It was a victory 37 years in the making and well worth the wait as American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) completed his Triple Crown sweep with an emphatic 5 1/2-length victory over Frosted (Tapit) in front of thousands of adoring fans in Saturday=s GI Belmont S. at Belmont Park. Off a half-step slow from stall five as the 3-5 favorite, American Pharoah was able to establish an early and easy advantage with an opening quarter-mile in :24.06 with Materiality (Afleet Alex) close in tow, but--more surprisingly-- Frosted and Keen Ice (Curlin) and Mubtaahij (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire})--in attendance. Well within the grasp of Victor Espinoza, the Zayat homebred took them into the final mile after four furlongs in :48.83 and covered half the journey in 1:13.41. Still traveling with supreme authority and apparently impatient of Espinoza=s restraint, American Pharoah glided into the far turn and imperiously shrugged off Materiality and Keen Ice. Frosted--momentarily caught behind rivals--looked his only threat, but it was short-lived. To the crescendo of the 90,000 strong on hand, American Pharoah cut the corner for home under mostly hand urging and built up an unassailable advantage into the final furlong, coming home with a final quarter in :24.32 to create history on Long Island. An emotional trainer Bob Baffert, who was saddling an incredible fourth potential Triple Crown winner in Saturday=s Belmont, said, ADown the backside, he was in his groove, and I knew that if he=s a great horse, he=s going to do it. He's just a great horse. It takes a great horse to do it. I just feel like I have a very special horse, and he=s the one that won. It wasn't me, it was the horse.@ After the historic victory, Espinoza paraded the champ the length of the grandstand to a thunderous ovation from the Belmont faithful, who witnessed racing=s 12th Triple Crown winner and its first since Affirmed completed the treble in 1978. AWow, wow, I only can tell you,@ Espinoza said. AIt's just an amazing thing. It's just unbelievable how things work out. AI can=t believe I have won the Derby again,@ a typically ebullient Frankie commented. AIt=s what dreams are made of and in the last 100 yards I was numb. I knew he was a good horse and I can=t get to the bottom of him--I couldn=t stop him after the race and he=s an unbeaten horse who has won the Derby, so it doesn=t get any better.@ Dettori also gave credit to Gosden. Honor Code Romps in Met Mile

Perhaps the only thing that could overshadow Honor Code (A.P.Indy)’s scintillating performance in the GI Metropolitan H. was aTriple Crown victory. The ‘TDN Rising Star’ was well beaten inthe early going, but unleashed a powerful stretch rally to win theWin and You’re In event for the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile by anexpanding 3 3/4 lengths. Last year’s GI Belmont S. winner Tonalist(Tapit) was second. “We're tickled to death with the effort,” saidwinning trainer Shug McGaughey. “He's been a special horse allalong.”

Jubilant Connections... Owner Ahmed Zayat and his son and racing managerJustin Zayat were jubilant in the winner=s circle afterAmerican Pharoah=s historic victory. AThis is surreal,@exclaimed Justin Zayat. Asked to describe the feeling,Ahmed Zayat, a transplanted Egyptian living in NewJersey, said simply, AElation. Exuberance. This is allabout the horse. I said before he was a good horse, aspecial horse. Now he goes down as a legend.Greatness has been defined.

SAY WHAT? AMy horse ran great, but the horse everybodyexpected to win won the race. My horse ran reallygreat and we got second place. It's exciting becausewe have not seen this for so long and the winner reallylooked brilliant. My horse showed that he is a reallynice horse and there will be lots of races down the roadfor my horse.@ Joel Rosario, aboard runner-up Frosted

AThe horse was perfect. My horse ran his race. It=s anamazing thing to be a part of. Bob Baffert is thegreatest trainer of all time. My hat=s off to him.Congratulations to the Zayats.@ Dale Romans, trainer of third-place finisher Keen Ice

AAmerican Pharoah is a monster. He's a very nicehorse. He's a freak. We haven't had a Triple Crownwinner in years. He's a great horse. I tried to be closeto him. I kept following him and my horse ran very, very good. We had no excuses. The best horse won therace.@ Irad Ortiz, aboard fourth-place finisher Mubtaahij

AAmerican Pharoah was much the best horse in thefield. I give him all the credit in the world. We havebeen waiting 37 years to see this. It's great for thesport and the fans.@ Javier Castellano, aboard sixth-place finisher Madefromlucky

