SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER God Centered Worldview

God has a different priority and purpose than the world. We, as baptized Christians, live in God’s world. We are asked to live by His standards and “NOTW’. This does not come naturally. It is something we learn by incorpo-rating messages like those from these readings into our daily life choices. In the first message from Luke, Jesus announces that those who are poor, hungry, weeping and hated are blessed. The world’s view would be that they are not blessed and it is the people who are rich, full, happy and liked are those who have been blessed. To make sure we understand, he says the same thing in a negative way and declares the woes of the rich, full, happy and liked. Keep in mind when he speaks of the poor, he speaks of his poor disciples who gave up much to follow him. Will you be happy with the world’s riches or will you hold out for a greater treasure, namely, Jesus Christ?

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Beautitudes LK 6:17, 20-2

Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.

There is no joy like that known by the truly poor in spirit. St. Therese of Lisieux

Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.

Within me was a hunger of that inward food, Yourself, my God.

St. Augustine

Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.

The more you pray to God in times of sorrow, the sooner you will feel his sweet consolation. - St. Anthony of Optina

Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce

your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.

Everything is a reminder of the cross. We ourselves are made in the shape of a cross. - St. John Vianney

Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.

Walk with your feet on earth and your heart in Heaven. St. John Bosco

Klarissa Chichioco

Dear Parishioners, The third graders made a trip to the California Acade-my of Sciences Museum. They explored the rain

forest, aquarium, and saw a planetarium show all about the coral reefs. It was during that time students learned the science behind coral reef bleaching, ways to protect corral, and how to re-vamp ocean health. They were also informed about how coral helps protect land and people from dangerous storms. They had a group lunch out by the fountain and concluded with 40 minutes free explora-tion time. Students were drawn to the earthquake simulator and got to experience how the 1906 and 1989 felt.

Queen of Apostles School 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Christine Usis, vol-unteered a week of her time in January with the nonprofit, Jordan International Aid, to support schools and children in Cambodia. She was able to teach the children hand washing good hygiene, English skills, basic math, arts, and crafts; she shared stories and experiences, Welcome to DENIM & DIAMONDS, our annual Community Auc-tion/Dinner held in the Father Jim Mifsud Community Center on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 6:00pm - 11:00pm. Dress up in denim, diamonds, or both and join us for an evening of champagne, hors d'oeuvres, silent auction, dinner, an exciting live auction, and dancing. The proceeds will go to the school, to be used for Chrome-books, after school enrichment, and fencing around the school. Tick-ets are now on sale. Looking for Help to Make the Mass Sound Great

The new PA system can be controlled via a tablet which allows the micro-phones to be controlled in real time

by a technician. A microphone’s level can now be adjusted in real time to how loudly / softly a speaker is addressing the con-gregation, so they can be heard clearly. We are starting a new ministry with volunteers who have or have 14 or more birth-days for each mass to be trained on our system and n manage the PA system during mass. If you are interested or have ques-tions, please contact Dirk Maasen [email protected] or 408-213-6510.

Can’t wait for donuts on Sun-day? Be the first to get your choice of donuts by volunteer-ing for the Donut Ministry! It’s fun and you meet some really nice people. The kids

love it too. Call to help out and you will be rewarded! Call Larry and Margie Murchan at 408–203-7747.

We lovingly pray for those in our Parish and families who can-not join us at Mass especially: Marilyn English, Loraine Rau-chle, Mary Trumbull, Ron Andresen, Arlene Barraza, Joel Rive-ra, Barbara Mertzlufft, Antonia Luna, Janet Decker, Barbara Carrillo. Please let us also pray for all our servicemen and women who serve in the Armed Forces throughout the world and remember them in our hearts today and everyday. We re-member those dearly departed in our Queen of Apostles family and in our own families: especially: Dorothy Katherine McGuckin.

Peacemakers PEACE

Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ, founder of Homeboy Industries, inspires us with his work and his words:

“America has rarely seen more division, polarization and disunion than at this moment. And yet . . .our best values long for connection.”

But how do we connect? We use the strategy of Jesus. If we locate ourselves with those who have been excluded, our work becomes visi-ble. Only when those who want to make change can observe our con-nection with the marginalized, only then will they be moved to kin-ship. “Only when we can see a community where the outcast is valued, will we abandon the values that seek to exclude.”

As Fr. Greg speaks, we listen. He reminds us that there is no “us” and “them,” just “us.” He hopes we can create a community of kinship where we are all brothers and sisters. His homeboys and girls tell their stories, which are heartbreaking at the same time they are inspiring. When you hear the story of the young man who suffered years of abuse from his parents, who wore three t-shirts to school each day, only then can you understand the pain that young man felt and the courage it took to turn his life around. He did it with the support of Fr. Greg and those around him.

Fr. Greg’s message is one of love. He likes to quote St. Julian of Nor-wich, who saw the life struggle as “coming to discover that we are ‘clothed in God’s goodness.” Each person is good from the day of their birth. Fr. Greg’s quotes taken from his book, Tattoos on the Heart. His new book is Barking to the Choir. Brought to you by the Social Justice Committee (join us – we wel-come all comers.)

The Diamond Jubilee Needs Your Help

Were you around in the early years of our Parish? Do you know any of the early Parish families or how we may reach them? Can you help us make contact? Do you have memora-bilia, pictures, or video recordings of pastors, priests, parish-ioners or events we may reference, copy and/or share? (We’ll take good care of everyone’s treasures, we promise). Do you know someone who might? Have you researched our history before? Are you interested in helping us compile the infor-mation we gather? If you answered yes to any of these ques-tions, we need to speak with you. Please e-mail us at [email protected] and a committee member will contact you to discuss what you have, who you know and how you can help.

LIBRARY

Did you know that we have a Queen of Apostles library? It is located in the meeting room of the rectory and is open every day that the office is open except on Mondays. Please browse through and take home a book. There is an easy card system to use. We add new books every month so please take a look!

The Spiritual Formation Team (SFT) hope that you’ve read and enjoyed this year’s Christmas gift, “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Scott Hahn. Whether or not you read the book, please come join us on Sunday March 3 from 1:30 to 3:00 in the Community Center for a recorded talk that Scott Hahn gave to a parish audience on the same topic. The talk explores the same themes as the book, and explains how God’s covenantal love expressed in the Old Testament relates to the sacraments. The talk is about an hour and we’ll have a 30 minute discussion afterward for anyone who wants to stay. Please RSVP to [email protected] so if you are in this event so we know how many people to expect.. .
