs. Death has SEPARATED families and couples AND funerals have also RE-UNITED four couples that were separated while I have been here: (in other words, I had BOTH spouses funeral)

Bernhart and Ella Mae Froehlich Roger and Lorraine Kerschke Carl and Rosie Lichte…and, most recently: Ervin and Sylvia Stolte.

There were about 15 other deaths ~ whose funerals were here during my time – that Re-United previously separated–by–death couples. Lastly, I have seen the FIRST LIST I was given by Shirley Albers when I arrived. It was a list of 20 Shut-In members to Visit and Commune regularly. Two of them were 100 years old or older…in 2004. Now there is only ONE still surviving from that list. The others have all died and await our arrival & grand reunion on the Other Side for Eternity.

Such are some of my reflections at a time like this. We have shared in many highs & lows of life and living, we’ve shared trials, tragedies and triumphs together. And STILL we put our HOPE and TRUST in the Gospel we hear at Funerals and on Sunday mornings & Saturday eves. It is a wonderful life we have shared. I have been honored & humbled that you have invited me into your individual lives as well as your congregational life. God has blest us richly during these nine and half years. Thanks be to God…for another of the many Blessings we GIVE THANKS for in this Harvest season.

As I say in one of my funeral sermons ~ this is now the time to say the SIX LAST THINGS we need = I Love You, Thank You, I’m Sorry, I Forgive You, Goodbye & See you on the Other Side. PrC