AHe ran a hell of a race. That=s a hell of a horse. Therace was over in the third jump from the gate, it wasover. It=s great to come back to a screaming crowd in ahappy way instead of booing. It's a pretty coolmoment.@ Gary Stevens, aboard seventh-place finisherTale of Verve

AWe were going slow enough, with those fractions, but I just didn=t have anything. I was in trouble as soonas we got to the backstretch. American Pharoah is agreat horse, that's the only way you can describe him.My horse ran as good as he could but he was doneearly. The best horse won the race. He's obviously agreat horse to do all the things he's done race afterrace, you have to take your hat off to him.@ JohnVelazquez, aboard eighth-place finisher Materiality

Littleprincessemma and her weanlingfull-brother to American Pharoah, IrishPharaoh. Michele MacDonald photo

Zayat Homebred a Runner from the Start... From the second crop of 2009 GI Kentucky Derbyrunner-up Pioneerof the Nile (Empire Maker), AmericanPharoah was bred by Zayat Stables, but seemedunlikely to race for his breeder when going through thering at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale in 2013. OwnerAhmed Zayat hadsecond thoughtsabout letting go ofthe bay colt, out of amare,Littleprincessemma(Yankee Gentleman),named after hisdaughter. He boughtthe yearling back for$300,000. American Pharoahquickly proved it wasa wise decision, breaking his maidenby a front-running 43/4 lengths in the GI Del Mar Futurity in his second tripto the post. That effort was followed by a dazzlingscore in the GI FrontRunner S. An untimely injury kept American Pharoah out of theGI Breeders= Cup Juvenile, but Eclipse voters still namedhim the year=s top 2-year-old.

American Pharoah served notice he would be a forceto be reckoned with in the sophomore decision as well, flying to devastating victories in the Mar. 14 GII RebelS. and Apr. 11 GI Arkansas Derby. Zayat was already a three-time Derby runner-up whenAmerican Pharoah went postward as the 5-2 favorite inthis year=s Run for the Roses, but the Egyptian=shomebred proved fourth time lucky with a hard-foughtone-length victory on the first Saturday in May. An epicrain storm just minutes before post time in the GIPreakness S. provided extra drama in Baltimore twoweeks later, but American Pharoah splashed homeunhindered and headed to New York as the 14th horsein the last 37 years with a chance to sweep the TripleCrown. Days after his Preakness victory, it wasannounced that powerhouse Coolmore had securedbreeding rights to the speedy colt. Zayat sold Littleprincessemma, carrying a full-siblingto American Pharoah, for $2.1 million to Frank andJane Lyon=s Summer Wind Farm at the Fasig-TiptonNovember sale last year. The mare foaled a Pioneerofthe Nile colt Feb. 13 and was bred back to leading sireTapit.

Honor Code was unrushed out of the gateand settled at the rear of the field as Private Zonezipped out to set the early pace. Private Zone was soonjoined by an eager Bayern (Offlee Wild), who stumbledat the break before rushing up and forcing Bay of Plenty(Medaglia d=Oro) to take up sharply as he bullied hisway to press the early leader. Private Zone and Bayernblitzed through fractions of :22.42 and :44.92, whileHonor Code was detached from the main body of thefield by as many as a half-dozen lengths. JavierCastellano began to niggle at Honor Code turning forhome, but he was still some 10 lengths back of PrivateZone who took a clear lead into the lane. Tamarkuz(Speightstown) was first to take aim on the pacesetter, moving to challenge after three-quarters in 1:08.74.The ultra-game Private Zone turned back that foe, onlyto have last year=s GI Belmont S. winner Tonalist takeup the chase, but it was Honor Code flying fastest ofall on the outside. The regally bred bay took charge in aflash and stormed clear to an authoritative victory.

Wedding Toast continued a very good weekend for>TDN Rising Stars= with a reasonably easy defeat ofreigning 3-year-old filly champion Untapable in theOgden Phipps, a AWin and You=re In@ event for the GIBreeders= Cup Distaff at Keeneland Oct. 30.

