Electronic Giving ThroughFaith Direct

The Lord is risen! As Christ’s disciples, we are called to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection. Our parish’s many ministries are examples of how many of you answer that call. Our ministries require not only gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help. Please prayerfully consider supporting St. Joseph Marello with electronic donations through Faith Direct. You can sign up online by visiting www.faithdirect.net using our church code: CA748.

Thank you for your continued support of our parish family!

God Bless You,

This Weekend:Catholic Home Missions AppealSupport the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today! Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home missions because they are unable to fund essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support funds programs—such as religious education, seminary formation, and lay ministry training—to build vibrant faith communities right here in the United States. Please be generous. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/homemissions.

Reflecting on God’s Word

One central metaphor employed to describe the Christian life is a journey. In today’s second reading, Peter addresses the early Christian community: “Conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning” (1 Peter 1:17). When we think of a journey, we normally think of some kind of movement from point A to point B. The Christian journey, begun in the waters of baptism (point A) has as its ultimate destination eternal life with God in heaven (point B). Unfortunately we find ourselves on all kinds of detours along the way. Because of sin, we make foolish turns and sometimes seem unable to detect the presence of the Lord. Today’s story of the two disciples on their way to Emmaus illustrates for us the fact that, even when we are dejected or on one of our many detours, the Lord is there, walking right beside us.

Lighthouse CD of the Week:Facing Your Fears

Mark Hart uses Scripture and his experience of surviving an earthquake to share how we can master our fears. He also reveals how our fears will pursue us if we don’t meet them head on. Mark encourages us to not only face the proverbial giants in our lives but to slay them as David did Goliath, thereby finding freedom in Christ.

Leap of Faith:Navigating the Transition from High

School to College

Transitioning to college life can be an amazing, adventurous, yet scary experience for students and their families alike. The Diocese of Sacramento would like to journey with families as they take this LEAP OF FAITH. We invite graduating high school seniors and their families to a day of sharing from current college students, parents, and the greater community to discuss the transition from high school to college from a Catholic perspective. The event will be held on Saturday May 6 from 12:30pm-5:00pm at the Newman Catholic Center Sacramento, 5900 Newman Court, Sacramento, CA. There will be workshops specific to students, and parents, as well as a special Mass with Bishop Cotta to celebrate the graduation of the seniors. This event is FREE and includes lunch. Please visit the website collegeleap.eventbrite.com to register. For more information contact Cecilia Flores, [email protected] (915) 454-4188.
