Every day of the year, the Church celebrates our Blessed Mother, but we focus on her in a special way during the month of May. There are numerous books in our church library to help you know and under-stand Mary better. A few suggestions are: • Hail, Holy Queen, by Scott Hahn is “a fresh

and enlightening new perspective on Mary, Mother of God, and her central importance in the Christian faith.”

• Mary and Your Everyday Life: A book of Meditations by Bernhard Haring

• The World's First Love by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen “With his characteristic eloquence and brilliance, Fulton Sheen presents a moving por-trayal of the Blessed Virgin Mary that combines deep spirituality with history, philosophy and theology. Mary's whole life is lovingly portrayed in this word portrait that is a never failing source of information, consolation and inspiration.”

The Mt. St. Francis Community Garden opened on May 2nd and we have several open plots for an-yone that would like to try their hands and garden-ing. This year’s gardening season should be better than ever before. Several improvements were made to the garden this year. All of the water piping and hose bibs were replaced several large rocks and boulders were removed as well as three dead trees. There is a designated area for Compost in the south east corner of the garden. Each garden plot is ap-proximately 350 sq. feet, the cost is $60.00 for the season, checks should be made payable to The Sis-ters of Saint Francis. The remaining garden plots are on a first come first serve basis. Garden appli-cations and Garden Rules can be obtained by e-mailing Steve Heare ([email protected]).

Meet Sister Bernice Preister: She was born in 1928 in Humph-rey, NE and has an identical twin sister. She attended St. Francis High School in Humphrey where the Sisters of St. Francis taught, graduating in 1946; shortly after that she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Denver, CO, receiving

the Franciscan habit in 1947. She achieved a BA de-gree from Duchesne College in Omaha and a MA degree from Creighton University. As a primary teacher she taught for 49 years in New Mexico, Kan-sas and Nebraska; kindergarteners were her love and joy. After retiring from teaching she ministered to the elderly in Humphrey for nine years and then moved to Mount St. Francis in 2005. She has a flour-ishing hobby of embroidering and enjoys adult color-ing books. Her current ministry as a resident in Mount St. Francis Nursing Center is prayer and pres-ence and participating in Adopt a Sister ministry.

12 YEARS OF SUMMER FUN AT ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Totus Tuus 2016 We are pleased to announce the TOTUS TUUS summer program will be back for the 12th consecutive year. To celebrate the success of this awesome program we are offering to waive the registration fees to currently registered (on/before Jan. 2016) parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Colorado Springs. The funds to waive the regis-tration fees come from the recent successes of the annual silent auc-tion fundraiser.

TOTUS TUUS program calls upon college students and seminarians from across the United States to teach and inspire our kids. A TOTUS TUUS teacher helps to make the faith real to young people as a way of life and love not simply a set of rules and obligations.

ELEMENTARY...During the week the children will have fun classroom catechesis, supervised outdoor activities, prayer, skits, songs, attend daily Mass, learn the Mass parts and liturgical songs. All this will keep your kids excited and entertained.

YOUTH...Vibrant, faith-filled, college-aged teachers can effectively impact the middle and high school youth. The program includes instruction, games, small group discussions, skits, prayer, and fellowship. Middle and high school classes are separate.

Complete and return the registration form available on the opposite side of this flyer or on www.stfranciscs.org

For further info contact Jennifer Lehrman at 599-5031 ext. 108 or e-mail: [email protected]