Accorded >Rising Star= status with a 14 1/2-lengthallowance victory going this track=s one-turn mile inSeptember 2013, Wedding Toast closed the season

with a pair of black-type successes, including the GIIIComely S. Runner-upto Princess of Sylmar(Majestic Warrior) inthe Cat Cay S. in asingle start at fourlast season, thehomebred wasvictorious in the Jan.7 Miami Shores H.

before finishing third to House Rules in the GIII RampartS. at Gulfstream Feb. 21. Fourth to Princess Violet(Officer) in the seven-furlong GI Madison S. atKeeneland Apr. 4, Wedding Toast was entering thePhipps off a four-length defeat of Princess Violet in thistrack=s one-mile GII Ruffian S. May 9. While it appeared on paper that Princess Violet hadthe necessary speed to lead, Wedding Toast ambled tothe front when it became apparent that the Schwartzrunner was not being sent and got an opening quarter-mile in a modest :23.64, as Untapable was settled fourdeep under a confident John Velazquez. The chalk wasgiven her cue leaving the half-mile pole and gainedsteadily on the turn, but was trapped out deep, whileWedding Toast was still enjoying a comfortable time ofit on the engine and got to the five-sixteenths marker in1:10.28. The Godolphin runner turned for homecomfortably in front, went further clear into the finalfurlong and cruised home an easy winner. Untapablewas all out to just save second from House Rules whilecovering 38 feet (about 4.4 lengths) more than thewinner, according to Trakus. "I thought Princess Violet would go and I'd be sittingsecond with Untapable in third, but nobody wanted togo,@ Lezcano admitted. AMy filly went to the lead veryeasily. She just galloped along, and when I asked her,she gave me the kick I needed to win the race." It was the first Grade I success for Wedding Toast, who was produced by an unraced half-sister to MGISWCongaree (Arazi) and SW & GISP Sangaree (AwesomeAgain).

"We didn't think there was a lot of speed in there,@trainer Mark Casse said. AMy biggest concern was Ithought the turf was pretty soft. When you saw thesprinters going 1:09 and change, it's soft. Brian DiDonato: Princess Violet (-$50) got a puzzlinglypassive ride, and stopped to fifth as Wedding Toast gotthe trip I was looking for and aired... Bar of Gold (-$175) broke slow with along with winner Curalina(great pick, Steve), was headstrong throughout andfaded after moving sort of ominously on the turn. Ithink she=ll make some noise going forward... PhotoCall (-$250) just had an impossible trip from the start, getting hung widest of all throughout behind modestfractions... I=ll admit, I wasn=t too happy with HonorCode (+$1242.50) early in the Met Mile, but heabsolutely inhaled that field in a monster performance...Magic Artist (-$100) seemed to be traveling well early, but came up empty when it mattered... Frosted (-$250)had to settle for second-best to American Pharoah, whonever looked like anything but the winner. What exactlywas the plan there for Materiality? Final Bankroll:$1417.50. Net: +$417.50.

Steve Sherack: Rosalind (-$50) clunked up to be a well-beaten fourth after trailing the field of six for most ofthe way... Curalina (+$1080) ran the race of her lifeafter an absolutely brutal start. What an awesomeperformance... Lady Lara (-$150) turned in a decentlate run into a very slow pace to round out thesuperfecta at 12-1... Apparently if Bayern (-$225)doesn=t have things his own way up front early, he isn=tthe same animal. Very disappointing. Tip of the cap tothe brilliant Honor Code (as well as DiDonato), for oneof the greatest performances in the history of the MetMile... Big Blue Kitten (-$200) just left himself too muchto do at a very overbet 3-1 to rally for second behindhis stablemate. This one stung a little bit more afterkeying in on Slumber last time... I=ve never been morehappy in my life after making a huge bet on a horse(Materiality {-$225}) that ran up the track... Is this agreat game or what?! Final Bankroll: $1230. Net:+$230.

