Baking for Education

This is Courtney Cassidy, a sophomore in high school and a former student at OLV. I recently created a page on JustGiving.com titled Baking for Education. I created this page so I could sell my homemade desserts and donate the proceeds to the Mercy Education Project. The Mercy Education Project provides tutoring, educational summer camps, and literacy programs that prepare girls and women in Detroit for college and joining the workforce. I’m very grateful for my education at OLV and my current school, Cranbrook. My goal is to help

other girls in Detroit receive similar educational opportunities. Also, my friend Eliza Thayer who is a junior at Divine Child High School has been helping me with Baking for Education. Together we have been developing recipes, marketing, and packaging to ensure the success of our fundraiser. All this information and more is on my fundraising page on JustGiving.com. Place your order today! The menu and ordering instructions can be found at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bakingforeducation.

It is not too late to check out the weekly items found on the 52 Sundays’ website: 52sundays.com. Look for ideas on family fun and recipes this summer. Each week there is a special prayer and reflection on the Gospel.

You can have the weekly link emailed to you directly or visit www.olvnorthville.org homepage for a direct link to this week’s content.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 14: 13-21) Jesus says: “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves,” and taking the five loaves and two fish, he blest them and gave them to the disciples to feed the crowd.

Today we move all talk of God’s kingdom out of scripture and into our daily lives. We can’t make the kingdom present by ourselves. Jesus tells the disciples to “give them some food yourselves” but they can’t … human resources are not sufficient to make present

what God’s kingdom promises. Jesus then takes the meager human resources, “five loaves and two fish”, blesses them and has the disciples distribute to the crowds. What the disciples cannot do alone they can do with Jesus’ blessing. (Living Liturgy, p.208)

Election Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, You told us to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.  Enlighten the minds of our people in America.  May we choose a President of the United States, and other government officials, according to Your Divine Will.  Give our citizens the courage to choose leaders of our nation who respect the sanctity of unborn human life, the sanctity of marriage, the sanctity of marital relations, the sanctity of the family, and the sanctity of the aging.  Grant us the wisdom to give You, what belongs to You, our God.  If we do this, as a nation, we are confident You will give us an abundance of Your blessings through our elected leaders.  Amen.
