W elcome and thank you for worshipping with us! We pray that what you hear and experience
here today will speak directly to your heart and that you will feel at home.
Welcome to our visitors and guests! We feel blessed that you have chosen to join us. We would love to
get to know you. Please take a moment to fill out a welcome card and place it in either the collection bag
or the office mailbox. If you are a guest, please do not feel obligated to give during the offering; today
you are our guests. We hope to see you worshipping with us again! Hearing impaired? See one of our
ushers to receive a hearing assistance device during the worship service. Church Pamphlets are available
in front of the sanctuary providing you with more information about our church..
Joining the Church... After attending our services on a regular basis, we hope you are led to a deeper
relationship with this community—one that involves sharing in our covenant with God. Are you willing to
make that commitment? A decision to join any community of faith requires prayer, experience, and
discernment. We welcome everyone who is thinking about joining the church to meet with one of our
pastors in order to pray about and to explore this desire.

Offerings
Offerings during the worship service are for New West Church and local ministries as well as denomina-
tional ministries. There may be a designated special cause identified below. Please place your offerings
into the bag, using your current envelopes if you have them. There are also envelopes in the pew if you
are a guest or forgot yours at home. Cheques should be made out to the New Westminster CRC and
should indicate the ministry you are donating to. All donation dollars and loose change will be applied to
the following second collection:
Today’s Offering is for Faith in Action CRC. Our brothers and sisters in Christ who meet every
week in Vancouver for Worship. They want to be a self supporting congregation but are still requiring
our financial support at this time. Please prayerfully consider this congregation’s needs .
Next week’s Offering will be for missionaries Frank and Aria Sawyer. When Frank and Aria Sawyer
arrived in Hungary 20 years ago to teach at Sárospatak Reformed Theological Academy, Hungary, church
growth had halted during the country’s 40 years under Communist rule. The academy had closed, pastors
and church members were aging, and home Bible studies and outreach programs were forbidden. Whole
generations had grown up knowing little about Christ. Christian Reformed World Missions sent the Saw-
yers to Sárospatak to help train new church leaders and teachers. Over time, the academy began adding
programs. Many young people became pastors. Churches resumed outreach ministries. Seminary stu-
dents became involved in youth camps and music ministries.
Thank you for supporting New West Church and these various ministries.

The Persecuted Church: Vietnam: Pastor Y Wo Nie
arrested in 2004, has been
released from prison. He was given a 9-year
sentence in prison but was released early in 2011.
Pray that his health will recover after being in prison
for 7 years and will be able to continue serving his
Lord.
Iran: According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide
(CSW), Iranian authorities in Ahwaz, a southern
town in Iran, raided a church that was celebrating
Christmas, detaining everyone in the building —
including children who were in Sunday school.
Pastor Youcef is still in prison. Pray that he will be
released.
China: Shouwang Church is still prohibited from
worship services and police have detained several
believers in prison for several days. Pray that
freedom will be granted. Pastor Shien Hau, a house
church leader with about 2,000 members and the
deputy vice president of Chinese House Church
Alliance, was unexpectedly released from prison. He
had been sentenced for 2 years of re-education by
labor for holding illegal meetings. Praise the Lord.
Egypt: After the soccer riot, many people were
killed, the situation in Egypt is very tense. Pray for
the country.
There was some good news reported in the
Newsweek Magazine. They published an article
about the plight of persecuted Christians and
wonder why we haven’t given attention to those
who have suffered much and why the Christians are
not protected from the attacks. It’s worth reading
and I hope it will bring help for the Christians.

Mozart’s other students, Eybler and Freystadtler.

documentary Songs of Love and Sorrow: Re-
engaging the Social Ethics of Music on Friday,
March 2 at 7 PM at Fleetwood CRC, 9165—160
Street, Surrey. This documentary considers the
nature of music’s role in the public sphere. Can music
have a social impact? Should it? When does it cease
to be music and become propaganda? What is the
role of faith in socially engaged music? We will
consider these and other questions as we watch the
film together and discuss. The film portrays the work
of several contemporary composers who engage with
themes of social relevance and the interaction of
these composers with contemporary philosophers
and ethicists. The discussion will be introduced and
led by Dr. Rebekah Smick, Senior Member in
Philosophy of the Arts and Culture and ICS Junior
Member Rebecca Tait.