A Golden Moment (cont. from p1) Making his debut in the mile maiden at Nottinghamthat honors the 1999 Derby hero Oath (Ire) (Fairy King)in late October, Golden Horn overcame a tardy startand greenness to beat Storm the Stars (Sea the Stars{Ire}) by a head in what would prove an eerie portent ofbigger things to come. Returning from his winter breakto contest Newmarket=s Listed Feilden S. over ninefurlongs at the Craven meeting Apr. 15, the homebredwent into all notebooks when winning that early Derbypointer in comfortable fashion from two colts inPeacock (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) and Disegno (Ire) (FastnetRock {Aus}) who have subsequently underlined thequality of the contest. Nine days after that likeableperformance, his barnmate Jack Hobbs flashed hisawesome talent at Sandown, and Golden Horn wasdemoted to Clarehaven second string and was desertedby Frankie Dettori when their paths inevitably crossedin the Dante. Despite Jack Hobbs being caught wideand tending to over-race in that all-important 10-furlongprep, there was little reason to believe that theGodolphin acquisition could reverse form with GoldenHorn, who had brushed him aside so readily on theKnavesmire, and the fates conspired in Dettori=s favorwith Buick called upon to ride in the royal blue. Keeninitially, Golden Horn was soon able to relax as theover-exuberant Dante third Elm Park (GB) (PhoenixReach {Ire}) contrived with Ballydoyle=s G3 ChesterVase winner Hans Holbein (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}) to set afurious tempo. Lobbing along with three behind as hisrider put a bullseye on Buick=s back just ahead, he wasshaken up to pursue that rival, who had cruised downTattenham Corner looking for all the world as if he wasto provide a first Derby win in the Godolphin blue. AsJack Hobbs struck the front with a quarter mile left, hislead proved short-lived, with Golden Horn delivering thesame rush as he had at York to quickly subdue him.Despite hanging left towards the rail as the camberinterfered with his natural speed, he was driven out tohammer home his authority and spread out the field asonly a class act can in this race. AHe was quite keen early and I thought Frankiedropped him out beautifully,@ Gosden said. AThe lastthing I said to him was ride a cool race and he did. He=sa proper horse and Jack [Hobbs] has run the mostsuperb race, too. He was beautifully balanced byWilliam down the hill into the straight and ran a blinder, and all being well he can go to Ireland [for the G1 IrishDerby at The Curragh June 27].@ AThe Dante form has held up solidly and they went areal pace,@ the conditioner added. AFrankie didn=t panicwhen they were so far ahead of him and stuck to theplan to ask him inside the two.

AGolden Horn does have that ability to really quicken, but he=s still learning and you have to remember he=sstill tender,@ Gosden continued. AHe=s got Cape Cross=smind, just like Sea the Stars--very relaxed--and that=squite important. He was a little round butterball of ahorse when he first came and very luckily he wasunsold, as they wanted 200 for him, but he=s grownand strengthened. He=s in very good form, so we maylook at the G1 Eclipse S. [at Sandown July 4] becausehe=s not going to Ireland. There=s no need for the twoto meet again until the autumn, and I=d be quite happyif they do then.@ Of the partnership with Dettori, Gosden said, AIt=sbeen a long journey with Frankie and it=s great to behere. It=s not an easy race to win and it=s lovely to winit with him. He=s still riding at the height of his powers, but he was in the wilderness for 18 months as he wastrying to ride formula two cars in formula one races. Towin this race is everything to me, it=s the one I alwayswanted to win as a kid.@ Oppenheimer, who owns Hascombe and ValiantStuds near Newmarket, was overjoyed after seeing his,75,000 supplementary entry fee rewarded withsuccess. AIt=s such a thrill and we can hardly believe it,@he said. AI have to thank all my staff at the stud, whoare watching on television. In particular I want to thankRoy Gedge, my former stud groom who retired about18 months ago. He brought this horse into the world. It=s been my ambition to breed and own a Derbywinner. My father [Sir Philip] was very keen on racingand breeding and I joined him some 30 to 35 years ago,but we have been trying longer than that. My fatherraced a horse called Pelerin in the Derby--he was left atthe start but finished fourth. We=ve made up for thatnow, and it=s more exciting because we=ve been tryingfor so long. I=m not getting any younger.@ Epsom hosted a crowd of 125,000 Saturday, themost of any single-day sporting event in British history.

Harry’s Luck... There was a large slice of fortune for NorelandsStud=s Harry McCalmont, who had purchased the dam,Fleche d=Or (GB) (Dubai Destination), for just62,000gns at Tattersalls a year before Golden Hornwas led out unsold. Oppenheimer said, AYou cannotkeep all the horses you breed and every so often youhave to move a mare on. I sold her to Harry, who is agood friend, so I don=t mind at all. He must be over themoon.@ McCalmont was understandably delighted andsummed it up by saying, AI feel as though we have justwon the lottery. Fleche d=Or is only nine, and her firstfoal, a filly called Eastern Belle, was second in a GradeII in America last night [GII New York S. at Belmont],beaten just half a length. Then she produced GoldenHorn, followed by a Champs Elysees filly we sold toJoe Foley last year and who is now in training withWilliam Haggas. We have an Acclamation yearling fillyat home that we are keeping, and while she did nothave a foal this year, she is back in foal to Shamardal.Mr. Oppenheimer has a lot of members of the familyand Fleche d=Or was the only one that had not won.We were very lucky to be in the right place at the righttime to buy her.@

Honor In Defeat... William Buick was trying to keep the disappointmentof missing out on the winning ride back and did so withhumility as hepondered the effortof Jack Hobbs. AIt=sall come very quickfor him and he=ll bea lovely horse intime,@ he said. AHeran a great raceand they are twolovely horses. Onthe day the winnerwas just better in asmooth race. Heran his heart out, but I knew when I pressed the buttonthat Frankie would be on my tail. You=d have to lookforward to him for the rest of his career and I=m farfrom disappointed to be second.@ John Ferguson wason hand to reflect on the run of the new Godolphinpurchase and commented, AAs we said when webought into the partnership, it is all about the future. Alltoday has done is told us that the future is reallyexciting because the Dante form has held up so well. His pedigree makes him even more exciting because hecan become a globe-trotter. Jack Hobbs is going to getbetter and his physique suggests he will be a horsewho just continues to improve. The Irish Derby is thelikely target if he comes out of this race all right.@ William Haggas, who also trains for the winningowner, was delighted with the effort of Storm the Starsand said, AI=m delighted for Anthony Oppenheimer whohas been at it a long time with this breeding game andto breed one with a great turn of foot like that isfantastic. As for Storm The Stars, I=m thrilled to bitswith him. He ran great; he was well ridden and hestayed on well. Though a successful breeder across decades, with hisHascombe & Valiant Studs= alumni includingFootstepsinthesand (GB), Rebecca Sharp (GB) and MissKeller (Ire), Anthony Oppenheimer has made no secretof the fact that winning the Derby is his lifetime=sambition. AIt=s what we all aspire to as owner-breeders. Thiscould be my chance,@ he said recently in an interview inThoroughbred Owner & Breeder, and yet staminareservations about Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire})meant that the colt wasn't even entered for the Derbyat the traditional yearling stage. As a son of the milerCape Cross, and hailing from a family boasting its fairshare of Classic milers, Golden Horn would finally forcehis way into the Derby reckoning with his staying-onvictory in the G2 Dante S. in May, the resolution withwhich he hit the line--along with his equabletemperament--giving his owner cause to part with,75,000 to supplement the colt. The betting publicstayed faithful, sending him on his way to the post atEpsom as the 13/8 favorite, accompanied by theportentous and patriotic strains of Land Of Hope AndGlory from the regimental brass band on the track. For once in hisshort racing life ofjust four starts,Golden Horndecided to attemptto defy his jockey=swishes by taking astrong hold in theearly stages, butthe wise old race-riding head ofFrankie Dettori--atodds with hiseffervescent public

persona--ensured Owner/breeder Anthony Oppenheimer with that Oppenheimer=s Golden Horn after the Dante Racing Post homebred washandled with restraint throughout the first half of the race, while Hans Holbein (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}) set a fierce gallop up front, presumably to test the headliner=s questionable stamina. Proper racehorses show their mettle when it mattersmost and when hunting down his stablemate JackHobbs in cold blood as the furlong-marker flashed by,Golden Horn demonstrated a resilience equal to thehuman line that has nurtured six generations of hisfamily at the Oppenheimers= farm just outsideNewmarket to deliver a good old-fashionedBritish-owned and -bred Derby triumph. Such a resultwas once the norm in Epsom=s Blue Riband, but is nowrarely witnessed. Runner-up Jack Hobbs (GB) was fully 3 1/2 lengthsbehind as the winner passed that >piece of wood=immortalized in Federico Tesio=s magnum opus on thebreeding of Thoroughbreds, but his performance wascredit-worthy nonetheless and gives trainer John Gosdenplenty of ammunition to fire at the remainder of thisseason=s middle-distance races in Europe and beyond.

Only two seasons ago, Dettori would have beenwearing Jack Hobbs=s royal blue Godolphin silks, whileWilliam Buick was first-call for any Gosden runner.Times change, people move on, and if Dettori harboredany regrets at his parting from Sheikh Mohammed=soperation, those feelings will be far from his mind thisweekend. AJohn [Gosden] and myself go back 20 years,@ saidthe 44-year-old jockey. AI was meant to ride [1997Derby winner] Benny The Dip, then I won it withAuthorized and finally we=ve done it together. John hasbeen very constructive in my career, as a friend andalmost a father-figure, but now I think we=re goodmates and I=m really enjoying my time with him.@ Anthony Oppenheimer, who succeeded his father, SirPhilip, at the helm of Hascombe & Valiant Studs andcelebrates his 78th birthday this coming Thursday, isalmost certainly enjoying his long-held association withGosden, too. Blinking away tears in the winner=s circle, he said,AThis was my dream, and it was my father=s dream, too, and I=m not getting any younger, so it=s wonderful, almost unbelievable, to have achieved it. We=ve beenbreeding for 50 years and I joined my father in the studabout 30 years ago. The closest we=ve come in theDerby was when we were fourth with Pelerin [in1980].@ Paying tribute to his team at the stud, which houses26 broodmares and also bred 10th-placed Moheet (Ire)(High Chaparral {Ire}) in the race, he added, ARoy Gedgeretired a few years ago but he was my stud groom andhe brought this horse into this world, so I must saymany thanks to him, and all my stud staff have been sobrilliant.@ Golden Horn, who was offered for sale at Tattersallsas a yearling but was unsold at 190,000ns, could soeasily have escaped the clutches of the Oppenheimerfold, as his dam has already done. Oppenheimerexplained, AI no longer have the mare. I sold herbecause she hadn=t won and sadly I have to move afew on from the stud, but I sold her to my friend HarryMcCalmont so I=m delighted for him.@ McCalmont, standing just yards from Oppenheimeramid the festivities at Epsom, was understandablyenjoying a fabulous update for the inmate at hisNorelands Stud, which was augmented by Friday=ssecond-place finish in the GII New York S. at Belmontof Golden Horn=s half-sister Eastern Belle (GB) (ChampsElysees {GB}). AIt=s been quite a few days,@ he said with a smile andconfirmed that the now-celebrated mare Fleche d=Or(Dubai Destination) has a yearling filly by Acclamation(GB) and is in foal to Shamardal. With breeding, as with racing, one certainty is that allinvolved learn to take the rough with the smooth. Anow-valuable young mare may have been lost, but ahomebred Derby winner delivers a dream chased bymany but realized by so few. Oppenheimer will certainlyrevel in this most golden of days, and rightly so.

the start of August. Not taking to first-time blinkerswhen ninth in the G3 Geoffrey Freer S. over anextended 13-furlong trip at Newbury later that month,Pether=s Moon went to Turkey to annex the G2International Bosphorus Cup in September beforereturning home to add Ascot=s G3 Cumberland Lodge S.to his tally under a stylish Pat Dobbs ride in October.Signing off with a seventh in the G1 Champion S. backin Berkshire, he returned this term to be second under afive-pound penalty to Arab Spring (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}),with Dobbs back on board, in Newbury=s G3 JohnPorter S. Apr. 18. Not conducive to the customaryRichard Hughes magic when running well below-parand finishing 18 lengths adrift in third in the latestedition of the G2 Jockey Club S. back at Newmarketlast time May 2, he was reunited with Dobbs onceagain as connections reached for the key to thistalented but quirky individual.

Settling into an easy rhythm at the tail of the quartetas Dolniya led at a far-from-searching pace underChristophe Soumillon, Pether=s Moon was able to easilykeep tabs on that rival and her French counterpart asthe screw was turned passing the quarter pole. WithFlintshire unable to raise his effort enough to seriouslytrouble his archrival, it was the Hannon horse whoemerged to squeeze between them in the last 50 yardsand assert before idling in his inimitable style. AHe hasloads of ability, but he pulls up when he gets there, andeven though he got there late I could feel him doing itagain,@ his jockey commented. AHe=s run some goodraces and handled the track. He goes on any, but lovesfast ground.@ Hannon added, AI didn=t see that coming,as his last run was very moderate, but he=s been aroundthe circuit and probably deserves a bit more credit thanhe gets. This was [owner] John [Manley]=s entry and hehas really enjoyed this horse. Pat=s given him a superride and he really goes for Dobbsie.@ Dolniya is set for atilt at Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) next, according totrainer Alain De Royer Dupre, who said, AWith fourrunners you have a tactical race and we had to go infront. The other horse had more turn of foot. I thinkDolniya=s next race will be the [June 28] G1 Grand Prixde Saint-Cloud.@

All eyes were on last year=s G1 Prix Jean-LucLagardere winner Full Mast, who was making his keenlyawaited return, and there was no disgrace as he justfailed to give seven pounds to an improving race-fitrival in Almanaar. That Shadwell representative hadbeen steadily progressive so far this term, finishingthird in the Listed Prix de Suresnes over nine furlongs atMaisons-Laffitte Apr. 17 before getting the better ofDelfmar (Spa) (Delfos {Ire}) in the Listed Prix dePontarme over this trip at Saint-Cloud May 18. Afterthe start had been delayed by that runner unshippingIoritz Mendizabal and running loose, Almanaar was keenanchored in third behind De Treville and Full Mast.Delivered wide of that pair inside the final quarter mile, the chestnut was mainly hand ridden to edge aheadmeters from the post and strip the Juddmontehomebred of his unbeaten record. Full Mast is beingpointed at the G1 Prix Jean Prat back over this trackand trip July 12, where he will not be faced by thewinner. AIt was nice to win this race again, as we didwith Anodin (Ire) (Anabaa) and Charm Spirit (Ire)(Invincible Spirit {Ire}), but this is a gelding so there willbe no Prix Jean Prat for him,@ trainer Freddy Head said.AHe=s a vastly improved horse and I=m sure that we=llfind other suitable group races for him.@

Billabong could rewrite history, becoming the firstMoroccan-bred to win a Group 1. He joined the yard ofPascal Bary at Chantilly last season. "His owner, Mr. ElAlami, sends to me each season one of his besthorses,@ Bary explained. ABillabong was a true championin his country, where all the races are on dirt, and I ranhim three times on the all-weather because I didn'twanted to change too much. He did well, winningonce, and he discovered the grass in March, finishingsecond in a listed race at Saint-Cloud, and scored in alisted race over 2400 meters at Longchamp. Billabongis a strong horse with a lot of stamina, and I think hewill relish the San Siro course.@ Italian racing fans will support Dylan Mouth (Ire)(Dylan Thomas {Ire}), the 2014 Italian Derby winner. The 4-year-old is unbeaten in Italy and his only defeatoccurred at Royal Ascot, when he had a wide trip in theG2 King Edward VII S. Back home in September he wonthe G2 Premio Federico Tesio--defeating the 2013Derby winner Biz The Nurse (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire})--andthe G1 Gran Premio Del Jockey Club. Cleo Fan (Ity) (Mujahid) had his glory day May 10 atCapannelle, when he snatched the G1 PremioPresidente Della Repubblica. She was not seen duringthe Australian spring and returned with no signs of rustwhen winning the G2 Victory S. at the Gold Coast Apr.25, but her next two starts proved the mostdisappointing of her career. She was eighth in the G1BTC Cup and sixth in the G1 Doomben 10,000, bothover this strip May 9 and 23. AI rode him at Sandown and hewasn=t the best away, which wasn=t a worry here as it=sa fast six,@ his rider said. William said he was the real deal today andI think we=ll stay at six now, as he has a tendency to bea little bit slow out of the stalls.@

Woodcote S. cont. Johnston continued, AI thought he was out of theordinary when he ran first time out, albeit it was only atChelmsford, but at that point I would have thought hewas my number one 2-year-old. Then he disappointedat Ascot and, while he bounced back at Newmarket,we had lowered our sights a little and were not toodisappointed to come second at Sandown. Today thehorse seemed much happier and William said he wouldhave no hesitation taking him to Royal Ascot. Thingshave moved on a lot since the start of the season, buthe=s obviously right up there among my best juveniles.@
